What no box what’s up with that
I happens they send it in a bag😂
We have that on our layout!
Goo luck getting those modules to your dining room.
Thanks, it's the only place I can Put them all up together. The wife understands
I used the AusTrak module standard. So long as the 6-8 inches at the edges are straight.and in the right places, what you do in the center can be any shape you like - crossing or passing loops, shunting yards, turnouts, crossings....whatever fits and looks okay.
Nice. I just saw a thing on that Mega Ore train you all have down there. That thing is crazy.
To detail old or used brick I make a masking template out of clear plastic sheet, like they use for windows. I exacto out individual random bricks and paint them different colors, moving the template around in a random fashion. You can wipe it off between coats and flip it over for a more random effect. Also before starting my painting, I wipe white into the mortar crack between bricks with a red brick layer wiped or rolled on the surface of the brick. The stencil can be used to apply off-color red, gray, or black onto individual bricks giving you a great used brick look. BTW, a great roof painting tip is to use a toothbrush spray to add spots onto your roof (think bird poop and such). Practice with a stiff toothbrush for a good spray technique using small quantities of lighter paint like gray or off white.
thanks Ill be adding more detail and details as time goes on
You want the cracks in the boards to make the boards pop out. Use a thinner dark wash over all of the boards and wipe the darker color into the cracks. The thinner wash will smear the top layers and blend dark and light streaks giving a wood look. Alternate dry brush tones with occasional swerls for knots and texture. Be sure to not fill the darker board cracks. You can use thinner and color on a Q tip to add details or clean up the darker cracks.
I'm trying to use washes more if I can.
Put down 2 strips of tape with the roofing strips between, then use a rubber roller to apply the glue to the roof strips. Quick, easy, and repeatable.
That sounds like a good idea!
Those are nice looking
They are and for the price I should have gone back for more
How much were they per car
@@NYandAtlantic 14 bucks at Trainworld
If it was so magnificent why is it not here. Lol kidding of course
I can only do so much.LOL
Nice looking cars.
@@jimorlando5700 they looked great on the layout at the show
When I started using these, someone suggested I use forstner bits instead of the spade bits.
@paulbender4697 that might make a cleaner hole but I don't want to know how much metric Forster bit cost.
@@JackOnTracksi actually just bought a set of English forstner bits off amazon.
Where did you go to get those prices
Ace and Home Depot. I thought people were pulling my leg when they told what they paid
That’s crazy I got my 2 pieces free
346 but who’s counting 😂!
Yeah some videos are a couple of week behind . lol
which geared motor are you using, thats also a future project of mine to do, I have one that I'm going to repaint. and get dcc sound into
I have two different ones I'll see which one fits better when I start build.
Did you have to add a resistor for the head light?
No, I didn't change out the factory bulbs and all I did was an 8 pin plug in sound decoder.
@ Thanks! I’ve been told that you have to add a resistor or the bulb will burn out.
@@jimorlando5700 you do with some of the bulbs and defiantly with LEDs. I order my Leds with resisters included
@@JackOnTracks Thanks, the two I’m working on are both Bachmann Spectrum from the 90’s or early 2000’s. One is the Doodlebug and the other is the 2-8-0 Consolidation.
Did you add resistors to the lights? What kind do you use? Thanks!
@jimorlando5700 I honestly don't know what resistor I added cause they were the ones that came with the LEDs.
@@JackOnTracks What kind of LEDs are you using? Thanks!
@@jimorlando5700 Hey I just re watched the video and it looks like I didn't change out to LEDs yet but I'll be use 3mm warm white that I got off Amazon here's a link. a.co/d/co80ic3
What is the red thing called that you used to put the locomotive on the track?
That trailer to help get your trains on the track easily
@ Can you tell me where I can get one? Thanks!
Bachmann makes one that is a little different which I bought on Amazon. I have no clue where or when I got this one.
2.47 inches is the standard because an Atlas 5 inch straight is supposed to be the standard connecting track. Anybody who has put together an N-Trak layout knows how well the standard works 😸
@DavidAMcC that's why I left it a tad long
Great update! Your benchwork/woodworking skills are incredible!
THANK YOU Glad you're enjoying them. I do the best I can with my 50yr old table saw and 25yr chop saw.
Very nice! I have the Athearn RI rotary snow plow. I got the pre-built version. I also recently acquired a new MOW Jordan Spreader (the completed one with all the moving parts, it is sweet!) Slowly building my MOW fleet. Enjoying your channel!
@MRR_Shadowolf i have to rotary snow blows to build this one and a Nscale Tichy Trains i want to power both with lights and a decoder.
What kind of LEDs are you using?
I got them off Amazon I really like the way they look I did a Blue Box SW7 and they really throw the light like a real train. Here's a link for them a.co/d/bL22aWF
nice work I am leaning more towards making speed-mo modules. They use alignment dowels 1” od tubing between modules. For legs, they use fold up legs and no levelers at all. The assembly is a torsion box and ends up weighing less. No pc board ties and filler rails as they put all rails right to the end of the module as well. They took ideas from sipping and switching of NC.
I'm just learning of Speed-mo. I have to weight these modules to see what they weigh in at.
I am excited to see Long Island modules. I saw another person is modeling it when I went to Syracuse
I am thinking about doing pine lawn
Where you from? Did you check out the Long Island Free-mo group on Facebook?
@@JackOnTracks I used to live on Long Island and belonged to HOtrack I live in Pennsylvania now and still visit the island whenever I get a chance. I will join the group. Thanks
Interesting, read through the Free-mo standards; don't think that is for me but understand the need for traveling club layouts. Nice woodworking skills!
Thank you. These will work their way into my layout in some way the next build will be an industrial switch layout and maybe these will be the receivers from those industries. Stay tune
The WalthersProto SW9/1200 and WalthersMainline NW2 and SW7 share very little with the Life Like Proto2000 era SW9/1200 model. The chassis was redesigned for sound, LEDs, a DCC plug, and the standard 14:1 helical geared trucks.
That's good to know. I might revisit this engine and consider upgrading it with sound.
You had a lot of shit in the basement
Yeah, I'm still cleaning up. Hope the wall looks better. The new layout room still has some stuff to go out but you all will see that area in a up coming video.
Looking forward to following the series!
@schadowolf Thank you it should hopefully be very informative
This will be great to see when you complete the 3 sections
@NYandAtlantic it going to be 12ft long when all three models are done.
I use the roll of cork from Michael’s
@NYandAtlantic i have a roll i just hope it's long enough.

Thanks it takes a lot to get the channel running as you know so just cleaning up and getting the house ready for sale. I'll be back with a free-mo build series in a week or two.
I’m hoping to install a Digitrax sound decoder in my Doodlebug. I’m hoping it will fit but I’m worried about everything you had to do with your Doodlebug.
Well, if you do a sound decoder, you'll need to remover the mother board and may need to use a N Scale decoder
@@JackOnTracks I plan to install a Digitrax SDN147PS N Scale decoder. I hope it will fit.
@@jimorlando5700 I've been thinking of doing it with a SoundTraxx Nscale sound decoder.
Did you use screws to secure the circuit board to the top of the motor or did you just use the tape?
If there was a screw, I would have added it back, but I think it is just taped in place
@@JackOnTracks That’s interesting. The is a flimsy plastic bracket that clips onto the top of the motor and the circuit board is secured to the bracket with a screw. Taping the circuit board may be a better solution.
I’m repairing my Doodlebug and I broke a couple of wires. Any chance you can tell me where the motor wires attach to the circuit board and the gauge of the wire? Also the gauge of the wire that runs to the rear truck? Thanks!
I can't tell you what wire came on the unit, but I used 30 gage stranded wire when I install decoders. it looks like the wire attached to the board on two pads
Awesome job module looking good
Thank You. Finally on the home stretch.
Hope you baked it first
Yes, I did 250° for 4hr then 350° then broke it up.
Nice update on the module and ballast looking good!
Thank you it always feels closer to completion when the ballast is done and it really transforms the scene.
OMG, I have used this same music in my videos many times… love it. Fun watching the clean up progress. 😊
It all starts some where. Lol
Nice update, looking forward to final episodes.
I'm looking forward to them too. Even though this series is nothing like the HoTraks build in length it stats to feel like it's been going on for ever.
Excellent work
@@NYandAtlantic thank you
What size of drill bit did you use to ream out the holes? When changing couplers on my Red Caboose boxcar I broke one of the air hoses. Those little buggers are hard to reattach. You said in the previous video the name of a company that makes good air hoses. What was the company? I think I need to use more flexible ones. I use the hell out of my 2-56 drill and tap set. Not only for truck screws but for the screw that holds the draft box on with the Kadee coupler. Every modeler needs different length of 2-56 screws, 1/4", 3/8" & 5/16". Cheers from eastern TN
I have a couple of these and another brand. exactrail.com/products/ho-scale-air-hoses-draft-box-mounted Exactrail was bought out by Scale Train's not sure if they are going to make this line of products again
I just acquired my first Red Caboose HO scale boxcar. It was already built so all I had to do was weather it. I've got two kits on the way, a McKean boxcar and a Silver Streak boxcar, all in the Central of Georgia Railroad. I used to live in Jonesboro, GA, so I model the Central of Georgia. I've found that Red Caboose, McKean and Silver Streak are as detailed as a Kadee piece of rolling stock (I have 2 Kadee boxcars) & the only difference is that Kadee boxcars have coupler cut levers which are easy to add to any model. I've already built 3 Tichy Train Group models, 2 ore cars, a 40' 50 ton flatcar and a 40' 50 ton wooden side gondola. Since I model the early 1900's it's hard to find RTR models with K-brakes. I just about have to build all my rolling stock from kits. And you are correct, you might as well get a set of wire bits to use in modeling. I just received my set of #61 - #83 wire bits. You are correct again, always install the stirrups LAST! I didn't do that on a Tichy model and ended up breaking off every stirrup when I went to install the grab irons. Live & learn. Cheers from an ex-Georgian in eastern TN
thank you! It all live and learn so I try to pass on what little Knowledge I have to hopefully help other. I have a few Tichy's to build and a ton of Bowser
That is a stroke of genius! Very impressive. Who makes the interior kit?
thank you! I scratch built the interior some of the details were bought from some 3D printshops on Ebay.
Looks great, like how you laid the bldgs out. I now plan on doing same for my tractor supply and feed store/mill.
You can do it!
Haven't commented on your videos to date but binge watched after subbing on your kit bashing projects and other videos that I was interested in. I appreciate your 'good, bad, ugly' takes on various aspects. Enlightening and lots of knowledge/wisdom/growing pains (trying new techniques) throughout the videos. I took a lot of notes for my use as I start delving into putting structures together, etc. Like you, I have no desire to learn to paint figurines. What source did you use (website, email, eBay name, etc) Like the guy sitting at the desk in this video. You complimented them so want to give them a try. Thanks and look forward to future videos from you.
Thank you for your Kind words. I figured there was enough guys on here that show you how great they layout and builds turned out, but you never see the mistakes or the technique that did not work or why. So, I show as much as I can to hopefully help everyone not make those mistakes or give them to confidence to try something new. I've bought a few thing along with the desk from Model Railroad Details Galore on Ebay.
@@JackOnTracks Got the source, plan on using them, some nice things on there! Thanks
