Is wood glue and sawdust the cure all for gaps?
I think craftsmen are doing a disservice to new people by telling them to use wood glue and sawdust for invisible patches.
I think the woodworker community needs to do better. Tell me how you feel in the comments lets test more ways to fill gaps!

Quick first video making board butter.
If I got got openings or cracks I’ll find a wedge the matches the grain and just glue tap it in let dry then plane and sand
@stevegagnon9451 yup that's my preferred method as well. If the grain and coloring matches well enough it just disappears.
I don't think it is because it doesn't take stain the same way. Cutting boards with very thin/small cracks it does ok. Anything big it just doesn't work the way I want it to. Other stuff though I try to not use that at all.
@WoodworkingWarrior I think it could have its uses. I can't think of a time I've ever had success with it to be honest. Maybe some do and I've just not tried it in the right situation though 🤔. Perhaps I should try small gaps and see if the results are any better. I prefer to use little shims if at all possible. In my experience it has a much better success rate.
I agree with you , the only time I use it is in small cracks or mitered joints that aren’t perfect. They lie lol looks like your shop is same size as mine. Good stuff .
@@stevegagnon9451 Small shop clan 👊! I've not thought of using it in miters. That's interesting. Does it affect stain/finish color at all for you?
@ not really ,sometimes the miter is slightly off so I just fill it with the dust and glue and run a hard surface like a screw driver over the corner to work it in then sand .
@@ElegantWoodcraft I also started a TH-cam channel it’s really new but I’ll be posting more in time . I do a lot with construction grade material which isn’t warped or twisted . I get good results. I am lucky to be able to get free lumber like cherry oak and maple that I cut down and only pay to have it milled which costs nothing lol I have loads drying which should be good in the spring to start projects like my dressers, and live edge kitchen table etc …
@stevegagnon9451 I guess I've done the glue and burnishing trick a bunch of times I just didn't really put it in the same category. Though I reckon you are right it is essentially the same. As for your channel that is awesome! I'd love to watch you build some furniture! I really enjoy watching people create things and it inspires me to do more. Not to mention there is always some trick or something to learn from everyone! I'll definitely check you out and great job on securing that lumber!

Yes...YT lies......I take your data over Anybody else!
I appreciate that Alex! I am open to being wrong but I don't think I am in this case. I will happily test any suggestions and methods. That is the only way you can get viable data.
Great test🪵
I appreciate that! Thank you!
👍
Appreciate you Cleveland!

DAN.....I watched and learned something. Great job....and yes Indropped a like and watched the hole clip. You need help building a snow man???..
I definitely need help building a giant snowman! Lets go!! Alex Very much appreciated bud thank you.
Awesome short brother💪💪💪💪
Thank you good sir!
If you can drill/route the scratch up. Fill it with a Dowl of same material or a sliver of same type wood, as tight as possible glue or hammer it in, after it dries, then a light sand. For that test its best in natural state where you dont stain it. Since no Glue or putty will absorb the stain the same as the original wood😎👊 on to the next, scientific test 💪
Yes sir! I rather Like the testing!
Edited my comment, to also answer your questions 👍 on how i would tackle it thank god for editing button, because apparently i cant spell 😂@@ElegantWoodcraft
@@VikeFishing yes i agree wedges or strips or some other type of material is the only way to fix a gap or crack if you are trying to hide it. I am glad someone understands that glues don't absorb stain!
watching now 👍
The man 👊. Thank you sir
Just subscribed heck yeah bro

Dang brother, on your way up. Congrats man, that’s awesome 👏
@waynecreech3136 Thanks Wayne 👊. Appreciate you stopping by bud!
Nice work! That view count is bonkers good, keep doing you. 😻
@Jeanelle_Art Thanks Jeanelle! It was definitely mind blowing.
@ElegantWoodcraft I see Ask attached to this video. You can quiz it about why the views were throttled. Turns out TH-cam didn't want to burden their servers. 🫤
@Jeanelle_Art from what I seen they limit viewers between 50 and 1000 subscribers to "prevent the spread of harmful content" Oh well it only happened one day so I reckon if this is what they do it's what they do. Can't change it so I'll just enjoy seeing the pop up 😂
4.6k views 😎 thats freaking awsome brother🥳 you the man!!! Keep the lives coming
@VikeFishing right Vike! Mind blowing numbers for one of my lives! Thanks for watching man I really appreciate it 👊
