    Great winch, great Jeep. And there is even a result. But isn't it expensive for a small stump? Minus the wheel, and the cost of snatch blocks, chain, etc. I have none of that. And even if I did - it is not always possible to drive to the place in the garden where you need to remove the stump. I think (after watching several videos on the subject) that the best and cheapest way to uproot tree stumps is to use a tubular tripod and a 2-3 ton chain hoist. This is both the most effective and the cheapest solution even for 2-3 stumps. Because I looked at the prices of rope and snatch blocks in my country - they are more expensive in the amount of 4-6 pieces than 1 powerful chain hoist.

      @wdgaylord 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Well, I didn’t buy the Jeep, winch, snatch blocks, or tire for the stump extraction. I used what I had therefore, this method is less expensive. Your way is also good.

    Thanks for the comment. Since making this video, I've thrown away the snap wring pliers replacing them with a heavy duty set and switched to Lube Locker gaskets for the front diff, rear diff, oil pan, and valve cover. Today, I don't use RTV on anything that I don't absolutely have to.

  • @flinch622
    @flinch622 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    "Heavy duty" snap ring pliers are not found at the average parts or hardware store. Knipex makes some brilliant offerings - I like their 45 degree offset on these style differentials [select proper pin size as needed because...I forgot the part number]. Also, instead of sealant and all the fuss that goes with that... try a lubelocker gasket. Goes on clean/dry and just bolt cover on & fill. I love these things because they are reuseable, so no worries if I decide to inspect from time to time.

      That is a fine tractor but it would not gain enough traction to pull the stump. Digging it out with the tractor would leave me with a much larger hole and take significant more time.

      I don't have an induction coil to test but I imagine it would only work if the head of the bolt was above the surface. In this example, it was. This was just an example as I could have applied heat to the welded nut from below the vehicle. Where this method is especially helpful is window door hinge and frame bolts on a Jeep TJ. They are all tapered head flush with the surface.

    Cool, thanks for the reply. Good to hear about its performance, I figured it would be the same as the Eaton. The CAD was on certain YJs that was a gas saving feature that basically didn’t turn the axle or diff. I put a cable actuator instead of vacuum that was so problematic.

    • @wdgaylord
      @wdgaylord 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Okay. You have a 2-piece axle on one side. The Wrangler is shaped like a shoebox. Fuel efficiency is not something I concerned myself with. I would replace that 2-piece with a single axle and eliminate another failure point.

  • @dkhallal

    I know this is an old video but did you ever install the one in your Dana 30? I’m in the process of regearing mine and have the Powertrax Grip Pro. But I have a Center Axle Disconnect on my 89 YJ that has a c-clip that held the center axle in place in the old carrier. And like you said in the video, no way to get into that one at all! I wonder if you had the same problem and what you did about it. I have an email into Powertrax but am looking for info elsewhere and found your video. I did the Eaton Trutrax in my Dana 35 for the rear. I wanted to save a few bucks and came across this one but now I’m doubting my choice, especially if I gotta grind my pinion gear. Came across another video from Australia about all the play where the axles enter the carrier as well.

    • @wdgaylord
      @wdgaylord 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Dean, A few months after installing in the D35, I installed one in the D30. After installing in the D30, I removed the rear drive shaft, put the Jeep in 4x4, and drove around in front wheel drive to determine how it would handle. I’m still very happy with the performance of both. I’m not sure what you mean by “center axle disconnect” so can’t respond to that. I didn’t have any clearance issues with the front differential. Install in the front was easier than the rear. Grinding the pinion on the rear is case by case but not a big deal if you must.

    I just completed the seal installation on my original owner 2002 Deere 4300 tractor (800 hrs.). I don't know if all the snow removal (all 4 tires chained up) I did this last winter caused the problem or not. I also spun a front tire off (opposite tire) and installed a new tube in the tubeless tire. A few comments, it took about 40 strokes on a fabricated slide hammer puller before I broke loose the drive cover from the housing. I didn't understand the 2 piece seal comments until I got into the assembly. I set the seal about .060" above the edge as several videos suggested. I have a 700 page factory manual, but really worthless as far as the task at hand. Everything went fine until the assembly with my 12 ton press. It didn't have enough power. I disassembled it, thinking I screwed up, but everything looked fine. I then pressed the larger bearing on with the spacer on top and socket over shaft. Went on fine, but the seal was now about .030" above the lip after pressing. I don't know if the seal would have moved less if I could press the entire assembly as shown in various videos. The other front assembly even has a smaller gap when viewed. Finished pressing on the remaining components and measured the top of the shaft to the race of the smaller bearing and it was .239", the same as before disassembly with easy clearance for the snap ring. So far no leaks. I also used a 3rd party seal that was $34.

      @wdgaylord ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the summary. Glad the vid helped. My press was 20 ton but I didn't feel like it was loaded at all. I bet others would appreciate you responding with the 3rd party seal info that was considerably less $$.

    A great video/tutorial. I have a 700 page factory service manual for my 2002, Deere 4300 (sync reverser-SRT) and it's not nearly complete as your instructions. I already have all the tools except the puller which I can fabricate/weld. I made a sliding weight puller years ago for roll pins, etc. that I can adapt. One question for you or other people reading this. I also have a small oil drip out of the plug (about 3" diameter) at the bottom of the front gear case. It looks like you have to punch it and pry out and replace ($12). Looks like it keeps oil in and dust out of the bottom of the gear case. Part number LVU25556 or LVU20868. Any help is appreciated. I will also post this on a tractor forum. Thanks again.

      @@wdgaylord I already ordered one, 2 different numbers from Deere?, but it doesn't look like it can be removed without destroying it which is fine. I just didn't want to damage something else. Small pipe plug on the side of the housing just above the 3" plug, I assume for draining any oil out of the gear case. I don't know if your 4310 had that. I'm just guessing it does and that would reduce the oil coming out when you pulled the hub. Thanks again! I know it's a lot more trouble to video the repair, but people like me really appreciate it.

    In this configuration you have THREE variable lengths rope lines. This means that for every three ft of cable you winch-in the stump only moves one ft . 3:1 advantage so your pull power is THREE times the winch power . 3 x 9,000 = 27,000 , doubling it would have been 18,000.
