Welcome to the Governance and Local Development Institute's (GLD) TH-cam channel. GLD is a research program based at the University of Gothenburg, originally founded in 2013 at Yale University by Program Director, Professor Ellen Lust. GLD focuses on the local factors driving governance and development. The institute is dedicated to international collaboration and scientifically rigorous, policy-relevant research in an effort to promote human welfare globally. On this channel, we mainly post videos from held events that target governance and local development issues.
GLD Policy Roundtable - Forced Migration and Local Outcomes
This webinar was recorded on October 31st, 2024, and arranged by the Governance and Local Development Institute (GLD) at the University of Gothenburg.
Global displacement is at an all-time high, and a majority of refugees, asylum seekers, and internally displaced people are living in less-resourced countries. To address how policies can better meet the needs of refugees and migrants, this policy roundtable focused on displacement in different geographic regions. Whether these individuals leave their homes due to conflict, climate change, or in search of better opportunities. The roundtable panelists also focused on how sub-national and local contexts may shape outcomes for displaced people and host communities relating to social integration, welfare, and political engagement.
Speakers:
- Elizabeth G. Ferris, Professor and Director, Institute for the Study of International Migration, Georgetown University.
- Daniel Masterson, Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
- Jocelyn Perry, Senior Advocate and Program Manager of the Climate Displacement Program at Refugees International.
Moderator:
Kelsey Norman, Director of the Women’s Rights, Human Rights & Refugees program at the Edward P. Djerejian Center for the Middle East at Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy.
