We need to do this in Ireland, one county's fire and rescue service back around 15 years ago had red and blues on some of their trucks instead of just blues and it worked very well, much more visible than just one single colour. Doubt we'll ever do it because this country dont like change, even if its small and doesn't have any cons.

i remember a job at glendenning where plumpton 1 A went in to a septic tank on someones property ,,,, they said they were having traction issues , same driver rolled a petrol tanker in to a row of shops in bexley setting fire to it , yeah he wasnt allowed to drive after that , another morning i rock up to shane park station for training and a proby was already there ( i was early ) and he said theres a fire truck in the park behind the station, i pointed to the shed and said yeah and theres one on there too , he goes nah they look bogged , sure enough there was a varley commander from 77 up to its axles in peter van hasselt reserve behind the station , long story short they bogged 78 pumper and 63 rescue befor ending up getting a recovery vehicle from greenacre , why not just ask us , simple this was back in 98 and there was major rivalry between board and rfs they didnt want to work with us claiming we were just the old bushys plus it would have been embarrassing , there was one SO from 78 i liked who once said " they are there to be used and ill effing use them " he passed away hrom a heart attack at a church fire years later , i wish i could remember is name bit too many faces at this point ya know , , another job we were sent to pull 78 tanker out of a bog when they got stuck too close to a tree line just as they ran out of water , they were about to go refill but couldnt move , but its not all fun and games and coming to save the day , ive had to dig out both shane park 1 and 9 out a few times , army entrenching tools are really handy bit of kit , i ended up leaving my old one on the truck , they clearly needed it more than i did lol

they actually tried this years before this event , i remember the famous white fire truck back when they had the acco's , i saw it years later when i joined the rfs at a starg down south about 01/02 in the reserve fleet , there was even a ford cargo pumper at burwood ses painted white for a bit , it looked like they never moved it much , i remember the lime green firepac being at burwood , the idea for blue and red was red worked better at night and blue was supposed to be more visible during the day , well thats what i was told , blacktown rfs had full code 3 bar lights on most trucks and cat 9s shane park only had a pair of strobes on the bullbar but the rest of that truck had the standard beacon set up , marsden park was called the cristmas tree because they went a bit overboard with their set up so much so that on a few jobs the cops had actually asked they turn some off

RE: I am Tramboy. I stumbled upon this video by mistake, I wasn't even searching for trains or trams. "when I was arrested and taken to Youth Justice, Detective Senior Constable Barry Hills was on the phone to the transport minister, it was at this time that the detective looked at me and said; the minister said you can still be a tram driver if you wish to be one'' I am the one that stole the tram in 2005, I was 15 back then and I was placed at the Parkville Youth Justice Centre, it was a few months before the 2006 Commonwealth Games. I lived in Sunshine, I was a ward of the state, I use to run away from home, get in trouble with police. There are parts to the story that aren't true: The media said the power was cut off, it wasn't, I was coming to the end. As soon as I saw two police cars coming towards me, I increased my speed, then I realised I was coming to the end of the stop, at this point I came to a stop and ran to the other end of the tram, I was intended to drive the tram in the other direction but the cops got out fast and pointed their gun... I do remember yelling out that I stole the tram to the passengers and I do remember hearing a couple of passengers telling the cops not to be so harsh as they were basically on top of me handcuffing. The false is: I never told anyone I wanted to be a tram driver, I did it as an exercise, point scoring or otherwise to prove a point, I also broke into a police station and stole gear, it was so sensitive that all charges were dropped, otherwise that would have made it to the media too. Shortly after being arrested for stealing a tram, I was taken to the Burrandara police station, I was informed by the constables that they thought I was a terrorist, that's why they had their guns drawn, I was also informed that such a huge incident required the premier to be notified immediately. After my interview with police, I was driven home by one detective, back to Sunshine, as more days past, they were getting sick of more and more details popping up regarding me taking a train and also a bus and eventually the detective applied to have me placed at Parkville Youth Justice Centre where I was on remand for 7 months. The Magistrates court never sentenced me, instead, they held me on remand till I would behave, I had a new court date each month but as I never behaved and I was running around inside the Youth Justice Centre, they kept sending me back. Some of the facts from this: I stole the keys from the Kew tram depot, I just walked in off the street, I stumbled upon an office and went inside, I saw a set of keys so I took them, an employee walked in and I made up a heap of crap as to why I was there and he I walked back out and onto the street - within a 7 minute process, I had a set of tram keys for Melbourne's C1-class tram, a new, modern and low floor tram. I took the tram to Port Melbourne many times, I made many emergency braking test, I even tested the time it took to come to a complete stop, how long it would take to reach top speeds etc. I did all the above in a safe and balanced conditions, along the light rail section between Southbank depot and Port Melbourne. I never drove on the wrong side of the road, headlights were always on, indicators were always used where applied, and I was able to override the continuous operating safety system but requires you to take action to prevent the tram from stopping. And today... I never became a train or tram driver, I make a lot of money doing other things but being an adult, I can't do anything that involves breaking the law. As a child, I was given immunity by the state, because as I was a ward of the state from age 8, the government was somewhat responsible... I grew up as a Catholic and I became better for what I did then and who I am today. Tram Boy maybe something that happened once, and it may go on in history... it was certainly a powerful incident, because I took the tram for over 3 years before the authorities were alerted, it was due to a tram employee waiting for a tram outside the Key depot that I passed, I was going to stop but decided not to and I even had passengers so he much have thought something was up. The police responded like the fire brigade, fast, within 5 minutes they were driving towards me on that very same road. I should mention... I was under the legal age at the time so my name was never mentioned but there was a time sometime after 2006 that I gave an interview over the air but I forget what radio station it was.
