I joined blue sky and the first time I logged in there was someone farming drama (don't remember what it was, but it seemed to be something looking to p!$s off people... and it seemed to be doing that well.... considering the amount of hate in my face - I wish I could remember what it was, but I think I blocked that vile cr@p from my memory, lol but I really can't remember. I just know i was THINKING: what are the odds that THIS is rare, here, if its the FIRST THING I SEE?!)- seeing that on the first post after joining.... it just felt like Twitter. Which I refused to log into since BEFORE Elon took over because it was still pretty bad then. He just made it 10x's worse. But in my opinion it was bad before, as well. When he took over I was just glad I got out when I did, I think the last time I logged in there was 2015 or 2017.... Soooo yeah. So I just noped out of Bluesky when I saw that. My first time logging in and I just got hatred and drama shoved into my face.

BlueSky's userbase has doubled since the USA elections, and yes, people ARE posting. These days, I'm getting more engagement via BSky than I ever did via Twitter (especially among the greater VTuber community). I'm also seeing more corporate presence, more politicians... sadly, also more trolls, but BSky has VERY robust blocking tools. BSky has become popular enough that overseas disinfo groups are now setting their sights on it, to try to pick up where they left off on other socials. It won't work (due to BSky being open source and decentralized [like Mastadon]), but the fact they see it as worth trying says a lot about the popularity of BSky.

As someone who hated twitter and found it to be a cesspool of the worst kind of people to begin with before Musk took over, Bluesky very much feels like its not really different in any meaningful way

I very much disagree with Mousey about Bluesky; it is very much popping off, creators just need to... use it. And that's it. Replace Twitter on their bookmarks with Bluesky and anything they were going to Tweet they can use Bluesky. The numbers will initially be smaller but Twitter took over a decade to get to where it was, and it's also bot-infested, so if anyone is going "but I go from 1 million followers to 200k," they're not considering everything like I already mentioned or abandoned accounts, etc.

Bluesky really IS growing. Vtubers just seem hesitant to migrate.

People are actually using Bluesky now yep, and engagement is supposedly much, much higher going by the people I've seen test it by cross posting. But to be fair, that is a sample size of people who have been cross posting, maybe it's not as high if you do more of a jump from one platform to the other type thing

I only use Twitter for following artists and the majority of them moved to BlueSky soooooo.. I'm waiting for the last few to move and then I'm nuking it after sending a formal email to delete all my data.

Moving platforms always has a chicken and egg problem, but Bluesky does have activity now-a-days, it really just depends what communities you are in, the nazis have pushed a lot of people off Twitter. Unfortunately vtubing and most Japan-related stuff has stuck to Twitter because it's so ingrained over there.

Twitter as it used to be is long dead. I left the website 4 months ago and never looked back. As for Bluesky, its main appeal right now is being Twitter-like, without Apartheid Elmo's hellish leadership. As a result, its growth spikes are directly correlated to his team's bad decisions, which is not really sustainable. I think it's not unwise to create an account there and "plant a flag" so to speak, but the only way I see it becoming a serious alternative is if major countries start banning Twitter for good.
