My polyglot travel adventures 👋
I spoke 4 languages in 1 day | polyglot travel
Here is a story how I travelled from Paris to Amsterdam and spoke 4 different languages on the way!
1. I don't count Turkish as a language I speak, but I have some knowledge of it
2. I don't recommend or promote hitchhiking as your experience might be different from mine and you should always be aware and careful. If something seems fishy, it probably is.
3. It's part one of my Eurotrip videos. More videos are on the way.

I learned Thai for 1 month and went to Thailand.. here's how it went
มุมมอง 1.6K8 หลายเดือนก่อน
Here is a story how I learned Thai for 4 weeks and traveled around Thailand without speaking a word of English. Please take not of the following: 1. It's not my first time learning a language. 2. I don't claim to be fluent and would say that my Thai is far from being perfect. Perfection wasn't my goal and I had a lot of fun learning and traveling around. 3. I couldn't see every place but I did ...
Finally hear in chiang Mai and man I’m so glad I took a couple months to learn some Thai, I love talking to the people of the city in their native tongue
Haven’t gone to Bangkok yet, but my studying Thai and practicing at restaurants before hand is paying off tremendously. I had the goal of having a small conversation before I left for Thailand in April, and now after about 2 months of hard studying I can hold 15-30 minute long conversations… I love it
Very impressive. You worked hard to sound pretty authentic, and got great results
I've wanted to learn Thai since returning from my first trip to Thailand. The moment I set foot back home, I already knew by that time next year I'll be back there. I think it would be an amazing resource to hear your experience and process of learning the language, maybe resources and other things of the nature that were used to achieve that much in so little time prior to the fully immersing experience of just being there and using it.
Great video well done with the pud Thai khulp 🙏
After Chinese, Thai language is my love ❤️
Hi, I am so envious of your determination to speak Thai. Presently, I am in the process of learning the Thai language on the Internet for almost a year. I find it very difficult to relate to them when they reply to my simple Thai words. I feel at a loss probably, due to a lack of vocabulary knowledge. This is the first time I have watched your video. It's interesting and gives me encouragement to go on. I love the Thai culture and language. Their people are also friendly and warm. I hope to perfect my learning so that I can speak with them freely just like you on my next visit, Thank you for your wonderful video.
Hi mate, this is a great video, I’ve been to Thailand many times and I can speak SOME Thai - certainly not great but better than most Farangs who go for a quick holiday. My question is where did you learn to read? What resources etc? I’ve considered trying to get to grips with it but it’s a bit daunting, Thanks and once again, great video, I look forward to returning in March.
Awesome! I am learning Thai with pimsleurs Thai at the moment, I am super interested in your Video about the resources you used to learn writing and reading ❤
Hey, thanks for taking the time to learn Thai! That video will be uploaded tomorrow. I’m not a huge fan of Pimleurs (a bit too much English to my liking) but I use Glossika along with other resources and it works in a similar fashion. About the script - lmk if you have any questions.
Love your way of travel!, I tried to do that last time I travelled but its kinda hard for me to get close to strangers, do you have any tips?
It’s hard to generalise as every place is different. What works in Europe might not work in Asia, Americas are also different, Africa is extremely diverse… my rule of thumb is asking questions and seeing if people are willing to have a conversation. It’s important to mention that I usually do it in a different language and I have a good understanding of people. Hitchhiking is a great way to start a conversation with strangers but most people are paranoid about it (absolutely majority of them never did it and has no idea how it’s done). This opinion is especially strong among people living in the Americas (I include the entire continent, not just the US) even though some countries are great for travelling this way But what I like most about it is having conversations with random people. You never know what your next ride will be, and you don’t have to bother anyone, they stop because they want to. I have a video on my channel about going from Paris to Amsterdam, but I did quite a few trips like that one, I mean over 100k miles probably at this point. People stop quite easily (depends on your looks of course) and are willing to talk to you about anything really. I had rides with doctors, politicians, carpenters.. all kinds of people. In general talking to people is easier in Asia and Europe and it helps if you’re able to speak their language. Sure it takes some effort to break through the initial discomfort but it’s ok if you’re respectful and understanding of their boundaries. The more you talk to strangers, the better you feel their vibe. Practice, at some point you will be able to read people quite easily. The only thing to keep in mind is respect for others. If you have it, you’re good to go 🙌
@@renderingthedreamthanks for your answer! Yeah Im from Chile and the first time I hitchiked was in the countryside in france and it was great!
Pues Chile es literalmente uno de los mejores lugares para ser mochilero 😅 cuanto más al sur, más fácil es hablar con gente y encontrar transporte 🙌 También era uno de los lugares más fáciles para hacer dedo en Sudamérica 🤩 I loved every minute of it!
@@renderingthedreamjusto este verano pienso mochilear en el sur! Ya que nunca lo he hecho. En cuantos paises haz estado?
How did you learn all the languages
I speak 10+ languages and I learned most of them by myself. At this point I see every language as a system and teach people to do the same thing. Thai and Vietnamese are different from English but both of them have a clear structure. Most things around us are systematic including traffic, music, math etc. languages work the same way. If you want to learn a dance, you practice the moves one by one and connect them afterwards. With enough repetition you will be able to do it with your eyes closed. Language works the same way but on a larger scale. Most people don’t see the systematic approach and just do whatever comes to mind but it’s not my cup of tea. It’s not very effective imho. I can’t explain the whole system in one comment as it takes a few hours to explain how it works. I have some more information on my instagram page and offer consulting if needed. I will also post videos about it on this channel 🙌
@@renderingthedreamoh great thanks, yeah Im already following you on instagram
How did you manage learn enough to get along in there?
I speak 10+ languages and I learned most of them by myself. At this point I see every language as a system and teach people to do the same thing. Thai and Vietnamese are different from English at first glance but they both have a clear structure. Additionally Thai has quite a lot of influence from the western countries so it’s even easier to learn. Most things around us are systematic including traffic, music, math etc. languages work the same way. If you want to learn a dance, you practice the moves one by one and connect them afterwards. With enough repetition you will be able to do it with your eyes closed. Language works the same way but on a larger scale. Very nice !
Awesome! I'm your follower on Instagram and i just know that you have TH-cam channel. I'm from Indonesia and currently living in Vietnam, watching your videos makes me more motivated to learn Vietnamese. Keep it coming Brother, you're an amazing person!
Thanks for your support I appreciate it a lot 🙏 I will soon upload my Vietnamese video to the channel but it’s just a small part of what this channel is about 😅
@@renderingthedream May i know in which part of Vietnam you're at right now. Probably wont missed out your journey, Brother.
That was great! And also thanks for knowing some Ukrainian, your pronunciation was on point!
Дякую тобі 🙏 вже давно не говорив українською тя живу на іншому кінці Європи і тут в мене немає багато практики 😅
Wut. You just learned it for 2 months. Really?
At that point in time yes, but all together I spent 3 months in Vietnam and learned the language almost every day.
@@renderingthedream that's impressive! Looking for more from your channel. I like the way you make videos because it looks very genuine. Keep it up!
@@hoangtran-ek8mn Thanks a lot! I will post short videos on my IG and focus on longer videos for TH-cam, the recommendation algorithm for shorts is an absolute mess here. I will make some videos about my travels in Europe as well as some lifestyle content before heading to Asia once again this winter. 🙌
This is amazing!
Great job with the Video! Keep it up Sir.
Thanks, I appreciate your comment!
Your Thai language skill is amazing 🎉
Thanks 🙏 I do think that it needs a lot of work but at the same time the video isn’t about learning it to fluency (obviously I can’t do it in such a short period of time) I just wanted to see how far I can get by learning Thai for a month and document the process. I hope it worked out well enough 🙏
That's so amazing! Where did you learn the tones? I'm trying myself to also learn Thai but I'm struggling and could only find an app and already found an error in the lesson :(
Thanks a lot! I recommend mixed approach for the tones (if you know the letters) First you have to learn the high and mid class consonants since all the rest will be low. Knowing the tone marks also helps, the low, falling and high tones being the most important. Then understand dead and live endings. If you can stretch the sound, it's live. If not - it's dead. Once you have those 3, take one tone rule at a time and practice a lot. Just that tone rule. For example, mid or high consonant with a tone mark. Words like ใหม่ or ต่อ are low class because ห and ต are high and mid class respectively and they have a tone marker. Get used to those words (I looked through the list of frequently used words and the ones fitting my criteria) only then move on to the next tone rule not to mix them up. activethai dot com has a decent explanation of how tone rules work. They also teach letters, syllable types etc. I used another tool but can't find it for some reason. (I'll post a link once I find it) Learn thai with white guy is also quite good at breaking things down. But again, since tones are overwhelming, start one by one. learnwitholiver dot com has a lot of flashcards with clear pronunciation to help you try reading and checking if you were right or not. Thai-language dot com is a dictionary to check if you guessed the tone correctly. Chat GPT can make lists of vocab but doesn't understand tones. Tone table is available on a bunch of resources. Slice-of-thai dot com has a link to voice viewer to check if your intonation is correct when you speak out loud. there are also some other resources on their site. I will make an in-depth video on learning resources soon.
@@renderingthedream still don't. Still trying the transliteration approach. Any material you could share?
Transliteration approach doesn't work for the long run. It's a shortcut not leading very far and you'll still have to go back to the main road. Activethai is decent, they have lessons on letters as well. What helps a lot are the names of cities and countries (they are pretty much the same in Thai and English sharing the same set of letters) Instead of watching videos, you can learn most consonants with hands on approach (don't think about the tones or complex vowels too much, just get used to consonants first) มาดริด, มาลี, มาเลเซีย, มาร์เซย์ - These are Madrid, Mali, Malaysia and Marseille (French pronunciation Mar-sey - making the Thai word Ma-Sae) From these examples you can learn the letters ม and า making มา, ด is D in MaDriD, ร would be R etc. ซ is one of the letters making S sound in MalaeSia and Ma(r)Sae(y). ล is L in MaLi and MaLaesia Vowels are more complex, since there are short and long versions of them and the position differs, but frequently used consonants can be learned like this. ร์, ย์ that little symbol makes the letter silent so I put them in brackets. เดรสเดน That's Dresden. ด is D, ร is R, เ is Ae (it always goes before the consonant but should be read after it, so the syllable is Drae) ส is S, there is your ด again, with the same เ making it Dae and there is an น - N. เดนมาร์ก is Denmark, you already saw D, Ae and N, you also saw M and A in Madrid. As you can probably guess ก is K. ร์ whenever you see this little symbol on top of the letter, it makes the letter silent. So Thai word is Daenmak, the R is silent. Just like มาร์เซย์ is Ma-Sae cuz R and Y and silent. Like this, 9 letters of the alphabet are already quite clear, you just have to find more names of different places having similar letters (outside of Asia) Just by looking and Spain and Sweden สเปน - สวีเดน you can see the S - ส and the N - น. ป is P, and you can remember เ -ae so เป is pae making it Spaen in Thai. There is a new letter in Sweedaen - ว -and it sounds like W in water. so วี is "Wee". there are multiple letters having the same sound in thai but the one of them is more frequently used (there are 3 different S letters - ส,ษ and ซ, but ส is the one being used frequently) th-cam.com/video/PudbUSW1HI8/w-d-xo.html this video is quite helpful explaining how the letters work. it's old but it's good enough.
We are planning to move to Bangkok next year and I've started to try to learn Thai. I've made it through the alphabets, but I find it hard to listen and understand what the thais are saying. And of course remembering it all. Super impressed that you were able to pick up so quickly. Amazing video and really enjoyed your journey.
Moving to Bangkok sounds like a great plan 👏 and learning the script increases the chances of success 🤞 but in terms of understanding, it always takes a bit longer even if you’re familiar with other tonal languages. (unless you speak a language of the same group as Thai but I think it’s not the case) You will be at the stage where you can express yourself but still not fully understand what people are saying and that’s ok. It will come a bit later since spoken language isn’t actually always the standard dialect (I still recommend getting the basics of central Thai pronunciation down) Many Thais omit some letters or substitute them like in words ครับ where the “r” just disappears at times (Krap becomes Kap) or รถ loosing the “r” and getting “L” instead (“rot” becomes “lot”, happens a lot with “R” words) so you might think that it’s a different word but it’s actually the one you already know but just don’t recognise. Even the word ผัดกะเพรา is pronounced as “pad krapao” when it should be “pad kaprao”, the letters are the other way around. There are also many colloquial expressions and particles that you’ll eventually figure out. I am making a video about the resources I used to learn Thai and it should be out tomorrow. There are some good resources for listening there as well. Best of luck with your plans!
What a great video! This was so interesting to watch!!
Thanks a lot :) it means a lot 🙏
This is amazing! I think you found a great way to reuse your shorts into a long-form video making a story. Looking forward to seeing what will be next!
Well I'll definitely do my best to keep more of those videos coming! I will have to test what works and what doesn't :) Thanks a lot!
I expected the ppl to be surprised if you talking Thai so good but they werent any surprised
yeah for that I feel he'd have to start first speaking in English and then switch middle of the conversation ahah
Bro how the hell did they manage to get up to 250K?
250k is very cheap it's 10 dollars
The initial price was 280k so they actually went down 👍
Yeah overall price quality ratio in Vietnam is great
Cool
I just came coincidentally to your video. I am tamil sri lanka woman and born in Swiss. Having to cultures can be difficult and so different. When you said you wanna experience the local life, I totally get you. Cuz going to Sri Lanka showed me how life can be so different and where the value of life is put. Because in a europe country you may be privileged but not happy. I see people on train amd being stressed and depressed and nohing line joy. But in Sri Lanka some people live in poverty and not having so much privilige (but it is changing to get better) but are happy. Cuz they live life and enjoy it. I subscribed you to support and hope you make more videos of experiencing local life. Cuz a lot people have never reall saw the other side of life except tourism. And that is sad.
Thanks for your reply and for subscribing, it means a lot to me 🙏 This isn’t necessary a travel only channel, I will post videos on different topics including language learning, health, immigration etc. As for happiness - I don’t think it’s only about money but money plays an important role in it. I wasn’t born in a welfare state and have a different perspective on that. I would say life experience, upbringing and weather play much more important role in feeling happy or miserable and it’s a personal responsibility of every individual.

Maybe get up early to avoid this situation in the future. Just a thought.😊
I travel with a carry on bag and usually get to the airport 1 hour before the flight but this time I didn’t pay enough attention and missed it by 2 minutes. I was happy to spend another week in Saigon though so I went to eat my favourite breakfast early in the morning 😅 all good ;)
@renderingthedream Sounds good. I am sure the food was delicious!
@@thetimeisnear7347 you’re absolutely right 👏
I swear ur Thai accent and English accent is so different it’s so funny😂😂😂 anyway Thai is hard so keep it up👍
My voice changed every time I speak a different language except maybe Spanish and Catalan (it’s more about the rhythm, not the pitch) What’s the most challenging thing about Thai in your opinion?
Thats not just thailand. Its just an older style of pump
I couldn’t figure it out early in the morning 😅
The road rages in THA is crazy by the way,so try to avoid any confrontation while driving
I do my best 🙏
No one speak english 😮😮
