Less crops growing: Adapting to climate change at the homestead
มุมมอง 13914 วันที่ผ่านมา
Hey everyone! Today, I want to share how climate change is impacting my crops here at the homestead. Over the past few seasons, I’ve noticed shifts in growing patterns-some crops are thriving earlier, while others are struggling with unexpected heat or pests. This year, I’ve had to adapt by experimenting with new varieties that are more resilient to changing conditions. It's a constant learning...

Informative! What do you do for the chickens when you are away for 2 or more days?
@@sunnyday1639 So there is always somebody home as we have so much animals. My sister in law takes care of them when I am away and the other way round.
@@sunnyday1639 what you could do is get a huge pellet feeder like 2 and full up. Then make sure you have enough water feeders around
Oh, I see. Thanks!
Hi my chickens use a large feeder and waterer, they can go up to about 4/5 days on food. And about 2 weeks on the water. But I like to change it more frequently because it’s probably better for them. The only issue is, sometimes I feel like I don’t hang out with them as much, because I know they have food and water. And I’m sure the girls like seeing me and hanging out. So I try to say hi at least once per day for a few minutes… the longer you can the better. ❤ they have feelings too!
It's nice when even small fruit retains its flavor.
Your melon needs a table. It looks great though.❤
How i wish i could have those fruiting trees in pots. I have small space
@@leonortictic3339 but you can grow fruit trees in pots. This is what the video is about, growing in pots. In small spaces.
Good harvest! Nice size figs.
Pretty fig tree.
Nice, healthy looking cucumber plant.
Nice garden project. Word of knowledge black pots and containers heat up!! It's called Root warming and root Scortch, wrap with burlap or paint with white paint.
@@TeddyLutz-u8j thank you so much for the advise, will definitely attend to that
Hi.did u plant it from seed or grafted tree????
Bought it, grafted tree
Nice!
Did yours take some time to start? ours were super slow to start and then BAM suddenly have taken off
@@icewolfmaiden yes, super slow to germination, to grow and then all of a sudden nearly at the end of Jan it took off. Some of my peppers and chilli plants are still not growing but I will be resetting the garden to pot into the garden, fertilizing and see if anything happens
You have a good variety of plants in your garden, which increases your chances of getting a harvest even when some plants do not do well. Maybe there is a pollution problem with the zucchini. Have you tried hand pollinating them? Maybe experiment with an awning over one or two raised beds to control how much rain they get. 😊
@@sunnyday1639 it has been raining for over a month non stop, less insects around.
Hope the rain stops soon.
Still amazing Work friend
@@dorseygreen7912 ah thanks so much
Do you make your turmeric drink from turmeric powder?
@@sunnyday1639 yes, I put 1 TSP of tumeric powder in water
Thanks!
Nice!

Can you make a video on how you care for your pomegranates? For example what fertilizer you use and how to prune it
@@MaiteStegall would be a pleasure to do that. I get to harvest the pomegranate end of Feb so keep and eye out on that video and I will explain how to fertilize and how to care for it
Wow, what a beautiful harvest! It all looks delicious.
Good use of the space in the raised beds. The green mesh shade cloth definitely looks better than the black one.
@@sunnyday1639 thanks a million
Beautiful garden. Your trees are doing amazing in pots. Great inspiration 👏
@@containergardeningRSA thank you so much🙏🏻❤️
Nice garden design! I love growing cherry tomatoes. They produce so abundantly. Things change so quickly in the garden. It is exciting to walk around and see the changes. How often do you fertilize your figs, and what do you feed them?
@@sunnyday1639 I give them pellet fertilizer before they wake up from winter then every 4 weeks give them a good liquid fertilizer.
Oh, I see. Thanks!
Lovely❤

Nice! I use rice vinegar to pickle cucumbers. They last in the refrigerator for a while.
@@sunnyday1639 I must try rice vinegar. I use apple cider or white vinegar
Yes, I like it. The original rice vinegar has a mild and slightly sweet taste. Apple cider vinegar has a stronger taste, but I like that flavor too.
Happy new year and the garden homestead looks amazing!! So much growth and Health ! Amazing work my friend
@@dorseygreen7912 thanks my friend ❤️
Wow nice fruit trees, what i have only is the pomegranates.
Gardening is definitely a learning experience. The successes and failures help us to be better gardeners. Your plum tree looks awesome! Hopefully, your cherry tree will eventually be productive. Otherwise you can maybe try a different variety. Those are some huge kale plants. What variety are they?
Congratulations on all your victories!! This year was hard for me we had lots extreme weather …. The dry weather was really bad and the spidermites went crazy and took over my garden 😢 I fought…. Still fighting….. but now we are having many torrential rains the plant don’t do well in this… lots of fungal growths… As for the beans I had a hard time this year too as the spider mites loves this plant. ALL THE BEST IN THE NEXT YEAR!❤❤
Happy New Year from this 70 year old from Australia and about to start a veg area at new house I finally have a yard I use a walker but will try
What fertilizer do u use? 🙂
@@socloseagain4298 depends on what fruits or veggies. I use 3 different fertilizers. First one is All purpose organic pellets fertilizer or the bio ocean seaweed pellet fertilizer. We also do our own liquid fertilizer from our red wriggler worm farm and make comfrey liquid fertilizer and sometime banana liquid fertilizer. The sky is the limit. Depends what you need it for.
@@Smallurbangreens Nice thanks 🙂
Pickled cucumbers are so delicious!
Always nice to see plants developing! They seem to grow twice as much after it rains.
Will you keep the trees in the pots or transplant in the ground?
@@357_gardening keep them in the pots

Great job maintaining your homestead! Do you turn your compost pile or try to keep it at a certain temperature?
@@sunnyday1639 We turn it once a month only. We have never monitored the temperature to be honest, something we should do but we just leave there for nature to do its thing and it seems to be working great
That is good to hear. I had a compost pile a while ago but did not keep up with monitoring the temperature. I will use your method with the one I started this year. It is easier to keep up. Thanks!
@sunnyday1639 wow that's amazing to hear! Keep up the great work and thanks for following
