Islamic Perspective: The Qur'an denies the crucifixion, stating instead that Jesus was not killed, but raised alive to heaven, and he will return at the end of times. This peace signifies: The miraculous birth without a father, a symbol of Allah's power. His peaceful death when he returns and dies naturally after fulfilling his mission. His peaceful resurrection on the Day of Judgment, alongside the rest of humanity. Thus, when Jesus (PBUH) speaks of his birth, death, and being raised to life again, it refers to events spread across two different times: his first life, which included his miraculous birth, and his future return, death, and resurrection in the end times. This has no reference to the Christian understanding of death on the cross, as the Qur'an clearly refutes the idea of crucifixion. The term "Ruh Allah" (روح الله) is an Arabic phrase that translates to "Spirit of Allah" or "Spirit from Allah". It is used in the Qur'an specifically in reference to Prophet Isa (Jesus, PBUH). The phrase emphasizes the special creation and miraculous nature of Jesus' birth, as well as his closeness to Allah. However, it is important to understand that in Islamic theology, this phrase does not imply divinity or that Isa (Jesus, PBUH) is a part of God. Rather, it underscores that his soul (spirit) was created directly by Allah and that his birth was extraordinary. This term is mentioned in the Qur'an in Surah An-Nisa (4:171): "Christ Jesus, the son of Mary, was (no more than) a messenger of Allah and His word, which He bestowed on Mary, and a spirit from Him." (Qur'an 4:171) Here, "Ruh from Him (Allah)" indicates that Isa (Jesus) was given life by a direct command and will of Allah, without the intervention of a human father, much like the creation of Adam (PBUH) who was also created by the command of Allah. In the Qur'an, Prophet Isa (Jesus, PBUH) is the only prophet mentioned who was given the miraculous ability to give life to a figure made from clay, in the form of a bird, by Allah's permission. This miracle is described in Surah Al-Imran (3:49) and Surah Al-Ma'idah (5:110), where Allah granted Jesus several miraculous abilities, one of which was breathing life into a clay bird. Here is the verse from Surah Al-Imran (3:49): "And (make him) a messenger to the Children of Israel (who will say), 'Indeed I have come to you with a sign from your Lord, in that I design for you from clay that which is like the form of a bird, then I breathe into it, and it becomes a bird by permission of Allah. And I cure the blind and the leper, and I give life to the dead - by permission of Allah.'” (Qur'an 3:49) Similarly, in Surah Al-Ma'idah (5:110), Allah reminds Jesus of the miracles He enabled him to perform: "…You made from clay the form of a bird, by My permission; then you breathed into it, and it became a bird, by My permission."
