Walthamstow Market 1960
มุมมอง 7K3 ปีที่แล้ว
8mm silent movie of Walthamstow Market in 1960. A version of this with a music soundtrack by Lunar Vibe at th-cam.com/video/NLZM-LCsF9g/w-d-xo.html
The block of flats, at the end: It looks like it was filmed from the ramps above the railway, between Silver St Station and White Hart Lane. Regents Remoulds Tyres, l think, was at the end of the road where l lived as a child, Parkstone Ave - l am sure the blurred road sign said Shaftesbury Rd N.18. Great memories. Thanks.
Pleased my father's film footage bought some great memories. 👍👍👍👍
Hello, we are looking to license some of the footage used in this video. What's the best way to contact you regarding licensing? Thanks.
Apologies for the delay getting back. I don't check into this channel very often. You are welcome to use footage from this video for free under non-exclusive licence. 👍👍
Wow my home town Edmonton, North London in 1960.😊
Mine too!
Love the video, great to see the flares, and the different fashions.Great community spirit and not afraid to be proud of our country.
The way headscarves are worn in this video was how we all wore ours in that decade. The late Queen Elizabeth looked particularly attractive in scarves tied under the chin.
Good to see, but also sad!! Its a tip now" how many people know the reason why ? lol get it right!! and win a gold fish"... lol
This footage is all fake: london has always had diverse community. This is way too white to be real. 100% AI generated
could be another planet now
Less trash everywhere.....
The bit with the bike riders is the road going through Edmonton green near the cinema
I was born in Ascot road in 1959. Then my famly movd into the brand new Maisonetts in Bounces Road after the one side of Ascot road was demolished to enlarge Bretnham Road School. Amazing sieeing this film. Thanks for uploading.
Pleased you enjoyed watching this film 😊😊
I went to Bretenham school!! Hehe @@8mmtodigital
Please could I check if you have any footage of Walthamstow in the 1970s?
HI Alex. Thank you for watching. This is the only footage I have .
My family come from Edmonton, my dad was born there in 1929. I love going “home “ to watch a game 😘❤️
Thanks for watching. Pleased you liked this video taken by my father. I grew up in Edmonton in the 1960s and 70s. 👍👍
Nice video
Thank you 👍😊
This market back in the day use to be packed on Saturdays you could hardly move. Now it’s so dead and empty. How times have changed. I use to go market on Saturdays with my mum and sister. My highlight was Woolworths and the pick n mix. Then going for pie mash & licker. Sad to see what has become of Walthamstow market, especially being born and raised there. And how time has flown I’m now 40
I remember how busy it was when my father worked at Fish Bros. Jewellers Haven't been to Walthemstow for a long time. It's a pity to hear that the market has declined in recent years. I have many happy memories of it 👍👍😊😊
Wasn't that back then when Walthamstow was an Essex town?
Yes I think it was part of Essex in the early 1960s before it was merged with Leyton and Chingford in the later part of the 60's
@@8mmtodigital it did merge with Leyton and Chingford because the suburbs of the towns that surrounded the original London County Council (referred to the inner london boroughs) had grew and linked with all of the other nearby towns in their historic Essex, Kent, Surrey, Middlesex and Hertfordshire counties.
Great video thanks for sharing
Thank you for watching :)
i lived in hoe street about 5 years
I lived in Walthamstow for the first 25years of my life. It was brilliant!! Not so nice now, even Manzes Pie & Mash shop has closed. Lovely, lovely memories. Thankyou. 😍😍
Thanks for watching and for your comment. My father who took this video worked at Fish Bros. Jewellers behind the market from the 1960s until the 1980s.
@@8mmtodigital Yes I knew it well. Keep safe.
Yep full of riff raff now especially from the southern continent
A sad day when Manze closed
Très original merci like
So strange to see so many places I recognise. A lot of what is shown in this film in 1960 was still around in 1968 when my family moved to Edmonton. The now demolished school and college building on Montagu Road. The flats in Jeremy’s Green can be seen in the background. The alley that is still there today that runs from behind Montagu Gardens to Montagu Road. Lower Fore St, where Cooks and Jones were (opposite todays Asda, just before what was the Broadway). Church Street travelling in the direction of Edmonton Green, and the old houses on Ascot Rd. I don’t recognise the location where the policeman is seen riding his bike. Any idea?
Thank you for your interesting comments Aaron. The video was taken by my father. Interesting to hear how Edmonton has changed since this was filmed :)
01:15 Policeman on a pushbike! An extinct species now,
Where's this pls.? @1.12
Not sure. Upper Edmonton - Maybe Fore Street somewhere?
Edmonton Green, the old Hill where the Rainbow Practice/Evergreen surgery now stands. Much nicer then.
Oh wow! Thank you for this video. I was born and lived in Edmonton until 2016. My entire family came from there
Pleased you liked the video

Fantastic. Harika.

I was born in Walthamstow, lived In Leytonstone. We moved to Oxfordshire when I was four. Thanks dad, thank you so so much.
Fish Brothers are still there
Great market in the 50’s after the war when you could get bargains that fell off the back of a truck
I don't believe it! I was head boy at Montague high school
During my time there, the headmaster was Jones. We called him jug head. Another teacher, Mr John we called bomber. Another teacher who was my favourite was Ami. I saw him nine years later standing in Elizabeth street, Sydney, Australia. I have always been sorry that I was unable to stop and talk to him. At 36secs. The building that you see only from the rear was the caretakers. At 53secs was the wood working building. The buildings you see behind that is Jeremys Green, where I lived. At 59secs the building nearest to the camera was where we had our meals, but I think was used for some of the time as infants school.
Hi there, Do you have any footage of Rathbone Market in Canning Town in the 70s to early 80s that you could upload to your YT channel? Thank you.
Hi Andy, Sorry I haven't any footage of Rathbone Market.
@@8mmtodigitalI'm still convinced someone has footage of that market filmed in the 70s or 80s and doesn't want to share it on an video sharing site, including Facebook. Awkward.
@@Scott_Finch Hopefully someone will post one day. The Walthamstow Market was filmed by my father whe worked in Walthamstow. I've been through all his old films and unfortunarely there isn't any of Rathbone Market.
@@8mmtodigital Walthamstow market isn't the same anymore, which is heartbreaking to most people who used to enjoy shopping for bargains on market days in the high street.
@@Scott_Finch Great shopping area if you're looking to buy a new burqa or hijab.
Great stuff. I lived 5 mins away near St James St.
So did I. Hartington road.
@@brendamandrak2863 I also lived on Hartington Road.!! Small world.
I remember well my family from Edmonton
Lovely video. It was my Mum on the horse!
