Cowards come in all languages

If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart.

It has happened to me so many times! As a french Canadian, I speak both French and English, but so many people really think Quebec people are not bilingual or they think that I'm from France. I remember being seated at the table in the lobby of this great resort in Cuba with my family having a drink and chilling. At the table next to us, a group of tourists from Vancouver were talking with the travelling company guy about the trips available at the resort. The man asked them if they had any special requests for the trip they just booked with him and one of the woman said" Everything is fine as long as we're not with french Canadians"... 😮 The group started to laugh, including the travelling guy. I turned around and said:" Don't worry, we don't want to be next to you either, we have a nose." She paled including the travelling guy and said she wasn't talking about us. Then they just left. Anyway I got my revenge, it happens that I speak Spanish too so the next day, I told the bartender next to the pool and one of the waitress at the buffet that the group were talking smack about Cubans in English. Their got ignored all week long 😂

Ive had this experience quite a few times in my life actually. Im half black/half Mexican and grew up in a 95% Hispanic town (primarly Mexicans) so naturally I dealt with some degree of racism growing up. (nothing too bad, I was accepted for the most part and had plenty of friends) They never expect me to speak Spanish. (im very light skin but I have a lot of black features) And heck, people don't even expect my mom to speak Spanish either. Although she's full Mexican, she literally looks white, so she's had this experience at her job many times. (probably because she has a lot of Spanish blood in her?) I can't imagine growing up in Socal NOT speaking Spanish.

I caught a kid talking badly at my little brother and when I was right there the kid said “stupido” pointing to my little brother meaning stupid but little did that kid know is my family speaks Spainish,Italian,and Napoletano

No matter what, even when i don't understand what they're talking about i still can read body language and expressions so i always let people know "whatever it is you've got to say, say it in English instead of being a coward". It always seems to be a punk thing to do when you're too scared to say something to someone's face. It let's me know they won't do shxt but talk shxt. 🥱🤷🏻‍♀️😭

i was running through a park in tokyo and i heard these 2 guys who were sitting on a bench talking about me and i just stopped infront of them, turned my head towars them and said "あなたは今真剣ですか" (are you serious right now?) and they both just froze and then ran up to me to talk with me and they looked flabbergasted

While in Walmart I and a Hispanic woman and her daughter were in an aisle looking at the same item. I went to grab it but before I did I said excuse me. In some way that must have offended the mother and she dropped her mouth and looked at her daughter. Her daughter then said in Spanish “what do you expect? She’s a nigger” I froze and stared at the daughter stunned. I just stared at her until she got the hint that I understood what just happened and they left the aisle. Edit for grammar.

I'm a black woman who lives in Southern California who learned Spanish in high school. there's been a good number of times I caught people talking smack about me in Spanish. Even racist stuff. I *always* call them out in Spanish and remind them that there's a lot of black people who speak Spanish also. Being able to speak multiple languages is a wonderful thing but that doesn't make it okay to be an asshole. And remember, if someone talks to you in English and then talks to someone next to them while switching over to another language then there's a 90% chance they are talking shit.

Rules 1.) Never expect that your native language/s isn't /aren't spoken anywhere else then the places you are aware off / used too. 2.) Have some common manners towards people you judge as of foreign decent or even have credit that they are like tourists and co. 3.) Learn languages "you don't look like" you would speak and you've free plattform full of these, I suppose if only the struggle with this self dicinpline wouldn't be. Am I right langauge obsessed familiy? (used it becaue it rhymed)

I was speaking Singheili(Covenant language from Halo) with my little brother cause we're geeks for Halo and we had an old lady in Walmart asking us to go back to where we are from and telling us that America is an English language place only. And then after we told her what we were doing she suddenly had a story about how she's from Mexico and her husband got deported or something. Like tf lol.

This is why I never expose the fact I could speak another language. You can read minds and learn peoples true intentions.

I have always loved Norway and I don’t know why so I started learning Norwegian at 10 my family then announced we were going to Norway(when I was 14) and I was exhilarated we arrived and were staying for 2 weeks we arrived at a nice hotel to spend the first two nights in and then we planned on renting an air bnb or little house for a while so we unpacked and I realized I left my phone in the car so I walked back to get it and then hear one of the receptionists at the desk say “Kall utrydderen en stor rotte som nettopp gikk forbi” which means call the exterminator a big rat just walked by. Which ngl kinda hurt but then I said back “du er ikke mye modell selv” say that he wasn’t much of a model himself he stood still shocked and hid in embarrassment I ended up reporting him and saw him being yelled at and then he was fired (I know that was very long but it felt amazing to me)

My story was the most awful, awkward, regret and painful moment to tell to you guys. I was hiking with my 2 idiot friends on a mountain and that place was a favourite tourist spot in my country. At first, both of my stupid friends was talking about a monk hiking on the same place as we were at. That monk was wearing exactly like a monk clothing, bald head, wearing spectacles and my 2 idiot friends was expected him originally from Mainland China. The dialogue conversation that these idiots used to speak really near to the monk which i will translated their conversation and they were totally sound like this.. A: What in the hell this bloody monk was doing around here hiking on this f*cking mountain. B: I don't know. Maybe, he seeks for peace. Searching for his God in this wonderful forest. A: Peace my a**, you gotta be kidding me. He need to go to the temple or otherwise I will lift him and throw him fall off this cliff. Me: You both better shut your mouth and not to curse people. If he find out what you have just said, bad luck both of you guys, Good Luck. (These idiots laugh so hard until the monk started to look at both of them) Me: See, he understood what you guys said just now A: No, he wouldn't. Do you wanna try? B: Baldy bloody fool, ...... & ..... (Cursing so bad) See, nothing happened. A: What are you looking at, baldy? .....& ...... (Cursing too hard) B: Yeah, don't make me strip off your clothes, baldy. Then suddenly, that particular monk started to smile to us and calling his other friends, speaking with them by using our native language fluently. And that moment they were totally f*cked up, owned, awkward moment ,too awful to describe and etc. Finally, they apologized to that monk, the monk reply with positive advice and totally regret of what they had just speak about him. So guys, don't ever curse, gossip or talk behind to a stranger with your own language.

Latinos are bad about speaking about someone in their face this happens to me and my husband a lot. Also it happens to my father in law that speaks Spanish but he looks Asian. I hope you Spanish people know Spanish is taught in many public schools in America don’t get caught saying something disrespectful…be nice 😊

bruh i could never understand the the NERVE to talk shit about ppl who dont understand your language to their face! i could speak somali,arabic,english, russian. and it never occurred to me to use that as leverage against ppl ,cause its foul and makes you look pussy asl.

so i'm indian, and i speak english, hindi, french and spanish fluently, so i went to a bakery in france, where they greeted me with a polite bonjour! i replied with bonjour too, but by my face she assumed i probably only speak my native language and said to her co-worker "ces étrangers désemparés ! hein, le simple fait de dire un mot ne les rend pas français par google translate" which is "these clueless foreigners! huh just saying one word doesn't make them french by google translating " i let her talk and ignored it because i knew exactly what to do, so i basically asked her for a tart she said, Oui! thinking i wouldn't understand but then i asked her for the total in french then she and her co worker more than stunned looked embarassed. truely th most memorable time in france, this is when my french classes paid off, mind you i'm in my 5th year

was in japan and i know some japanese some guy at a resturant whispered to his friend im ugly not knowing i understand i come up to him and say minikuinara naze anata no okāsan wa watashi o nagura seta nodesu ka? which means if im ugly why'd your mom let me hit?

I worked at a hardware store and lots of Spanish folks would come in, and they were usually chill, then one time 5-6 people came in. They were all talking in Spanish: “he’s quick and knowledgeable for a white boy, still white and ugly” so I respond in fluent Spanish: “at least I can see over the counter, have a good day” Felt kinda bad but they had it coming lol.

I am a petite white woman, and I do not speak any Asian languages, but I am pretty sure that every time I go to a nail salon, they are saying very bad things about me. ☹️. I can tell from their nonverbal cues. I ignore it, because what else can I do?

Well here’s mine- I speak German, though it is not my first language, I am still fluent in German. So one time I was in a store with my gf and we were dressed in short skirts, ripped fishnets, yk the works, and we were looking at some earrings when this lady and her daughter come next to us and also look at the earrings. I found some cute ones and aAs I was walking away, I hear this lady say to her daughter- “Schau dir diese Huren an! Du weißt, wenn du älter bist, ziehst du dich besser nicht so an!” “ *look at those whores! You know, when you are older you best not dress like that!* “ And her daughter said (she was maybe 14 or 15) “Mama, du solltest diese Dinge nicht sagen! sie konnten dich hören“ “ *Mom you shouldn’t say those things! They could hear you* ” To which her mom just basically said- (I don’t feel like translating The Whole thing so-) “No it’s fine they don’t understand” So I, who felt quite offended, turned around and told the mother, “Du solltest diese Dinge wirklich nicht sagen, denn diese Huren haben dich gehört” “ *you really shouldn’t say those things because these whores heard you* “ Y’all the look on her face! 🤣

I was born to American missionary parent in Brazil and lived there until I was 18. Once, when I was 15, we were in Rio at an amusement park. Mind you, this was 1986... so, my uncle and I were in a long line for a ride and spoke in English... and two guys behind me were commenting that my Nike shoes (which my dad brought from the US) were awesome and that a stupid gringo should never have them... We waited patiently, and at the front of the ride, I turned around and said in perfect Portuguese, "So guys, are you gonna mug me or can I offer you a price for them?" They immediately, after 20 minutes waiting in line, took off. LOL

This happened to me in Germany. I went swimming and someone looked at me then said to their friend in German trying to be clever something about swim,bad. Aha! I said you're saying I can't swim aren't you?! Little did they realise how fluent I am! Ha!

Spanish speaking people underestimate how many people understand what they are saying lol, The easiest Romance language to understand for any other Romance language speaker
