A rare performance of O Holy Night when he was touring Germany in the 1970's.

The version of True on this recording is one of the greatest live performances by any artist. Just spine tingling. Many thanks for posting this.
RIP/JAMES & CASH McCall!
15:56 A very rare noticeable mistake here, in the left hand.
James cleaning up the lyrics to Junco Partner for this festival ! Hah!
Brilliant audio and video!!!!!!
8:08 "Oh Holy Night" one of the most beautiful Christmas carols, rendered more beautiful by Booker...😢 ❤
@@stanleydubroca2626 It’s amazing and only appears on this recording as far as I know.
@@IvoryEmperor Only time I've ever heard it by Booker, and I have a whole bunch of private CDs given to me by Lilly Keeber
Charlie Parker once said “music, when you play it it’s gone…”. That’s a musician speaking and it’s true of the moment but I would argue that the feeling remains and will live on… and on.
Eric Dolphy said on his "Last Date" album "When you hear music, after its over, its gone, in the air, you can never ... capture it... again".
In 1976 I had a girlfriend from Nottingham, I lived in London. We both loved music but she loved New Orleans music more and ditched me by marrying a New Orleans musician to get to realise her dreams of living there. We’re still friends and I know she still has a soft spot for me. Me too I guess for her but we were young then though I understand the allure of so much music in one city. James Booker wow.
Best piece of music ever!!!
Best piece of music ever!!!
Phenomenal artist i was sadly unaware of him until happening upon this video.
❤😊
Thanks for sharing

What is the song at 32:27?
Junko Partner
King! We are so blessed to have him ❤️🎶🙌🏼
side comment: what model piano is he playing on? 🧐
Amazing
I spent many a nights at the Maple Leaf bar listening the great James Carroll Booker the Third!!!...GOAT....THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME.
Booker no es de este mundo.
Genio!
Awesome performance 👏 👏👏
he sounds like 2 players. there is only one other person who sounds like that and its Art Tatum
EDDIE B O next, then EDDIE B O Y D ...
Wow! What a treat. Thank you for posting. I love Booker.
He's not human
The best piano player that ever lived he could do it all listen to Tico Tico mind blowing
Unbelievable
Masterpiece for all R&B piano lovers. Thanks
What an amazing footage which is a treasure of content. Booker was really unique. But I wonder what old camera they are using? It looks more like it's from the 30's or something. I am just waiting for Buster Keaton to show up anytime. That would have been cool 😀
@@Barrelhousekjell I think it’s been through a few VHS generations sadly.
This is soooooooooo good and relaxing!
The Audio CD by Montreux Sound is from 1997, and there is a story: We get it in the mail box later that summer to our surprise just as staff members ! I guess we were a thousand working there building all the stuff from the ground up. The best music I knew at that time, and it took time to find something of that level again !
Thank you! This upgrade looks a lot better than the last upload
You’re welcome! This version is synced to the audio from the out of print CD release.
James Booker's music is life.
It’s full of joy and pain 👍
James Booker isn't well known outside of New Orleans but if you know, you know. An absolute master and one of the all-time greats that ever lived.
My favorite pianist of all time:)
Un Europe he was famous and respected!!
Shut up with this " ' instrument' king" , they are full artists , he is a composer, a singer and a pianist not a signifying monkey playing amazing piano, as a lot of guitar players, talking of the most known example. It's about what you feel about these extraordinary...sounds.
The first time I heard a recording by James Booker I could have sworn there were two people playing two pianos. Unreal composer and performer.
Spiders on the keys!
This version of "True" finally convinced me that Booker was actually a very good singer as well as a keyboard master.
What a treasure this is!
Booker, his parents were Chopin and Ray Charles.
No one can touch
This entire group is TOPS: Tony Cooke, Cash McCall, the Bass, My Idol JB III 💕💕💕💕 Yes, I know it was recorded in 1978 -- I'm still listening! I became aware of Booker only a couple of years ago (it's now 2023) and this music still has it!
What's amazing about Booker is he can play just as well at the Maple Leaf with less than 10 people as he would in front of 1000's at Montreux or N.O. Jazzfest. This show is so gooood!
It’s hard to listen to Junco Partner knowing what eventually happened to Booker.
You can hear Harry Connick Jr. when Booker sings and plays. As a boy, Harry took lessons from James. Booker is clearly HCJ’s greatest influence.
I've been waiting many a years for the full concert to be released. Broker would play ay the Maple Leaf Bar and Laundromat on either a Tuesday or Wednesday night in the late1970's. I was told that he had a 10 key span.
Сумасшедшая энергетика,мощный посыл. Блестящая команда,которая держит и не отпускает. Огромное впечатление. Спасибо ПАРНИ!!!
the best black, gay, one-eyed heroin addicted pianist there ever was
Hypnotizingly beautiful . There will never be another like James Booker. Broke the mold when he was created.
⭐🎤🎹🎶💕The best!
So Good...it Hurts!
