Quality Street chocolate large 2kg tin review
It's the Friday before Christmas and we went for it.
Fed up of buying small tins of quality street that don't last, I looked up the larger tins as I remembered them from the 80s and found a 2kg tin on Amazon for £30.
Looking back my mother used to spend £4.99 on a tin back in the late 70s early 80s.
If you look that's equivalent to £30 now, so the price hasn't changed in real terms.
The tin will be useful to keep toys or even work bits in of course and better than those plastic ones.
You get the raw unopening here.
First we find just a wrapper nothing else, I dig deep and find an unwrapped chocolate.
No little card thing explaining what each chocolate is.
Badly wrapped chocolates also and of course the notorious paper wrappers.
As close to an old school tin of quality street as we likely to get, but I did expect something a bit more special.
Is Christmas ruined, no, but there's a risk of my son biting into one, not liking it and asking for a different one.
You also get to see the little dog in the video

Self employed chat about walking away from toxic clients and jobs
มุมมอง 1K9 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
A chat from the van at break. A scenario where the client didn't really know what they wanted and has started to get a bit toxic. Late deposit paid, I returned the deposit and declined the job. Never be afraid to do that, as sometimes clients will carry on being more and more toxic and become draining. After years of experience I can spot them very quickly #toxiccustomers #selfemployed #selfemp...

Self employed chat about quoting for big jobs
มุมมอง 10114 วันที่ผ่านมา
A chat about quoting for big jobs and knowing when the job is that little bit too big for you and knowing the red flags from the start. In a nutshell a property management company sent me a specification of works that means paying out a few thousand at least and waiting a while for money. Sometimes these great opportunities aren't worth taking the risk on, on this occasion the people can't even...

Going through what to charge to make minimum wage Hopefully this helps new and established self employed understand what to charge. Keep it up. Well done!
Thank you, couldn't put the sparring itself up as other children there, but his first time sparring, against other who've trained for years and a second place
Dealing with women is a nightmare, they expect the world, and for next to free!!! 😂😂 no wonder the husband's have all left them
Might as well get one of these every year instead of buying three of the cheap plastic tubs. Also interestingly it's 1.936kg, this was the year that Quality Street first debuted!
@@Johnstone_Studios yup I just called it a 2kg tub, not as nice as previous years, probably would go Cadbury roses next year
@@Johnstone_Studios also agree better to get one big one than three small ones, nowadays there's celebrations, roses, heroes, quality street, Terry's chocolate ones, who knows how many more, so much choice now
Must have been £50
Lovely !
Beautiful to see & hear. Merry Christian Christmas.
@@MerryChristmas3 it was
I've shut down while 7th jan, phones off no business stuff whatsoever. Takes decades to smell a rat, i dint tolerate nonsense now.
@@LMGGPMG yes totally it takes a long time to work out the game plays and tricks they play, I'm similar to you,we need the time off
Yeah, I saw a chart somewhere that showed that you were getting less and less sweets . Apparently, between 2019 and 2021, the tubs faced a dramatic drop in weight, going from 720g to 650g. The number of sweets inside also fell from approximately 72 to 65. 2022 saw the tubs drop to 620g, while 2023 and 2024 saw a further decrease to 600g, with around 62 wrapped sweets inside. The quality of your larger tin seems so poor compared to how they were back in the 1980's. Like you say some of the sweets seem much smaller and poorly wrapped.
Smoking kills
I know, will be giving up again after next trip away, pointless before as I'll start again
Carpenter of 40yrs, if you smell a rat double the price, just a much politer way of saying fk off.
@@JI7NKJ yup totally
Your definitely entiled to do busnuiss how you deem fit, seems abit stiff though asking for full wack up front because of judgement on that initially 50. I charge 15% and labour money upfront, but being a builder i also understand it from a customers stand point where as people are abit understandably nervous about parting with cash after maybe only one brief meeting. But you could never rightly ask full wack up front i dont think you should have rather just said tou wernt willing to do it i think
@Steve-d5x8s yes I have them the choice, there were a few other factors in it as well, usually we 25% labour and materials up front, their choice of course
Good decision.
Short term gain for long term loss that one
@ thanks for the mention again!
Typical con man not a clue Just a good talker
@@EuhxfvVvvhgf indeed he was, luckily I saw through it very quickly
You should have 2 short vids - 1 per story. Will help with peoples attention span. In my mind there is animation of the interactions.. if only someone could make that as a vid as you narrate.
I really enjoyed listening - great vid.
@@jonesfitness3762 I'm glad you liked the video, I'll be doing another one today or tomorrow, hopefully it helps you
Very, interesting. Sounds like small is beautiful. How disgusting that they take 20% and don't respond to messages. How scary that someone like that can make you go bust through withholding payment too.
@@JohnEbrington-d7b indeed which is why I always do staged payments and deposits
@@exploringsuffolk yeah makes sense especially on a big job.
Great calm positive thinking. Gut feelings are very important too. Well done another great video and thanks for the mention.
@@JohnEbrington-d7b yes we learn off each other and adapt, calm and positive at all times and we will get there, let's keep it all going and moving bills paid my lad fed and provided for so he's ready to be a great adult and member of society
@@exploringsuffolk You have got your priorities right ! People get pushy and stressed this time of year and you are skilfully rising above it all. Have a great Christmas.
@JohnEbrington-d7b and you, many years of experience gave me the skills to do it and just want to pass the skills on, you only have to go to the shop or drive around to see how bad it's got
I love that comment about being the Dad you would have wanted as a kid yourself.
@@JohnEbrington-d7bthanks, before he was born I set out to give him the childhood that allows him to make the choices he wants to make in adulthood, if you knew what I went through you'd know why I have the outlook I have, break the chains of previous stuff and let the next generation soar rather than perpetuate what I went through, not easy but every day he says I love you dad, makes the struggle easy you know
@@exploringsuffolk That is great to hear and having been a Probation Officer it is music to my ears. Investing in our children's childhoods is definitely the way to go.
@JohnEbrington-d7b had someone invested in mine properly things would have been better for me, investing time in children being a role model, a father not a friend is what's needed, when our marriage went through a rocky patch we worked it out for him as hes better with both parents together and strong
I'm self-employed too. I shutdown the whole of Christmas and New Year. Last day 18th/19th Dec, come back Mon 6th Jan.
@@lodersracing yes it's the only way as self employed we need a break also, families want us around and downtime is vital for us
I've been self employed 22 years, I shut down a week before......no one messes me around with their nonsense now. I shall shut 18th and return 7th jan and my works sim will be off all that time as I've two sims. Like you we know how the stupidity starts.
@@LMGGPMG yes it's the only way now, the stupidity builds up and after 30 years of it, you just know when to not engage
@exploringsuffolk Goes like.....I'm off next two weeks mate I was wondering if you could fit me in, aye that sillyness ended years ago. BTW I'm a painter but cars 😀
@LMGGPMG yes I can imagine it's very similar in that respect, yeah I'm off with my family, so are we....
Well said mate, fantastic advise, those are the points i try to get across to people. Never going to be rich but the job satisfaction and pride in your job and yourself is worth it.
Yup never going to be rich but know your worth and do a good job, that's what being a tradesperson is all about
merry xmas to you and your family.
@@josephoconnor1785 and to you
In same boat as you. Hate this time of year, Debating money or family time/relaxing. Worse is bank holidays for me.
@@TomCushnie yes I go family each time but it's always awkward
Take a £500 deposit pal. They won't cancel lol
As a self employed mechanic i agree with your costings. I stopped doing cheap jobs, you get a reputation of being cheap and then only attract customers that don't value you and you loose the good customers as they think you are fitting cheap parts. I now make sure I'm a touch more expensive but take my time fixing someone's car, fitting better quality parts and I value myself and my 32 years experience, the amount of times someone has moaned at my quote with "this other garage will do it for less", I say, go there then and they respond; "but they don't do a good job". One thing i stopped doing is putting VAT on my invoices to the general public, got sick of all the arguments and the "how much for cash" nonsense. Invoices to businesses that are claiming it back have the vat clearly shown but for Billy, Karen, Malcolm, Abduls and Mohamed's of this world get an invoice with a bottom line figure, it includes vat and get declared and paid without their input on how special they are in not believing they need to pay tax, my accountant has no issue with me doing it this way and it has ended all the arguments that drained my soul daily. But yea interesting listening to you, too many self employed out there are undervaluing their skills when demand for such skills is high and the amount of skilled people are declining under the huge weight of modern ineptitude. When our brethren demand cheaper let them go forth and experience it.
Hi dad

I rarely price by the hour, just price what the job is worth and see the shock on customers faces when you get the sprayers out and paint a ceiling in 5 minutes
Indeed, however the purchase cost of the sprayer, the knowledge, training, experience makes sure it takes five minutes and a flawless finish, they'd not be able to do it
Totally get it ,i hate my job 30 years kitchen fitter, most customers now are a nightmare never used to be like this, don't get whats going on but im jacking it all in.
I know how you feel, it does turn around but it's getting worse
