Adding Manual Controls To Your ATV Winch

This video shows how to add a manual control switch to your Harbor Freight Badland Winch. This same method can be used for other brands as well, however the wire colors may vary. For my application, I am using this to control a Moose plow on my Suzuki King Quad ATV

2003 GL1800A Low Mile Honda Goldwing with ABS. Walk Around This bike is superior in all ways with amazing power and handling capabilities I'm simply amazed by what it can do. 1832cc! Do not be intimidated by it's size, it handles like a sport bike and it's weight is not even close to noticeable. There are a couple of nice upgrades to this bike as well. 2006 Yamaha Vino 125 CC Walk Around This bike barely has any miles on it. Less than 500! It has an air cooled motor & a CVT automatic transmission. Also has Twin Sided Swing Arm rear suspension, front disc brakes, a small luggage rack, & storage compartment. It all locks up well, including the fuel cap. Literally got 75 mpg on this when I used it to commute to work (live very close to work). It...

thanks for this. one thing, a schematic drawing would be nice to quickly summarize.
I have the same winch and connected it to a on-off-on switch and it does go up and down but it doesn't hold tension when up and switch goes to off.. I did something wrong... wrong switch? wiring?
@@TVTruther if the winch line does not hold tension after pulling the line in, and the free spool is disabled, then you likely have a defective winch.
Very nice I had a 1976 FLH all original even down to the factory paint
Can't thank you enough for posting this vid. I have the same Badlands winch on my 2011 Sportsman and purchased the exact same switch. I hate auto / atv wiring and beyond your photo's inside the control box, I hooked everything up exactly as you described and BAM......winch working again. Again, many thanks.
Super happy I could help. Please subscribe! :-)
Just followed this video to install the same switch. The switch works well, except now the wireless remote doesn’t work. Any idea why?
The wireless remote is not impacted by this installation method. If you followed along exactly as I did it, and the switch works, then There is no reason I can think of that the remote wouldn’t work after switch installation. All we are doing here is piggybacking off the remote wiring with the switch. So if one works they both should. I haven’t been into the wiring since I made this video, but I’d start by going back into the winch wiring box and making sure I didn’t knock anything else loose in there while doing the install. Only other things that comes to mind would be if you tested the remote right before you started this install? If not, Could just be the remote battery or the remote itself. Hope this helps. Please like and subscribe if you haven’t already!
Those were my thoughts. I double checked everything and it all seems tight. The only thing I did differently was I tapped into the power within the remote box since my atv doesn’t have a fuse box. My only thoughts are perhaps I shorted out the wireless box as I forgot to disconnect power when initially loosening the nut to tap into the power there (I did see a couple sparks 😅)? Other than that, I installed as you did by running the switch in/out wires down the sleeve of the existing wireless box in/out wires and soldered them in place. Perhaps both if those wireless box wires got pulled back/loosened and is no longer making good contact? The remote was tested before install, I used it regularly.

Do you have to register everything or just rifles?
The state offers a lot of documentation on what must be registered. When you first log in, a warning box pops up and gives you links to the answers you seek. It’s way too much to list here. However, I can say that that they are requiring us to register rifles they consider to be assault weapons, as well as many accessory. Also many semi-auto handguns and magazines. Even some ammo….and more. So best you read to see what you have that may qualify. If you found this helpful, I’d appreciate if you would subscribe. Happy New Year!
Frangible is mostly for training not for self d. frangible gives poor penetration..
Polish your feed ramp
So there is no quick connect rocker switch for a Badland 2500?? I have the wireless remote and the manual joystick . Why the hell didn’t they just make a rocker option that is plug and play that is mountable
You would think, but I couldn’t find one. Hope you found the video helpful. Would appreciate a like and subscribe if you did.
@@JamesBergSr appreciate it… sub and liked
Taurus manual specifically says the small lever on the left side of pistol is a slide catch not a slide release . Use it according to the factory and no problems encountered with my spectrum
Great video, thank you. I'm just getting ready to hook one up on my old grizzly..
Spectrum does not like flat nose, or hollow point.
60 percent of the time it works every time :-)
Some helpful info here for new Spectrum owners.. This is a "micro compact" 380 so it's a small gun. Because of it's small dimensions the internal angles have to change slightly as well to accommodate a small frame - in particular the "feed ramp" angle where the round gets pushed up into the chamber. This angle on this gun is steeper... and that means slightly more resistance is met on that ramp as chambering the first round begins. RACK THAT SLIDE by hand and rack it hard! Snap your rack hand off the slide while it's still traveling back AND while pushing the gun forward with the grip hand. SLING SHOT IT. Most feed issues are ONLY with that first round. ALSO... The polishing and elimination of sharp edges and burrs is NOT a priority for makers of inexpensive firearms. For this reason you should fire 200-400 rounds of target ammo thru this gun for a "break in" period. Polishing & deburring the ramp and ramp edges may help as well. Once the gun is "broke in" by doing the above it should handle most or all types of normal (dont use +P) ammo with few exceptions. This gun needs to be fired and the more you fire it the better it runs.
mine has the same issues filed down the feed ramp had a edge on it good now
Nice, mine is same year.
Use 95 grain full metal jacket he won't have no problems I got 500 rounds through my not one mishap
I use 95gr magtech and had 100% reliability issues. The first round will never feed using the slide stop as a release. As long as I sling shot it, it works. However my grip actuates the magazine release alot. The middle finger of my right hand wraps around the grip and touches the mag release. Not good because this is technically a smooth shooting 380. The ergonomics just don't work for me
Interesting... Another guy observed just the OPPOSITE than you in terms of bullet shape saying that people needed to use the more "rounded" type of FMJ ammo and not the more sharply pointed type. Others have had "issues" with the Hornaday and other similar ammo... Apparently they consistently do not like Sig Sauer ammo from vids I have seen. It almost apppears to be individually specific to individual weapons. Then there is this guy who appears to have made his much more ammo tolerant by some simple smithing... th-cam.com/video/Q3dD5ZcN0VE/w-d-xo.html Bottom line is that Taurus needs to fix something in their manufacturing process would be my suggestion. I have one of these but figured I'd look to see what kinds of issues people were running into before taking it to the range. I"m sure taking an array of different types of rounds when I do so.
Why would you use a pocket holster for IWB?
excellent, just what I needed to see. I can do that.
I just bought a 2014
THANK YOU for this AWESOME video. Well explained and all steps were videoed fine. I am now going to tackle mine. Thank you again.
Thanks man!
Beyond the warranty but with little use while working on my cars used it for an extended time yesterday and the switch became difficult to turn and would not turn off. Opened the light and the switch had distorted. Wanting to purchase a replacement switch called Astro and was informed they do not sell internal parts. An expensive light to have to discard due to an easily replaceable part if it were available. Hopefully I can find a substitute from another supplier that supports the products they sell. My advice at this point is not to buy this brand.
I’m having the opposite usurped. Round nose has no problem feeding, but the more aggressive hollow points won’t feed while others will. Just depends on the shape of the nose, I guess. I love the spectrum, but it’s pickiness with different defense ammo gets on my nerves. Thanks for the video.
Didn't realize this weapon had a "clip".
I have no problem, with mine except it does not like fmj rounds or srerl case amo
I take it this has been sometime between this is post and when I'm commenting on this right now but this is the 3rd video on this topic and I one saw approximately half hour 45 minutes ago the gentleman has a ability to do repairs on his own firearms and said that the extractor and part of the bolt needed to be polished down because the surface areas were too rough and they were causing cartridges to rub on the metal parts He basically did the demonstration and he was able to do everything with a dremel tool and and based on what I saw on the video he was able to fix the problem
Yep, just did that same thing today. It worked for me….
Good lord....he called it a "clip"
I bought mine locally for 229 couple of weeks ago. I’ve shoot FMJ, JHP , Ammo Inc. 100 gr. Flat nose with no problem. I installed a Galloway guide rod and ordered 3 more magazines .
Thank you thank you. Great video. Now I feel better. I bought one for a pocket pistol when walking or jogging and I had same problem as you. It doesn't like the liberty civil defense. I guess not tapered enough and to big of a hollow point and light. A lot better luck with underwood penetrator
great video ... the changes worked GREAT ... thank you
Sounds like too many problems to me.
A lot of information in the owner's manual - there is no slide release. The slide stop does its job perfectly - pull slide to load round.
Yep. I've had the same experience.
