It's a big and beautiful world out there. And we want to see it all! Everything we see, everywhere we go, we will take you along! Enjoy the ride!
We travel in our 1965 13' Scotsman trailer and explore as much as we can. We also own a 1958 38' park model New Moon trailer that we keep in the Anza Borrego desert. We have a love of all things vintage!
We have traveled the world together, and now it's time to see more of this big and beautiful country called America. We love to camp, hike, and especially lately, boon-dock!

TORREY PINES: RARE PINE TREES, RAZOR POINT & STUNNING CLIFFS!
Join David and Wendy as they hike to Razor Point in the Torrey Pines State Park Natural Reserve!
Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve is a coastal nature reserve located in San Diego, California. It encompasses over 2,000 acres of pristine coastal habitat, featuring rugged cliffs, scenic overlooks, rare plant species, and a diverse array of wildlife. The reserve is especially famous for its namesake tree, the Torrey Pine (*Pinus torreyana*), one of the rarest pine species in North America. Torrey Pines is a popular destination for hiking, birdwatching, and enjoying spectacular ocean views.
Key Features of Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve:
1. Torrey Pine Trees: These trees are unique to the coastal bluffs of San Diego and Santa Rosa Island in the Channel Islands. They thrive in the coastal environment of Torrey Pines Reserve.
2. Hiking Trails: There are several well-maintained trails for visitors, ranging from easy walks to more challenging hikes. Notable trails include:
- Razor Point Trail: A 1.4-mile trail that offers stunning views of the coastline and connects to the Beach Trail.
- Guy Fleming Trail: A short, 0.7-mile loop with great viewpoints of the ocean, cliffs, and coastal sage scrub.
- Beach Trail: A steeper trail that leads down to the sandy beach below the cliffs.
3. Cliffs and Views. Torrey Pines is perched above the Pacific Ocean, and the reserve provides some of the best coastal views in Southern California. The cliffs drop dramatically into the sea, offering panoramic vistas.
4. Wildlife: The reserve is home to a wide range of animal species, including various birds, small mammals, and marine life. Birdwatchers can often spot species like peregrine falcons, red-tailed hawks, and California quail.
5. Conservation: The reserve is a protected area, with efforts focused on preserving the rare Torrey pine tree and its surrounding ecosystem. There is a visitor center where you can learn more about the park’s natural history and conservation efforts.
6. Visitor Amenities: There are parking lots near the entrance, though they can fill up quickly, especially on weekends and holidays. The visitor center offers educational displays, and there are also picnic areas in designated spots.
Location:
Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve is located within the Torrey Pines State Park, just north of La Jolla and about 20 miles north of downtown San Diego. The reserve is easily accessible from the city by car, and it's a popular spot for both locals and tourists looking to experience Southern California's natural beauty.
Tips for Visiting:
Wear Comfortable Shoes: Some of the trails are steep, and the terrain can be uneven, so sturdy footwear is recommended.
Bring Water and Sunscreen: The trails can get quite hot, especially in the summer months, so it's important to stay hydrated and protect yourself from the sun.
Respect the Environment. As a protected area, it's essential to stay on marked trails, not disturb wildlife, and avoid picking plants or disturbing the Torrey pines.
Torrey Pines is a stunning place to visit, offering an opportunity to experience the beauty of Southern California's coastal landscapes and unique ecosystems.
