Hummingbird Watch 2018 - The Little Creatures Series
This is the first video installment of what I'm calling, The Little Creatures Series.
Every summer, hummingbirds stop by to visit the feeders around the house.
This video is made of two short clips taken before and during a thunderstorm.
I used my Canon 7D with a Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM lens.
Audio was recorded using the Rode RodeLink FM Wireless Filmmaker System,
I hope you enjoy the video.

How much feed does a chicken eat?
มุมมอง 6286 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I talk about several things to consider when thinking about how much a chicken eats. There is more to consider than just how much my chicken will eat. I'll go over some of those things in this video.

Galaxy DX 959 CB Radio in a 2004 Chevy Aveo
มุมมอง 9K7 ปีที่แล้ว
If you are thinking about putting a CB radio in a compact car then look at how my installation went. I hardwired a Galaxy DX-959 CB radio into a 2004 Chevy Aveo. The radio was installed about 5 years ago in the Aveo and is still going strong. I had it in a Freightliner Semi for several years before that when I was driving a truck on a cross-country route. This is a great CB and the Astatic mic ...
MF165 Independent PTO Clutch and Hydraulic Assembly

In this video I install the independent PTO clutch brake parts for my MF165 tractor. Then I place the PTO clutch drum and hydraulic assembly together and insert steel roll pins into the clutch drum to prevent the brake disc from slipping over the edge of the drum. The pins were not original to this tractor but a service bulletin from Massey Ferguson included this update on later models. This tr...

    I love my doms. My mother always had them. She said they are the best layers, mommas, healthy and good eating. I am so glad they started to become popular again. My rooster is very protective of the hens.

    Dominiques are cool I’ve had 2 lost 1 to the dog just bought 3 more I think 1 is a roo. Mine lay small eggs compared to my leghorns and they stopped laying in winter whereas the leghorns laid year round but their personality makes up for production drop off.

    Couldn't help but notice how well your Dominique blends in among the grass, trees and brush !(4:00 minutes into the video) I'm guessing you don't have many taken by the predators either when they're free ranging ! I've heard they're predator savvy too!

    UPDATE: Since this video was made I have sold this car. I did keep the Galaxy 959 CB radio and it is still going strong as a base station. The buyer wanted it as well, but I had to say no. I did let the antenna and all associated wiring go with the car. I'm now driving a Lincoln Town Car and have installed a ham radio and a GMRS radio in it. I may put up a video of the Town Car radio installs, but when TH-cam demonetized my channel I lost interest in putting up more content. I've recently been thinking about that and may start to put up content on TH-cam and Bitchute simultaneously.

    The Fredrick antenna are junk the best antenna to use is a Wilson 5000 antenna they work really well

    • @thesawmillsage7797
      @thesawmillsage7797 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've never heard of a Fredrick antenna, but I do use a Firestick antenna. I'm wondering if your auto-correct did that. Anyway, I think the Wilson 5000 antenna is very good, but nothing beats the 1/4 wave 102" whip antenna. Just add a 6" spring to make it a full 108". The only problem with that is the antenna's height on a vehicle which is why many people choose to compromise with an antenna like the Wilson.

    They have great audio, because they are probably running amps or high power radios. I have a Galaxy 93T . Love it and I use a Firestick Firefly antenna that is 4' on my SUV. It gets out pretty good as the 93T has a bit extra in power.

    Nice radio brother. Ive had Cobras and get bored with them really quickly. Ran a Styker 440 radio which I LOVED. Had to sell it several years ago during hard times. Ive never had a Galaxy though. I love the look of them...old school with a big meter. I just got a little 225w amplifier from a friend and considering buying a Galaxy 959 to use it with.

      In January of this year (2018) I got my general class ham radio license. I said I'd never get it, but there were several deaths this past year of the serious CB radio operators in my area so CB radio practically died where I'm located. I still love the CB, but don't have anyone much to talk to except when I drive into town. For home based operations I now use the 2m and 70cm ham bands. They are just as fun and the range is fantastic. I've quickly fallen in love with the 70cm band as I have found there are quite a few folks in the area that use it along with the county schools. Get a cheap Baofang Handheld 2m/70cm radio for $25 and listen for what's going on in your area. If there is a lot of activity get a ham license if you don't already have one. As far as the Galaxy 959 goes, you'll be extremely pleased with it if you decide to get one. The audio on both transmit and receive can't be beat. I've never had any failure of the radio at all. Even in the harsh conditions I put it through when I drove a truck cross country for a few years. Now, you'll hear a lot of people bash the Galaxy radios because they say they drift on SSB, but that's only until it warms up. After about 10 minutes of operation the radio is as stable as any of my dads or my brothers cobras. Anyway, thanks for the comment.

      Hey sawmill I just saw your channel, I realize these videos are a couple years old. That being said I have been very interested in getting my ham license and kind of wondering what radio to run in my pick up, now that I retired from trucking. What could I use has far as a ham radio/cb in there. Got any suggestions?

    Hi!! We are looking for the PTO Clutch complete and repair kit, kindly ask if you can tell us where we can buy the same please. Regards

    • @thesawmillsage7797
      @thesawmillsage7797 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dennis and thanks for the question. In order to get all of the parts I needed to rebuild my PTO clutch I ended up having to take the serial number of my tractor into a Massey Ferguson dealer and have the parts department look up the individual parts that way. They have a list of everything you’ll need. Some aftermarket kits that claim to be complete just aren’t and they are of questionable quality. My dealer told me that a complete clutch assembly was no longer available, which is why I had to order the individual parts. The total cost to rebuild my PTO clutch was around $1200.00 US as of early 2017. It cost that much because I had to replace part of the clutch drum and the control valve assembly. You may not have to replace those parts so your cost could be much less. That price does not include the hydraulic pump which I also had to replace. The pump was $800. Unfortunately, due to the age of these tractors the parts are becoming more and more scarce as time goes on. My tractor was made in March 1968. The dealer can tell you that information if you give them the serial number which is located under the battery access door on a metal plate just in front of the shift levers. This repair set me back quite a bit, but I haven’t had any problems since this repair was made. It took me and a friend nearly 4 days to complete this repair. The most difficult part for us was putting the two halves of the tractor back together because we couldn’t get them to line up right. One more word of advice. If your tractor has multi-power there is a short hydraulic hose that connects between the two halves of the tractor. It supplies pressure to the multi-power clutch. I was going to reuse mine because it looked like new. When we were putting the two halves back together that hose ripped in half. It was dry rotted. We had to take it out and have a hose made. It's a lot of trouble getting to this hose, so just go ahead and replace it while you have the tractor torn apart. If you don't want to order from a dealer, go in and get a list of all the parts you'll need and get a printout of the part numbers. Take those part numbers and look them up online and order them that way. I did this at first thinking I would get better pricing, but my local MF dealer ended up being less because they didn't charge me shipping. I wish you luck on your repair and if you have any other questions please feel free to ask.

      Questions, are the dominique similar to the barred rock in egg production, and which is the heavier?

    • @thesawmillsage7797
      @thesawmillsage7797 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Miguel Santos - I would say the barred rock and dominique are very similar in size and egg production. I currently have 9 dominique hens and I'm getting 6 eggs a day and it's 14 degrees outside right now. The barred rocks I had several years ago did about the same. The advantage I'm seeing in the dominique hens and roosters is their ability to withstand the cold weather somewhat better. With barred rocks I would need to put vaseline on their combs in this cold weather. The dominiques have a rose comb and have not shown any sign of frost bite. Thanks for the question.

      The Sawmill Sage Thank you, I was planning to either get 15 rocks or 15 dominique this coming spring, and were I lives it tends to to get in the near one digits at night. It seems that the dominique are the ones who can handle the job, once again, thank you.

    Thank you for the answer it was great. I already had ducks so the predator problem has been quite a reality for us. I had the chickens at my friends originally since they already had some of their own but it didn't work out so that's how they ended up at my house. Do you think feeding them half Multi flock crumble and half Layer pellets with some oyster shells would work or would you know since I don't see anything but chickens in your yard. I do put out egg shells for them which my laying duck can't get enough of and some scraps. They are in a 20 X 15 run, not including the 10 X 8 coop but it's open so the rocks tend to jump it. It's more to keep the ducks and geese out of the woods during the hyper nation prep season, they usually free roam. I know you say to buy from a feed mill but I have no idea where to find one. I live in Maine I'm more likely to find a lumber mill then a feed mill. I've even considered growing my own grains and things to make feed but I have an invasive plant problem that needs dealing with first. Any tips on what to do in the mean time would be great. Thanks again it was really informative

    How much feed do they eat about in a day? My friends got me 3 Barred Rock hens and one Rhode Island Red hen for layers and then a bunch of Leghorns for meat and then I ended up acquiring a Dominique rooster. By far he is my favorite out of all of them. Was thinking about getting a bunch of hens to go with him in the spring but would like to know what I am getting into.
