In this video, we will demonstrate the best technique to roll over in bed with low back pain or sciatica, or herniated discs. This can be extremely painful, as a herniated disc or disc bulge can compress lumbar nerves, causing severe back pain, which in some cases can be incapacitating.
The best way to roll over in bed with low back pain is to minimize the amount of twisting or rotation in your lower back, as well as minimizing the amount of flexion or forward bending in the lower back. Both of these movements can aggravate a disc bulge or disc herniation, potentially worsening both.
To roll over in bed with sciatica, try to roll over as a unit, similar to a log, so that your pelvis is fixed to your torso, to minimize the twisting of your upper body relative to your lower body. Also, as you shift over in bed, try to do this as a unit, the less movement in your spine in general, the better.
If you follow these instructions, you'll have less pain when you roll over in bed with severe back pain.
If you experience any loss of bowel or bladder function, or numbness around your groin and butt, consult with a medical professional immediately, or go to your nearest hospital.
