Peak Dino Taming - Ark: Survival Evolved

So I've recently gotten started in Ark. The game is fun, but it is severely lacking in the tutorial department. I was playing around with taming dinosaurs and was having trouble figuring things out. I had no concept of levels or difficulty, so I tried this out. It did not end well.

    A tip for a limited "spares" playthroughs: Avoid quasar drive ships. They will try to fry and than smash your cutter for no particular reasons. Ok, you could run through fire without damage at all, you could use coolant to shut it down, you could even "tank" fire damage if unlucky, but when halves of that huge engine nacelle would attempting to dance after disconnecting (as they do time to time) - you may find yourself between two of these with your options very limited...

    first, make the game playable without any tips, tricks and tutorials. ps thruster fuel market where.

  • @derpleyew
    @derpleyew 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    A tip for the cutter: apply the brakes on your thruster just before you make a cut. I pretty much never use the stinger mode, with brakes in use and a careful alignment you can cut through multiple points using the split saw. I’m talking slicing into 4 or 5 rows of the yellow cut points in a single cut. It’s amazingly efficient but you *have to* use the brakes for this to work. Get the angle just right so that your cutting line extends to all of the cutting points, brake, then cut. You can get the entire hull off in seconds. Love this video for giving the advice on what upgrades aren’t so necessary, I don’t feel as bad for neglecting my suit now!

  • @krasbestendig
    @krasbestendig 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    When positioning for cutting, turning gives you the most intuitive control, but relying on up/down/left/right/rotate is better, because they can be breaked. Just start the movement, wait until your good, break. Not good? You're close, so repeat but in smaller doses

    With regards to oxygen recharge: You come quite quickly to a point where you only need one refill O2 per shift and the cost for O2 is not so high, so yeah; skipped that one too since it has a very low return on investment that vanishes later on when your O2 lasts the entire shift.

    Durability over fuel capacity is a really bad advise ;f

    • @arcstar
      @arcstar 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm curious why you think this. I never found fuel capacity very limiting and it was easy to fill at the start of a shift if needed. The repair parts weren't that big of a deal either really, but I just didn't like repairing the tools. It's probably just a matter of personal preference, unless you know of something I missed.

    • @krasbestendig
      @krasbestendig 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree. Repairing a tool is barely necessary and the repair kit doesn't cost that much. When I started the game, I saw it was the reward for a resource efficient dismantle. But it actually isn't that great of a reward imo

      If you use the grapple to pull yourself everywhere it's not only much faster but also uses way less fuel.

  • @andrewvice4065

    Thethers only valuable on heavy large chunk cutting everything else should be pushed as tethers add up fast every 100 is 16000000

    • @arcstar
      @arcstar ปีที่แล้ว

      The value, as with most things, is situational. Yes, cutting things can make them easier to push in, but using tethers can free up time you can spend doing something else. Early on, when your rent per day is high, the time is more valuable, so the trade off can change over time. You are right though that you don't want to be using tethers for everything. The grapple provides plenty of value by itself.

    One pretty neat thing he totally missed is that you can negate collision damage if you use the grab on button. So if you pull yourself toward something at high speeds just let go of the pull button then hold the grab button and when you hit what ever is in front of you you'll brace yourself for the impact. It doesn't work att full speed but still pretty much the speed you would've used with your normal brakes anyway, even a little faster than that. The same goes for catching objects. Yes, you can catch things you pull towards yourself! Not massive things but still, a lot of cargo, furniture, electrical panels ect ect. Just remember to let go of the pull button first, otherwise it won't work!

    • @NovaTheAngel
      @NovaTheAngel ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, if you are either unsure or know that opening an airlock will result in a violent blowout you can hold the grab on button (the left one only!) WHILE opening the door with your right hand!

    I find it funny I've only been playing this game for 12 hours and I learned most of these tricks myself I was hoping to find some more watching yours which I did about the AI nodes. But I'm hoping by watching others I find a few more. I am still in New and I just recently got to pressurized ship's. I am only about five hours in and looking for some tips and tricks

      Thanks! I tried making a more interesting intro this time and I generally like it, but it did seem to fall a little flat. I need to spend more attention on the emotion that I put into the dialog, but that's more of an issue with my personality.

    I hope everyone enjoys this review. I had a blast playing Subnautica on my stream and I've been on a survivalcraft kick lately, so there will probably be more reviews of that type of game coming soon. Please let me know what you thought of Subnautica and whether this video helped you decided to play, or not to play the game. As always, I'm still pretty new at video editing, so feel free to provide feedback and let me know what I still need to work on (I'm sure there is a lot of it).

      Unless perfecting ships for stickers chunk cutting ships is fastest way to advance in both currencys, most ships have areas to cut them open in large areas then empty all barge items and despose of ships in at most 8 large chunks worry about 4 staring for most of money but waste to much time on smaller chunk cutting sometimes it's worth it to just send some furnace debris into the process area or barge allowing more ships per hour as most can be finished in 15 mins or less if your cutting multiple days your to slow or cutting to small

    I've had this game on my wishlist for quite a while, but it's never quite excited me enough to pull the trigger. I think you've pushed me to do it, though. At least when it next goes on sale. It seems like a super neat concept for a game, and I quite like the idea of floating around a big, lonely, derelict hunk of metal. Sounds relaxing. Great video, I hope to see more!

      I played it when it hit Game Pass, so I certainly understand waiting for a deal. It is definitely worth checking out though, so toss it on your wish list and pick it up if you get the chance.

    I only saw you play a bit of this but I agree with you about the music, it was so good. Nice twang to it. The regen situation seemed frustrating but only because of how much debt it puts you in lol. Non-skippable cut scenes are a bit of an annoyance for me in general. Overall it seems like a nice game for chilling

Also, my video editing skills are still very much at the novice level, so do let me know if there are any aspects of the videos that I need to work on to improve the overall quality.

    • @kreamies6720
      @kreamies6720 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the editing was great! The one thing I think needs to be improved is audio quality and balancing. Having some sound dampening would be very beneficial, to stop your voice from echoing. Plus this is just a personal thing, but I think minimizing the silence in background noise would benefit the video. From 1:40 until 2:14 you're talking about the music as it plays behind your voice, and I think this part of the video really stands out. It seems "fuller" if that makes sense. Perhaps you could use more music clips from the game you're talking about in the future, and have them play quietly in the background. Overall, I really liked the video! It certainly made me go check out the game on Steam again haha.

    • @arcstar
      @arcstar ปีที่แล้ว

      Audio balancing is something I struggle quite a bit with. I'm always worried about the background volume being too loud and making it too hard to hear what I'm saying. It sounds like I may be going a bit too far down with background things though, which is great to know. The other problem with the audio for the video clips that I use is that they will either be from a stream and include me talking about something random with chat or have game characters talking about something, which both interfere with the review audio. One thing I'll try is pulling random background game audio from another clip to get good background audio even if it's not from the same video clip I'm using. Thanks for the great feedback!

    • @arcstar
      @arcstar ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure. Mixing things up is great, but some of the issues they had just seemed like laziness. Especially the performance issues compared to much older games, like Breath of the Wild, which seemed to do a lot more a lot better with the same console, just a LOT earlier.

  • @BrosefTheMighty
    @BrosefTheMighty ปีที่แล้ว

    Very well done Arc!! I agree with pretty much all your points. The LP/money system was a little silly, and I would be so happy if they added a shiny sparkle or sound. Hopefully videos like this helps guide Nintendo to fix some of the issues.
