Fantastic!! So appreciate d
Very useful seeing how a hastings stay works :) my home tower St Marys Nantwich uses the same type of stay but never seen close up on how it works
@@georgebasford1999 How bizarre - we had a couple of ringers visit who rang at Nantwich!
@harrybellringer ahh
We couldn’t do midnight ring bc there would be 3 of us but we rang at quarter past 6 to quarter past 7 I’m guessing they’re ringing 3,4,6,7,8
Nice sounding bells :)
@@georgebasford1999 They are. 1908 Taylor’s
@harrybellringer wouldn't mind visiting these if im ever in the area :)
@ Our door is always open to visitors, just let me know if you want to follow up on it in the future and I can give you my email.
@harrybellringer sounds like a plan :)
6 and 7 sound odd together
@Ringerjay2 Why?
We did it at Ashover with 8 and 9 since they’re 18cwts E it sounded odd especially when they were surrounding the tenor the slider knocked its self out so the 2 surrounding it had to come down it wasn’t nice 10 bells 18cwts E
I would be inclined to disagree - they're still a note apart so it sounds fine
@harrybellringer 6 and 7 sound fine, it doesnt sound that strange tbh.
@Ringerjay2 6 and 7 would be like 7 and 8 of an 8 in F#. So it doesn’t sound weird. If it was something like 5 and 6 then it would because it would be in minor key
Good video this is :)
what does it do😹
I’m surprised that even though it’s now in art centre they still ring the bells.
You are very lucky you got to ring these :), the striking was really really good in this clip 😀
I really like the half muffled sound, beautiful 🛎🛎🛎
We had the same problem at campsall the 4th muffle was on the wrong side. We had to ring it opposite stroke!
@@Coreytheringer2345 I just flipped the clapper so it was up wrong
Oh ok
We had same problem at the crooked spire 18th December for funeral ringing of a fellow ringer it bell 8 the muffle slipped and they put it on wrong so we put it back on the right side which meant ringing the bell down
These bells sound beautiful
Id love to ring here they sound gorgeous!
We did call changes on ten and plain hunt on 7 at chesterfield crooked spire
call changes
@@wereswdfgrdesd Yes I do know that strangely because I was calling them!! Got nowt better to do?
Sounds like 468 of swaffham
Why is the trapdoor open? It sounds quite loud!
@@Coreytheringer2345 We’d just been in the belfry and wanted to try it out - get a feel for the tenors boom. Also we’d just been up there cleaning.
Excellent bells - well worth the effort 💪
Im guessing its loud because of the way your shouting. Lovely bells though
Only because we had the trap door open to the bells - we’d just been put there and wanted to see what it was like with it open
They go so well
@@Owentheringer2025_yt Some of them can be tricky due to their odd-struckness. Also tricky for those who aren’t used to holding up for so long on the front bells! Overall though they are the easily my favorite bells in the world!
The former home of a ring of twelve!
@@tittums At Ainderby?!?
Ah I see, you mean Mark Place’s mini ring
@@harrybellringer Which I now have!
I ring on similar bells on a Monday night
This gives me goosebumps
You're lucky to get to ring here!
I've rung here
upwrong
@@PlainBobMinor16 Nope it isn’t
Nice
Lovely Taylor 10 Yorkshire is absolutely spoilt for good 8s. Howden, Skipton, Tadcaster to name a few, and of course in my opinion the best sounding bells are Yorkminster, the sound of heaven. The belfry looks very well kept at Northallerton, and bright too.
@@Steven_Rowe Northallerton is a brilliant tower, and I’m very lucky to have been taught here! They go exceptionally and are crystal clear in the Ringing room
There seems plenty of room to build the frame on one level. Has it been locally modified to fit around a staircase? Some of the fittings look a bit "local" and the rope circle is odd....
I’ll have to pass on that one. Not a local here so don’t know much about the history of the tower. The only reason I could think of for a 2 tier frame here is to account for the staircase. However, there is a second staircase, which is spiral, which you may be able to see the door of when I’m walking up to the bottom tier bells.

Nice ringing!
Have you ever done a peal, Harry?

@@harrybellringerwhen did you start ringing ?
@@Ollie28188 7 Years ago
@@harrybellringer have you ever rung at Cradley, Rowley Regis, Halesowen or Stourbridge in the West Midlands?
@@Ollie28188 Nope, would like to ring at Stourbridge though!
How you manage to pull this off? lol almost impossible to get to ring these. I hear they really easy to ring i assume the bells are straight above the ringing chamber ceiling here?
@@srwilson3s2k14 The Northallerton band were invited by the Westminster Abbey company in 2020, but due to Covid restrictions we couldn’t go, nor in 2021 or 2022 (due to train strikes). They go relatively well, audibly tricky round the front, but they are good bells!
@@harrybellringer ah very nice good stuff. I think the bells are straight above thr ringing chamber behind the clock dials.
These sound difficult to strike.
@@RingerOliver59 Yes they are, and that’s partly down to the fact that they are 2 rings of 3 put together. The weights are a little all over. The 4th is the lightest bell in the tower and the 3rd is the second heaviest
Wow, strange weights for the bells, but it's not as bad fawley where the 5th is heavier then the 6th (Tenor)
@@harrybellringer the oldest bell is the 4th tenor 9-3-23cwts trebles and 3rd are thomas mears and son 4th is unknown as well as the 5th tenor samuel smith
@@wereswdfgrdesd Yes I know that.
they sound remarkably similar to the sound of Daltons Bells at Dalton ST Marys apart from the Tenor
I heard that there also a separate 3 chimeing bells here
@@Coreytheringer2345 Yes they do, but they don’t swing and don’t really get used electronically. The clock is on the tenor bell of the 3 for the hour.
Why does this look so familiar? I've never been here.
What a lovely sound to hear 😍
Really enjoyed this quarter peal of me on the tenor! 😊
Well done Ashton 👏
Thank you
Well done you, you kept a steady beat at the back there, and that is a heavy tenor as far as im aware, I haven't seen boxes as high as that, we haven't got any high ones like that in our tower.
Well done, and were you using a smaller box?
@@RingerOliver59 Yes, for some time they’ve moved the boxes round, due to rope issues
@@harrybellringer and because there is no need for the tenor box to be as tall as it actually is!.... 😏
Well done !

Nice. Where did you get those floor mats?❤
Ixworth has got them mats aswell
@@danbeaman7434 I think they were locally made - not purchased from any specific bell company. I think they were made by an old ringer
Shame I couldn't make it.

nice layout, the very same as Bangor- Hopefully yours are a bit clearer inside !
Very good day and ringing. Thanks for organising!
Any time. It was fun to ring at both Whitby and Saltburn, two fine rings of bells!
Was a very nice lower considering how hard to strike they were!
P.S. thank you so much (to yourself and Fiona) for hosting me this weekend! It’s been a pleasure and it’s incredibly kind of you to let me stay 😁
Our pleasure Fran, you’re welcome any time
Have heard these are good 😊
Good, yes, but by no stretch of the imagination easy!
They are just as loud and clear in the ringing room as they sound on here! Smashing bells, rare grab!
I think these are the best version of d sharp 10.
