How to turn a cheap drum kit into a garden water feature
มุมมอง 4868 ปีที่แล้ว
Mike Evans , drummer with The Electric Luddites in Sheffield , goes through a step by step process on how he converted a second hand cheap Chinese drum kit into an amazing and unique garden water feature. Appart from a drum key (99p on ebay) no unusual tools were used - screwdrivers,Fiskars scissors. Stanley knife, hammer, tape measure, electric drill and jig saw. The drum kit was bought via Sh...

Doesn't seem so 'Ezee'.
I bought his plans a few years ago and made one. I modified the size to make it more of a rectangle instead of square. I also routed the grooves just a little bigger for ease of it fitting together. It is very strong and I do not struggle at all putting it together. It is from a guy in the UK. Obviously he did his plans in metric which was fine with me. I bought a metric tape measure. I do recommend this riser. Have used it for just about every show when I have room. I would recommend it if he still has it.
Do you still have those plans by any chance?
@@mulletpower2009 I believe so. Let me look for it and I’ll respond back.
No longer available. I will try to take it down if I can access the admin section of the channel
There was a little bit of struggle when putting the pieces together, and for that reason, im out…
Router the grooves a little bigger. That’s what I did.
@@ledhed5717 I found the perfect plastic pallets on marketplace for a seamless setup.
Of course it’s racist being from America
Is this still for sale? The website link is dead.
No sorry.
Two Clowns One Owl and a Dragon
Do not bend over and point your butt at your audience. Otherwise I think you have a fine product design.
This Is of the most stressful things I’ve ever seen ! Love the idea though
I hope he is the roadie? The drummer would be exhausted and would have to cancel the show.
Nonsense, I use mine almost every show. It goes up and tears down really easy. I did router my grooves just a tad bigger so they slip in and out easier.
It's your story...you can tell it however you want but the guy struggling in the actual video says it all. Cheers.@@ledhed5717
Mine sounds great but it arrived with one of the feet missing, the input connection and washer are misaligned, shellac dripping down the sides and still smelling like it was freshly shellacked and the beatbox logo is smeared. 😕😕
As a drummer this makes me cry
Fraser, don't feel too bad, it was a pretty shitty kit that would have probably ended up in a skip if I hadnt bought it. It wasn't one that anyone would have wanted to gig with out a complete change of heads, hardware cymbals and probably shells lol. The good news is that it's still in the garden after several years. The metalwork has rusted nicely giving it a rustic look. At the time of writing I still have 4 acoustic kits and 2 edrum kits inside the house that I do play record and gig with.
@@mikeevans1952 ahhhh good to hear , sorry it sounded a complaint , I am a 15 year old drummer from England , having drums as a garden ornament seem awsome as a drummer
@@frasermccomb1934 Fraser, when I was 15 my kit was what was known as a " Bitza Kit".. Bits of this, bits of that. Nothing matched. It was all second hand or scounged from drummer friends of my dad who played trumpet in local bands for dancing in clubs. For Christmas I had a new bass drum pedal and saved pocket money to buy new stands. My pride and joy was a brand new Premier 2000 snare drum that my dad bought for me using an Ajax snare as part exchange. I used to use Fablon (sticky backed plastic) to cover the drums so they matched in look. So I do understand the feeling of seeing a matching kit still in playable condition being used as a pot plant. When it could be being used by a young drummer. The good news is that there are many dozens like it being offered for small sums daily on websites like Gumtree and Shpock.
@@mikeevans1952 yes thank you for the time to talk about this
Good test, 👍
Does anybody know what this process is called ? I mean the configuration? . I am looking to make some up for plastering ceilings
What an amazing idea. Personally i call it the egg carton concept.
yesterday I tried laquer thinner on a black Magnum drumhead and it worked. After that- I have no idea if has any effect- i washed the head with soap water and put some fabric softener on it in case the thinner would harden the head. But for sure- the logo is gone and the head is all black now
I made one of these in the 80's. Don't know why I didn't think to cut holes for handles. Lol I have since made a couple other designs and about to build a newer one I had an idea for. I may do a video for it. Nice job on this. I like the tapered ends too.
I am in the process of making a very similar drum riser. I think you will find that if you are to cut a slight angle at the entry and on each side of the slots the boards would mate far easier. I also cut my slots 1/32nd of an inch wider than the boards. I am using 1/2" Baltic Birch Plywood for my panels. My riser measures 84" wide X 64" deep from front to back. I also cut the front corners of the riser off at an angle. I found a place online where you can buy stage skirts 12" high which is the finished height of my riser. They wrap around the riser from back corner all the way around to the other back corner with velcro. Looking forward to seeing my completed.
Nice work!! Looks like a great product
Listening to this music watching him struggle🤣
He needs to do all reviews.... for all companies....
i wonder how it sounds if u slam it with your weenie
Not bad, but a bit lacking in balls.
Mike, take the bottom heads off and spray a small amount of expanding foam in there, (not to much) this will help secure the buckets in place
Thanks for the idea.. however, this is the 3rd year they have been in my garden and they are working fine. I have replaced the water features with more flowers because the pump units died and I couldnt be bothered to replace them
good stuff i think its kinda muffled sound i will give it a go based on your excellent demo
I didn't get on with it practice so sold it. Sound depends on the amp you plug it into
Could you send a link for the plans? Thanks.
PLEASE EMAIL DAFISHER@MAILCOM HE IS THE ONE SELLING THE PLANS
Nice product! How can I get the plans for this project?
you get what you pay for so...
sideshowdrummer yes thats right. But my video is designed to show people who are thinking of buying one what it sounds like because the manufactures havent done it themselves. I make videos on equipment that wish i had been able to see before I bought the product myself. Ive found even downloading user manuals before buying a product can be a bit confusing as they are not very well written. I try to overcome this by trying to explain things simply. Check my 2box video series https;//2boxfornewbies.weebly.com
Are the plans available?
Richard Chaddock plans available from dafisher@mail.com
wyecreekmusic Is that email supposed to be @gmail? Or @mail? I’d love to get those plans.
Yes I can see it wouldn't, your not the drummer haha, I am on my own and I am practicing the tambourine strapped to my high stool, it was sounding great tonight, cheer.
Great complete demo, I will stick with my tambourine tied to my tall stool for now! thanks
I found it didnt work for me with the rest of the band so I sold it a week after making the video
quite interesting. your effort much obliged.
would it be possibly to get the plans and materials list for this project. Thanks
Pedal Steel...Cool!
Great looking product! Would you happen to sell plans/cut lists for those of us in Canada 🇨🇦 & willing to build our own? 😉
Received plans & look forward to building my own. Thanks!
how do i get plans for these?
Are the plans available online somewhere?
Try bashing it with your knob. In a sock.
Was laughing so much with this comment my mouse pointer went everywhere hahahaha
On the pedal steel lead, the first time you hit pad 1 you got a phrase, then later you went back and hit pad 1 and got another phrase. How did that work?
No I have different phrases on different pads. So probably hit different pads not same one. HOWEVER, theorectically you can have 2 different sounds assigned to the same pad... but you have to then alter the velocity levels of each of the 2 sounds so that if you hit pad gently , sound A plays if you hit it harder the sound B plays. Ive not been able to get that to work for me because the 'quiet' hit also make the sound play quiet so cant hear it above the din of the band LOL
mast
very good
Thanks for that Mike. An interesting experiment. How has it performed during your gigs? Martyn
Martyn , in the end I havent used it. I couldnt get used to playing it. When I sat on the cajon the angle of my foot on the stompbox was very awkward and I kept getting a pain in my ankle. In fact your message has reminded me that I was going to sell it . Thanks Mike
It didnt work out so I sold it
Thanks for a real honest practical approach to what one can expect from these units / hope you follow up with using it with the cajon / I'm not a drummer but I'd like to hear a drummer's perspective on this in a live setting. / A video would be great. / Let's encourage live music. -dan-
excellent video. I'm looking for a Pad that can play loops while I'm paying other instruments on the go. best of all it's price. Roland and Yamaha's Pads are too expensive.
Jessie, I understand that the first production issues had a slight problem but they sorted it with a software modification. You can alter both the sensititivity and volume of each pad. One thing that I cant remember covering in any depthin the video is that you cant assign TWO sounds to each pad. But to do this you have to set it so that one sound triggers when you hit the pad 'softly' and the other when you hit the same pad "harder". Its quite tricky to manage - especially playing live and it is possible that if youpit too many dounle soiunds on the set of pads that the 'soft' sample on one pad , triggers when you hit another pad very hard. But I mean VERY hard. I have had very few issues with cross talk. Then it was because my home made samples were not of a consistant quality so I had to mess about with the triggering sensitity and volume to make the sound as loud as I wanted while playing and hence causes some triggering of neighbouring pad because they were set at lower threshold. But none of this has caused any embarrasment on stage and once you realise it happened, you can after the gig adjust the sensitivities of the pads so get around it. You can set different pad sensitivities for each 'kit'. So if you find you do get cross talk on one kit it doesnt mean all kits will have the same issue. .. I would end by saying that this has been and still is a great addition to my set up .. Get one , you wont regret it,
How is the pad sensitivity/responsiveness on the Sample Pad Pro? Any problem with pad cross talk (adjacent pads triggering inadvertently)? Thanks.
'hi cowbell, low cowbell, hi cowbell, low cowbell....bit odd' hahaha great vid!
Great and thorough explanation, Mike. I have a Sample Pad and have been thinking of upgrading to the Sample Pad Pro. Your review was very helpful. Thanks, man! -Marc
you all probably dont give a damn but does any of you know a method to get back into an Instagram account?? I was dumb lost the login password. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me!
@Eli Edwin Instablaster ;)
@Yahir Rohan thanks for your reply. I found the site through google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff now. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Yahir Rohan it did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. Im so happy! Thanks so much you saved my account :D
@Eli Edwin No problem :D
Wow! Thx for the intensive explanation. I was looking for this info... and you gave it all. Thx!
excellent run through of the sample pad pro, thanks!
