grade is supposed to be minimum 8" below the weep bead. water splashes up and will wick up the siding causing rot and mold eventually if it's not atleast that far down.
Is that a snow plow that was made into a mini bucket? You would be way better off just plowing the driveway with a straight blade. That looks painfully slow
I can’t wait to add your kit to my John Deere 316. I hope we can fabricate the necessary components to make everything work FOR WORK!
Awesome
Any plans for a 425-455 John Deere?
Not yet, but we’re actively looking for a 425-455 with a Quick Hitch Plow so we can see what design changes will be required to make our unit work with the newer John Deere plow design.
@@marric5525Thanks for the reply! What’s your location? I know another company makes a 318 plow conversion to 425-455 with 5/16th steel brackets bolted with 5/8 grade 5 bolts. Not sure if that’s the right route to go.
Thanks for the suggestion. We like to do our design work off of OEM equipment so we know it will fit and work properly with the other JD tractors out there. That was a lesson we learned the hard way early on with some of our first prototypes. What works on one series JD tractor doesn’t always work on the others. Marric Products is just outside the Philadelphia, PA area.
How thick is the bottom plate? The website references the 3/8" cutting edge, but how thick is the rest of the sheet metal? It looks like it's thinner than the plow blade itself.
The bucket sheet metal is made out of 12 gauge steel which is approximately 7/64”.
Do your attachments work with the new style quick hitch?
Sorry, we currently do not offer an attachment for the John Deere Quick Hitch, Yet! We know this is an important market for us, and the John Deere Quick Hitch offers advantages that the older John Deere 54 Plow does not. Unfortunately we do not have an estimated date as to when we would have a Plow Conversion System for the John Deere Quick Hitch. Thank you for the question!
Do you have a toothbar for your normal bucket?
Thanks for the question, we will be launching our tooth bar by the end of September at www.marricproducts.com. At the request of our customers, we built and tested a tooth bar. We were so pleasantly surprised at how well the tooth bar engaged the ground that we decided to offer it as a standard product. Our tooth bar has 7 high carbon steel 2” wide teeth. The tooth bar slides over the buckets cutting edge and is secured in place with two bolts that go through the sides of the wings and the edge of the bottom plate of the bucket. Let us know if you have any questions.
Will this work for the 300 series as well? I'm thinking it should with the 54 blade!
Hi Steven, yes this works with the 300 series as well. You can use the stock single hydraulic lift, or upgrade to our dual hydraulic lift for increased lift capacity. Check us out at www.marricproducts.com for more information.
I like this idea a lot I have a 445 for the 54 inch blade do you run 26 in the back and 16s in the front instead of the 23/16 or 26/18 set up? I feel like my front end barely comes off the ground when you back drag it seems to be pretty far off the ground
I guess after watching further the custom bucket probably plays a big factor in that
Thanks kevkayla11, The stock JD pivot bracket was replaced with a custom made unit that slides over the lift frame. In this unit, the height of the plow was raised and the hydraulic cylinders relocated. You can see and exploded view on our website www.marricproducts.com. As far as tires go, they're 26/18 which is enough dump clearance for the 12" deep bucket. The 300 with the tiller seen in the video has 23/16 and actually has more dump clearance than the 400.
Keep up the great ideas on your plow mods! Is there a link to that grapple kit?
Thanks Sparta! We have two other videos, "John Deere 54 Plow Grapple Part 1", and "....Part 2" that show a little more footage and steps through a bit of the build. We don't have the grapple offered on our website www.MARRICPRODUCTS.com simply because there are some subtle differences between the JD moldboards. Several people have reached out to us to build one for their JD plows. Once we determine we have designs to accommodate all the moldboard variations we'll offer it as a standard product. But for now it's custom builds only. Thanks for watching and keep an eye out for some new products we're currently working on.
I like it.

Fresh Ashin, check out our website at www.marricproducts.com. Pallet forks aren't available, but we have a lower cost solution with the same functionality coming soon!
I like it.
I bought a 430 diesel last fall and spent the winter refurbishing it. Didn't realize the $$$$ It is complete with a 3 point and rear PTO that I almost gave up trying to find! I just finished cutting 30 plus trees out of a tree line today. They ranged in size from 4" to 12" and up to 40' tall. I skidded every one of them whole without limbing up to where I cut wood. A lot of them got hung in the other trees and the 430 ripped them off the stumps and I just kept going. Amazing torque! Going to build a FEL this winter now that I am into it! I may have displaced some poor squirrels...
Thanks for the heads up on the $$$$! 430 is definitely on my wish list, low on the wish list because of my lack of knowledge on diesel engines.... and not to mention room in the garage. Looking for a good 140 H3 now so I can test out the capabilities of my mini-loader on a smaller frame. Enjoy that beast!
Hey @Marric is that a home made loader (I'm sure it is) Any close ups of that? I was just about to embark on the same idea.
Hi Doug, The mini loader in this video was one of our early prototypes. You can visit www.marricproducts.com for the latest version and see our attachments. If you haven’t had a chance, check out some of our other videos on TH-cam, such as our latest post, “John Deere 54 Plow Converted Root Bucket Grapple.” This video will demonstrate the systems flexibility of being more than just a loader. If you have some DIY skills, access to some CNC equipment, welder and CAD you could design and build your own, but I will caution you that it was a lot of work and time to get it to the level it is today. We developed this attachment to be expandable to allow end users a low cost of entry by reusing components from your existing John Deere 54 plow, with the option of adding capacity later as your needs grow. Thanks for the question, and feel free to email us at customerservice@marricproducts.com for any questions regarding our Plow Conversion System.
This guy's terrible at this job why don't you just dump it instead of putting the loader on the ground then trying to tilt it you can tell he don't know what he's doing
This Yankee doesn't know how to use his front end loader
Guess you guys get a lot of snow in the south then eh?
Congrats on bringing this to market!
Thanks! Hopefully it's value is apparent to our John Deere friends.
My question is this, and maybe your fabrication will answer this, but if there aren't any more of the front hitch kits like this available (i think you said model 54), where are we going to get one?
Hi Aric, The conversion kit in the video started out as a the older style John Deere 54 Plow, which are still readily available used. I saw one in my area for $400 and included the angle hydraulic ram. From there, you simply disassemble and slide on the new conversion kit. Currently this design will not fit on the John Deere Quick Hitch version. But that is a design I'm very interested in because it will retain the angling capability! So with one system, you'll be able to lift, curl, dump and angle, and have the ability to swap out attachments. The website is just about done which will have more information, and I'm ordering production parts for a delivery at the end of March. Hope this info helps. Send me an email if you need more info. Thanks!
@@marric5525 i saw this as a brand new item from John Deere BM26236 $795 brand new. It doesn't include the blade but yep ouch! that's it. It's just the front not 54 style quick attach lift with power angle style part.
You should market this stuff
Soon!!! Working on the finishing touches now.
@@marric5525 I'm buying a 317. It has the dual hydraulics on the front, and same tilt lift mechanism as yours. What all do i need to get to have it lift and tilt like yours?
Snail me mykids32@gmail.com
As long as you have the older style JD 54 Plow it will slide right on. It will not fit the JD Quick Hitch. The only thing I have to do on my JD 300 is the front metal bumper has to be unbolted if I want run dual hydraulic lift rams. My JD 400 has clearance to run dual lift rams. I'll send you an email with more details. I'll talk to my web designer to see if we're launching this week. That will give you more info on how it works and assembles.
@@marric5525 do you use the same cylinders just 2 each or a whole new cylinder?
I love your inventions and your awesome ideas. I was thinking a small landscape rake or something on there and you could windrow leaves maybe.
Thanks Aric for your comments. Just about anything is possible with this design to mount to the front. I'd like to see a landscape rake on the front too, and be curious to how it works. For leaves I was thinking of a simple right angle plate to mount one of those big HP leaf blowers. Thanks again!
Use a front blade instead, you will be glad ya did. This is far too time consuming and just slow.
Agreed! Snow plow is way more efficient at moving snow. I think I would have needed a V-plow to push through that wet snow. I don’t think my JD 400 would’ve made it through with the standard 54 angle plow. We only get a couple snows per year of any significant accumulation… and by significant I mean 8 inches! I know the northern neighbors are probably laughing at 8 inches. So basically the mini loader mechanism stays attached to the tractor 365 to handle other non-snow related jobs. But I can’t pass up an opportunity to play in the snow and test out my mini loader bucket design. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I love your mini loader, im gonna attempt at building my own for my 400. Looks like you used the factory plow bracket and extended it a foot or so, and added 2 extra hydraulic cylinders... any other pointers? I'm planning on using only the 2 that I have, but my bucket is only going to be 48", and shallower than yours too. Looks like yours may be around 16-18" deep? I'm thinking mines only gonna be about a foot or so. Either way, thanks for sharing the videos, I never even thought of plowing leafs with a blade before, and now my neighbor thinks I'm a genious, I helped her clean up leafs she had that were 4-6" deep In her yard that she was attempting to rake. Took us only about 4 hours from start to finish. Luckily I own a dump trailer too, and we just plowed them on in.
Thanks Rob, it’s a really handy tool. You are correct, I started with the JD 54 plow and reconfigured the lift and angle cylinders. I did double up on the hydraulics to give it more lift and roll capability. The original prototype only had one set of hydraulic cylinders, it does work, but the additional capability is convenient. Overall it’s about seven inches longer than the original plow mount. One of the nice feature about this design is minimal modification to the JD plow, six holes drilled in the JD moldboard and removal of the spring anchor for the manual angle lock assembly (the top of the cotter pin that protrudes out the top of the A-frame). I have a lot of time invested in the design and prototyping of the unit to keep it compact, while still generating enough lift height to completely dump the 13+ inch bucket. Also, being compact keeps the buckets center of gravity closer to the front axle reducing the tendency of lifting the rear of the tractor. As far as pointers for making your own, I’ll be selling them at the end summer 2019, buy one! I’ll be offering several options, from base units with no hydraulics, and no bucket conversion components for the DIY’r who wants to keep their initial cost low and add-on later to meet their needs, to full blown ready to install kit options with dual hydraulics, manifolds, hydraulic hoses with fittings and bucket conversion kit with hardware. But if you’re DIY’r and still not convinced to buy, plan on lots of time designing, machining and welding. If you don’t have the capability to do the machining and welding yourself, or a friend who can, you’ll pay a lot more at a machine shop than what I’ll be charging. The unit in the video was my third prototype.
Marric that's awesome that you're going to make money on this. I see you have a lot of interest in these just from TH-cam alone, and I bet if you advertise right, you'll do well on these. You're designing for the newer tractors too right??? Those guys will suck these things up, especially the 4x4 guys with the big x700 series. It's a great design and I wish you all the best. Shoot me something in the email once you get closer to selling, and I'll spread the word with my garden tractor buds. robert_smithii@yahoo.com
Marric and I'm liking that you took all the brain work out of it too if you do sell kits this year, please put me on the list. I'm very interested.
Thanks for the encouragement and support! I’ll definitely give you an email once I have the website up and units to sell. The first set of production units is scheduled to be completed by early May. If testing goes well, I’ll place an order for larger quantities to sell around the end of August. The unit in the video is designed to fit the legacy JD tractors from 140 to 400’s. My plan is to focus on the new JD models shortly after I launch the legacy version. This new version will have some additional features that the legacy model does not, and I think it will be a game changer. While also continuing to support the growth of the legacy model with various attachments like the fork lift, rock rake and grapple for example. Thanks again!
where did you get that bucket and what do you need to make it work?
I used my JD 54 plow and made an attachment that replaces the JD pivot and allows me to tilt the bucket forward and backward. I reoriented the existing JD hydraulic cylinders to achieve the rotation, and added two more to increase the lift and roll force. The bucket is simply the JD moldboard with a bottom and 2 sides bolted to it. To me, this configuration has a lot more utility than the plow. Everything is bolted on so I can go back to the stock plow if ever needed, except for the 6 holes I drilled in the moldboard.
@@marric5525 im not as crafty as you but I sure like your rig! I have the mower and want a bucket like that but need to buy it from someone and really liked yours. Thanks for the reply
If you have the older style JD plow on your 120 to 400 series then this will slip right over the lift frame. I'm currently in the process of having a couple production units manufactured and will hopefully be testing them on my JD's in a couple months. If all goes well, then production units a few months after that. Check back in August and I will have info for a website. I don't think it will fit on the newer JD Quick Hitch, but I've never tried. The Quick Hitch will be the next project.
I would love to see some type of plan to build one of your mini loaders?
It's a snowplow with sides and a floor for a "bucket"
Much better! Love to see some close up videos of your blade/loader...
Great job!
NIce work. DO you have a video of the loader design?
Thanks! I haven't shot any video focusing just on the mechanism. When I'm done the next laser cut version I'll do some closer detail shots. That version will be production ready design... worth some close-up shots.
@@marric5525 I need one for my 400
I'm hoping to have the first fully fabricated unit by the end of December to test out the latest design enhancements. If all goes well, I'll share a video and how to get your hands on one. If you already have the JD 54 plow, not the JD Quick Hitch version, it simply slides on over the JD frame, no cutting or welding. Once you're done you can put it back to OEM, but honestly, once mounted it will probably never come off. Mine is on at all times. Check out my other video "John Deere 400 Mini-Loader with Pallet Fork Attachment Lifting Fallen Branch" to see how quickly you can change between attachments.
@@marric5525 Any news on your progress? I really want to build something with what I have... The same setup you started with
Hi William, Things are progressing, at a snails pace! I had my first two production units built and they look and work great. I’m currently testing out the design and putting it through some abuse testing, so far so good. I hired a web designer so that is moving forward as well, and will be ready for when my first units arrive. I’ll be placing a production order for saleable units by the end of October, which will be available the end of December 2019. I’ll try to shoot some new video of the production unit in a couple weeks when my new root bucket is delivered! I’m looking forward to tearing up some stuff with that!
I would like to know where you bought those attachments. If you don't mind please email me. With price if you could please. Thank you for your time.
I made them out of a JD 54 plow. I removed the plow and springs from the JD frame and attached the plow to my own mechanism. The one in the video was my third prototype. I think I have all the bugs worked out. The next one I'm building will be for my JD 300, which require a couple more inches of lift to dump the bucket, since the wheels are not as tall as the 400's. Sorry, I don't know how to email you from TH-cam.
Are these John Deere brand accessories? I have never seen these, and if you don't mind, do you know of their prices? Thanks in advance!!
No, I converted my JD 54 plow into a mini-loader to help move stuff around the yard. One thing led to another and I made the fork attachment... to move other stuff around, then a trash can lift. I have some other attachments in the works and some still on the drawing board. There are other mini-loader attachments available but, I have not seen any as versatile. Thanks for watching!
Need to get like 300 lbs in suit case weights on the back there buddy and some AG tires make a huge difference you will think your on a different tractor lol... i live in PA and have a 180’ foot drive and asphalt and 300 lbs on the back and AG tires and drive is up hill a fair amount and never needed in 20 yrs chains no matter how much snow we get,,, i also have the JD cast iron wheel weights on there...
Thanks for the confirmation on the AG tires and weights. I built a ballast box out of some left over steel. I used rectangular cinder blocks from Home Depot, they're 16X8X4" and weigh just over 30# each, I use 10 of them, and they're only $1.50 each! Between the frame and the blocks it's over 350#. Pretty crude compared to a 3pt hitch and JD suitcase weights. I'm hoping to get some snow so I can test it out and upload a new video... hopefully redeem myself.
Nice video! Gotta say, that 400 is super versatile, the amount of lifting power it has is crazy, i used the rear 3pt on mine to lift out fence posts that were probably 5 ft in the ground. That branch was nothing to it lol. Have you thought about selling these to people? You'd probably make quite a bit of money off of them. Especially with that nifty quick tach system you've got. Looks like you need to build you a weight bracket for the rear. I hope to be able to get some Ags for mine sometime this winter, along with build a weight bracket to fit atleast 2 75lb AC weights on it.
I'm glad you liked the video. 3pt is on the wish list, along with a set of Carlisle Tru Power. I’ve been watching ebay for a set of rims, but they aren’t cheap. Between the AG tires and rims, it’s more than I paid for the tractor. Did you think about making a weight box for your 3pt? Just throw a few bags of sand it. The 3pt with JD suitcase weights does look nice hanging off the back!I am working on tooling to make a production intent unit. The next unit will have more ground clearance and increased rollback on the bucket. Plus, some other enhancements that I learned from the prototypes. Once I get things aligned, I'll setup a website to sell them. The unit in the video was the third prototype. The quick attachment was luck. But now I’ve found so many more uses for it, I can’t keep up with making prototypes of all them. I came up with a new one a few weeks ago, a simple S shaped bracket to pick up the trash can. Instead of dragging the trash can around the yard, drive your JD up to it, pick it up and drive it where you want…. I sound really lazy!! Hydraulics makes everything easier! Save your energy and get more work done! I’ll post a video of it shortly. Thanks for feedback.
I'm in a toss up between the weight box and the bracket, ill have to do some thinking about it lol. I cant wait to see these attachments out for sale, do you have a ballpark estimate of the price? Lol, that trash can idea is a good one, no sense in dragging em up with your hands when you've got hydraulics! I'm not going to get a set of rims for ags, ill just leave mine on all the time, because as long as its not super wet when your mowing, they shouldn't tear up the yard that bad (hopefully lol). Also, what about making them for other models, like 318s? Only drawback is they are H2 i believe. Have you thought about making a grapple-bucket? That would be really useful.
yMy tires are tubed, so the integrity of those old rims are suspect, besides a second set would be nice $$$, even if it they are used/ new to me! I haven’t thought of a sales price yet, but a ballpark…. less than some of the other systems out there. The concept with this design is that it utilizes the original JD plow components, just slightly reconfigured and replaces the JD plow tilt and pivot mechanism with the mechanism shown in the video. Thus, by having the half the components, and a little DIY, you don’t need to buy as much. Plus, it works better too! The plow bracket on the JD 400 is the same as the one on the 300 series. The frame mounting bracket is slightly wider for the larger machine frames. So this unit works on the 140, 300 series. I should be ready by summer to mount the next generation design to my JD 300. I’ll take a step by step video of that process to show how easy it is to change over. Once you change it over, you’ll never switch back. As far as a grapple-bucket, yes it can be done.
If you don't mind me asking, are those snow plow cylinders on the front door bucket tilt?
Yes, I “borrowed” a hydraulic cylinder from my JD 300. Apparently they are all the same size which was very convenient. Unfortunately, the previous owner of the JD 400 replaced a damaged plow cylinder with a rock shaft cylinder. Not knowing any better I thought that was stock and designed everything around the wrong hydraulic cylinder, woops! A couple prototypes later this is what I came up with.
Looked like your tire pressure was way too high. Lower the rear pressure and it'll help with traction some. Bigger tire "foot print" equals more contact with the road. Salting like you said would've helped too. Along with better tires. Understandable not wanting to use chains. They make an alternative for chains, not sure what they are called or made of, but they do the same thing. I suspect they would be safe for your black top drive way. Still is a helluva lot better than not having the capability you have. I need something like this for my 425. Nice video.
Rookie mistake! Rode 3 wheelers and quads for years and always aired down in the snow. Thanks for reminding me! Superior-Tech sells the rubber chains. I saw some videos and looks like they work well. The bucket works good, finding more uses for it all the time. Great for turning over my compost pile. I'll put a video up of that soon.
Awesome video. it did very well even in wet snow! I have the blade and snowblower but we didnt have any snow this year to use them in. From the looks of it you need some tire chains. I have some and they are a night and day difference in traction on all surfaces.
Mild winter here too, I’m not complaining! This was the only snow even worth shoveling. I have chains but I heard they can tear up the driveway.
That could be true, especially if your slipping. I have a gravel driveway and it doesnt do much, but im sure they arent good on pavement, but you never know if you dont try lol.
I have JD400 and am looking for a mini loader like that one. Can you provide me some information on it as I have looked all over and cannot seem to find anything. Any help would be appreciated.
Sorry I should’ve put in the title that it was a DIY Mini-Loader. I searched and continue to search the web for something like it. I know there are other systems out there, but none work this way. The design is similar to that of a wheel loader. The one in the videos is the second prototype. I’m very impressed with how it performs… considering I made it in my garage! A set of AG tires and weights strapped to the back of the 400 will really show its potential.I’m still a ways off from making this prototype into a production product. If there is enough interest from the viewers, maybe it will push me to do something within the next 6 to 12 months. I have some other useful attachments that I have in the works that will definitely set it apart from the other systems out there. Thanks for asking.
Thanks for the reply. Well when your finished with the others I would like top see them.
Cajun Camp I build them. not as nice as his, but its very cost effective the way I do it. I would love to see how his was done, up close.
I have a JD 400 and was wondering if I could get information on what type of loader that is as I want to get one for my tractor. Any information would be helpful.
loooks homemade from a front blade!
Love both machines, do you use the 400 for anything other than the mini loader? That mini loader is like the best tool ever. Did you get any footage of the 300?
I have the deck for the 400 but it needs some work. The 300 came with a brand new 54 inch deck. I got the plow, and rototiller but it was missing the lift arm so I fabricated one from a drawing and pictures I saw on the net. I feel bad for the 300 since it rarely gets out of the garage to play, and no video time either, LOL! Maybe I'll convert the 300's plow to min loader so it gets some play time. When I put in the new garden I'll get some video of the 300 tearing it up.
Haha, my 400s deck is pretty iffy aswell, I did not know the 300s were capable of such a large deck! I think that 300 would be unstoppable with a mini loader on it.
old JD 400 power. I will be getting a snow plow for my JD 400 in a week ,I will try to make a video of picking the plow up
Awesome man great idea! You deserve more subscribers as you really are the only one that puts up 400 videos besides me, and my videos suck!
Any excuse to use some hydraulic power.... count me in! It actually worked. Ripping it in two directions made it much easier to shovel out the new mulch bed.
Pretty cool man! I have a 400 too and always thought of doing something like this.
Thanks! It's super handy and I can always go back to my plow if I need to.... but it's too much fun lifting stuff up and dumping it! Low budget mini-loader rocks!
