Chan Aktun Ha 1 The Surface
Chan Aktun Ha (AKA Regina's Backdoor) 4/24/24.
Cenote has very green (poor visibility) until you start into the cavern. There are some somewhat smaller squeezes getting in to the cavern area and a good place to drop your oxygen. The cave has some ups and downs.
We followed the main line beyond jumps placed by the team in front of us. We took a left at the first T and a right at the second T and immediately jumped to the deep section jump. We swam in the deep section for a bit before turning the dive.
On our way out we went the other way at one of the T's until we say the feint glow of another cenote and turned the dive.
As per usual, these videos are unedited. Videos are grouped by dive. They are named for the dive site then numbered in the order they were filmed followed by a brief description. Videos are also listed under playlist. Playlists are organized by dive site.

      Honestly, no I was not worried. The vis was far from zero. Frankly we are trained to deal with zero visibility during our certification class and I have seen much worse vis than this over the past 26 years. Even true zero vis is quite workable if the passage is large enough to get through but not so large you are bouncing up and down. Frankly, only very small passage really go to zero. True zero vis and a broken line can be booger, but we have training and equipment for that also. After training it is good to progress your dives slowly and make sure you are not exceeding your comfort limit. We all have a limit though.

    Ok, sooo, I'm new here & am very interested in VIDEOS of this nature. I don't think I'd have the courage to actually do so,however I digress, I felt a bit lost while watching. I saw the title but, a little more information during the videos, even if it's like CC's, for newbies, such as myself would be more informative and may even increase viewership. Anywho, I have subscribed and I'm now about to watch previous videos. This short video may not have been a great choice to uhhhh "bust my cherry" per sé 😉 but it was in my feed so I gave it a try 🤷🏾‍♀️ Thanks for showing cave diving that doesn't end in tragedy. I don't think I can take many more of those 🤦🏾‍♀️

      @cavediver74 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      LOL, none of my videos end in tragedy. But then I am not a monetized channel looking to lure people with click bait. Just a long time cave diver who started putting videos on TH-cam for my self and buddies. Sadly, if you are not a cave diver these unedited videos might not be the best. Each dive I do is actually a series of videos. The videos for a dive are named after the dive site, then are given a sequential number followed by a brief description in the title. I do try to place something of a description of what the overall dive was in the “description”. Without a knowledge of cave diving and a specific cave or access to a map of that cave (most maps are not publicly available I can see where following along can be difficult. There are people who edit and narrate videos etc. Mine are strictly unedited which has an advantage if you want to really see what is happening but can be a disadvantage also. If you search google for “cave atlas twin cave” and proceed to the resources tab of the Cave Atlas page there is a PDF map of this cave that is half way decent. That might help with references to tell where we are but references like “back to back arrows” that I make in titles would really only have meaning to a cave diver that knows this cave. Cheers!

    What camera and lights do you use?

    • @cavediver74
      @cavediver74 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I have a GoPro 10, 11, and 12 with dive housing. On this dive the GoPro was attached near the nose of the DPV. I was using a pair of 3500 lumen Seacraft lights running off the DPV’s battery with diffusers over them. If I am swimming and shooting video I generally use my Underwater Light Dude light with a diffuser over it or a BigBlue video light that I have. The UWLD puts out up to 3500 lumens for 5 hours on a large pack. The BigBlue is brighter but not microprocessor controlled and after 40 min or so is at half brightness and pretty much useless at about 60 minutes unlike the UWLD and Seacraft DPV lights that put out constant lumens until battery reaches a critical point.

    • @BlakePierantoni

      @@cavediver74 Nice! I use the GoPro for filming my cave dives too. Always wondered how your footage turns out so good. I have some cheap video lights. May look into getting a defuser for my EX35.

    • @cavediver74
      @cavediver74 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@BlakePierantoniJust FYI. For the first several years I was shooting video I used pieces of shower curtain I had cut out in round pieces held over the end of various lights with pieces of inner tube I had cut. I have not owned a DiveRite light in several years but found out the large diffuser they sell fit perfectly over my Underwater Light Dude Primary. I rigged it with bungee and can flip it up or down to use it as a video light or as a primary. When I got my Seacraft DPV with built in power controller a year ago and got the Seacraft DPV lights that they sell and connect to the power controlled a bought a pair of DiveRite’s smaller diffuses. They are actually a bit larger than the Seacraft lights but they work fairly well also held on by bungee. I can flip them up to get 12 degree light (what they are without diffuser - don’t ask me why they chose 12 degrees) or flip the diffusers down and get some very nice video light. The diffusers (even shower curtain) really seems to help to soften the light but also tends to give you a much wider angle of dispersion for the light. I you have the $ you can get dedicated video lights. My BigBlue video light was about $750 and frankly although I like it, I would not buy it again because of the fact that the light starts of bright but just gets dimmer and dimmer over time. Cheers and good luck!

      I encourage you to. I will say, it is quite a bit of certifications etc. However, once you get scuba certified (open circuit or CCR) then a cavern class (the part of cave where ambient light even a very small amount is still visible) can give you a feel for whether you want to go further with certification. The cavern class is actually pretty useful in terms of general scuba skills as well as wreck diving skills as well so not a waste if it isn’t for you.

    Nothing unintended. We call it a “1.6 check.” We want to make sure our cells are not wearing out. After confirming our O2 and diluent pO2 on the surface we go down just beyond 20ft and purge the gas from our loop 3-4 times filling with pure oxygen each time. Once all cells hit 1.6 you have to purge and replace with dil a couple of times to get the PO2 down again. We only want it above 1.6 fir a few seconds.

      I am using a rebreather. It is going to the mouthpiece moving in my mouth a little and my teeth making a squeaking sounds against the mouthpiece. If you move your head around the inhalation hose and exhalation hose pull on the mouthpiece some. If I really look hard one direction or the other I reach up with one hand and hold the mouthpiece in so it doesn’t come out. I am in the habit of not biting down on the mouthpiece, but just letting my lips make a seal around it. Less jaw fatigue that way.

    I’m just sitting here comfortably in my home; SUPER IMPRESSED by the control of breath-work by this diver. Wow. 🤯

      Thanks! I do not know if you dive or not, but I was on a rebreather - not open circuit scuba. We are supposed to just breathe and use our BC to control buoyancy rather than our lungs. I also had drysuit and the loop volume to keep up with. Not easy at first but with experience much easier over time.

    1:15 the light turned blue until 1:45 reveals a huge chamber. Who would have know there's this large space underneath the forest. Fascinating stuff.

      TH-cam directed you to an older one. I was on open circuit then. I have been diving a rebreather for nearly 11 months now. Enjoy! Videos are organized by dive and playlists are organized by location.

      Thank you! I intend to. I released 18 videos for this dive. I have videos for 7 other dives recorded but they need to be named and uploaded. I will likely get videos for 2 more dives within about 10 days. I will try for weekly releases of a group of videos related to a specific dive in general over the next couple of months.

      @@ivoryjohnson4662I have popped several lift bags in the ocean from the 100 got 150ft range back in my ocean trimix diving days. I am talking actually lift bags with an open bottom and not closed with OPV. Making sure your arm/wrist is not wrapped before inflating is important. If it is a regular lift bag (open bottom) we always said it was important to make sure to keep tension on the line so when it gets to the surface it does not just deflate. I had Kevlar gloves and would grip the line with one hand to break it and have the reel in the other hand. Somehow it always worked. I have not done an ocean dive in about 14 or 15 years (and the last few were open water). Part of me misses it. Not the getting back on the boat with all the gear though. I am sure you have a couple of cutting tools if needed for entanglement. Just keep your head about you and you will do fine. Calm really prevails in a pear shaped situation. I have no idea where you live but I have to give cave diving a shout out, LOL.
