    Minimalism will be the result or side effect of being an essentialist in most cases. The unhealthy mindset approach is less for the sake of less. A much better approach is less due to evaluating what's important. Once you identify and focus on what's important, anything that does not meet the definition of important is clutter. I've never been a fan of the word "minimalism" because it has a "less for the sake of less" connotation. On minimalist discussion forums, there are even plenty of posts of aspiring minimalists who are asking for permission to keep something precious but not necessarily practical. Less for the sake of less s missing the point if the point is to be deliberate.

    I see this aesthetic more for business types, students, or tech people There is no soul or spirit of the person who occupies the space. It's like a hotel for temporary stay, in my opinion Artists would struggle with this aesthetic.

    African minimalism is not a trend. Literally go to any village and you will see that people don't just accumulate things because we only have what we use with the exception of cultural items with important meaning.

    Much of this speaks directly to some of the things I'm working through right now. I know that I buy things to try to fill up an empty space inside of me, and I have gotten better at buying things, but I still see buying some new kitchen gadget or pair of shoes as something that I need when I really don't.

    I am embarking on a low buy journey instead. 7/2024. to 7/2025. am allowed to buy 24 non essential items in total. My main goals are to stop impulse purchases, build emergency funds and stop buying fast fashion completely. Where possible purchases should will be made either second hand or locally. To make things a bit more fun I have set up rule to read at least 24 books and declutter 24 personal belongings over a year.

    I would probably choose warm, it's less formal and easier to upkeep (less glossy surfaces). Also warm minimalism provides the softness needed for children to grow comfortably- less sharp edges and more soft materials. 😊

    I would add that eco minimalism would use thrifted items. Scandi would have a lot of Ikea, Japanese would have traditonal japanese items. Basically what was presented all look the same...new, nice expensive furniture & furnishings. Lovely but not helpful or practical for the average person. All designer... no actual homes that are minimal...lots of generalizations. My American home has natural wool or cotton area rugs, some original japanese scrolls on the walls, thrifted wicker, french provincial couch bought new made in Italy in the 1970's. Minimal means not having a lot of stuff My crystal chandelier is not maximal as it hangs in an uncluttered space neutral colored space.

    I followed the Joshua Becker method to declutter my whole house and I don't remember a 12 x 12 x 12 method. Maybe he called it something else in the beginning. His method involves "sweeps" of decluttering which I felt was very helpful in getting down to my minimum of things.

    Why would Scandinavians opt for bland colours particularly when their nights are long, and days are short. It may have clean lines, but it us extremely drab and depressing to look at, much less live in. It's strange that the don't make use of the world of colour and brighten their homes to counteract the gloom outside. Very very depressing.😧

    Eco minimalism, while I agree in principle, isn't very "eco" if it's breaking new ground. The greenest house is one that already exists, and is improved for efficiency etc.

      @One_Percent_Better_Every_Day 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Overall, I agree with you. But in this particular case, the choice of eco minimalism is still better sustainable version than any others. Sometimes, fixing old structure or home is more expensive and resource demanding.
