Wall of Sound TH-cam channel launched the first video in April 2019.The channel creates detailed reviews of guitar and bass effect pedals. The different pedal control settings are checked out, while playing guitar or bass, to give a full impression of how the pedal can sound like and what it can do. In some of the videos, the effect pedal are combined with another pedal to emphasize the effect. For example adding an overdrive pedal to a phaser or delay pedal. A brilliant pedal. I had the digitech PDS 1700, the CF-7 is just as good. This pedal is a Madman! The footswitch is very frail, however. Try not to knock it around too much and keep it clean. The knobs sit on a separate board. I adore my CF-7, so I keep it in a sandwich baggie.
Heard about the tonelok series fragile footswitches, haen't had a faulty on yet though (have done videos on most of the tonelok series here on the channel) :-)
I love my retrosonic flanger, but I dont dig this at all, sounds more like a fuzz
It's based on the original Proco RAT
Un fraude
Strange comment - what do you mean?
that sounds every bit as good as the original japan models. what era is this?
I agree, it's one of the newer MIT models
5:43 sounded like he was about to play come as you are
I probably was ;-)
You may use cab sim for better sound .
ok, thanks for info, prefer mic though
Bought one for 30 bucks years ago. Its one of the only pedals ive never thought about selling. I absolutely love it. Has trim pots inside so you can tweak it if you want. It sounds great
worst pedal ever to be honest
this pedal, was a secret weapon of a very very famous bassist ,,everyone thought he used the red one ,,wich i guess is the jhs 2 ??? ,,but i ran on stage 2 times and saw for my self ...winninig!!!
Nice :-)
Hello, mine has the same voice but is more round, yours is a lot more crispy also at low volumes. Why this difference? Thank you😊
Not sure, but there's both a version 1 and 2 and not sure wich one mine is, and I don't have it any longer...
Hmmm. You didn't get one good sound out of it! I used to gig with this pedal in the early to mid 80's and always got a great punk/metal sound...
Well I tried, did you also use a Strat and a solid state amp? :-)
@@WallofSoundDK I should have said 'Good 'metal' sound...'
The name Brown Acid makes me think it’s gonna be dirty and messed up and maybe a little scary, but I don’t hear that. Pretty smooth really. ✌🏻
So classic dude!, thank you for the video !
You're welcome :-)
Pretty sure it uses PNP Germanium transistors :-)
Name a more iconic duo, high gain distortion pedals and blues riffs
Channel called “wall of sound”? I subbed.
he Hot Head is a clone of the DS1 with separate bass and treble controls
I got this pedal recently used for $30. I didn’t know what to expect… and it’s pretty sweet. It reminds me of a boss sd-1. It has germanium diodes inside. Sometimes I find it lacks a little high end but with a tiny treble bump on the amp I regain the clarity. We’re talking practically nothing. No playing with your amp for hours to get a good tone. Also it’s very red
This pedal actually suprised me, souds really good...
do you use is as more of an overdrive or into a clean amp?
@@matt926uk1 in the video it goes into a clean amp, but you can also use it with an overdriven amp. If you're using single coils, expect some noise as well as lots of gain!
Merci !
Boss Ottowa
I remember when this came out, and have always been interested in it for its ability to add something very subtle and undefinable to the sound. I guess it falls into the harmonic trem category, which has seen some renewed interest these last years.
Dude, there's something wrong here....
What might that be?
@@WallofSoundDK it sounds awful, nothing at all like the unit I have or others that I've heard online. I had to stop listening because of the shrill hurting my ears.
@@SuperClydeJ Well I've recorded it the way I recorded all my other videos - with a Shure SM57. And I always compare the recorded sound with the actual sound, coming out my amp. Nothing wrong here, sounds fine. Maybe you haven't heard it on a Strat through solid state Marshall before? Or maybe you need to turn down volume, check your unit, your spearkers or your ears - the video have over 5000 views with mostly positive comments so far, and nothing about ears hurting! just saying ;-)
@@WallofSoundDK That's not true, you had another comment here stating that this sounded like crap. Given that this is the only video that I've seen so far that sounds so shrill, I would say the problem is with how you are recording this. Why not just go directly into a mixer and leave the mic out of the equation? By the way, I am using a good studio monitor setup that sounds just fine even at full blast, which I never do anyway. If you don't believe me, search out some of the other reviews and do the comparison yourself. I appreciate that you take the time to do these videos, but maybe there is a reason your subscriber count is so low. I am sorry to be so critical, but I'm just giving honest feedback. Sorry to make you so defensive, that wasn't the goal.
@@SuperClydeJ Thanks for the input, but like I said MOST comments! There's just one stating it doesn't sound good - but remember I use same setup for all 245 videos (changed amp though) and I never get these kind of comments from other viewers. I've used SM57 and other mic's for over 20 years, and I would NEVER go DI into a mixer, sounds like crap. I have tested this way of recording for years and seen/heard many other guitarplayers use this method - thats why I use this method myself. I do test the tone control all the way from left to right - maybe you jumped into the video when it was at full treble? But to suggest that my way of recording has something to do with number of subscribers is just low...
This pedal is discontinued and I feel like we can hear why.
Great information! Thanks!
Hi from Aus. Great review & Playing! I found 1 of those for sale, really cheap. $50 Aussie money. I better jump on it quick. I'm collecting some gear for a friend but if I can get it, I'd better keep this 1 for myself. ❤ I can't believe the video has so few views, comments & likes.
Thanks mate and greetings from Denmark :-) I suggest you grab it for yourself, it's a really nice reverb, and seems you can get it for good price :-)
Do u think this is better than boss os2?
This one is actually one of my favorite boss dirt pedals, would prefer it over the OS-2 but that's my personal taste. Hope it helps :-) Mikkel, Wall of Sound
When was the Flanger first introduced?
Google: Like many effects, flanger emerged organically in a studio decades ago, probably through a happy accident. The first recorded use of flanger was by legendary guitarist Les Paul in 1949, although many credit The Beatles with popularizing the effect a decade later. :-)
Thank you
You didn't explain what the straight through sound was. You failed to explain WHAT CHANGED when you plugged in the pedal. You failed to realise it's more suitable in A FULL SET OF mxr pedals. You also failed to understand that Fender has a unique signal from their electronics. This pedal will sound completely different if you plug in a Gibson guitar.
YOU failed to realize that the clean sound is described 0:19 and also in the description ;-) If you think MXR pedals only go with MXR pedals, then WAKE UP. I have three MXR and a Mad Professor on my bass board ;-) I have a Gibson Les Paul too, but prefer to do the videos with my Strat. I mention that in the video, because I'm aware of the fact that any guitar colors the effect sound and Strats have their own special tone.
Why are you playing single notes and expecting them to chorus? You must play the full chord so we can hear the church choir chorus. The church doesn't get 1 singer to chorus. No, they get everyone to sing and then you can hear the wobbling sound.
Well Kurt Cobain played single notes alot, using chorus, so someone (including me) might be interested in hearing how that sounds. I play chords too ;-)
Is it good for black metal?
Not sure, I can't play that fast ;-)
It’s a fuzz box
Check out the FZ7 th-cam.com/video/X5RWHXwvzsI/w-d-xo.html
Now that’s a fuzz box with a bad transistor 😂 I play a Rat through a stack of Marshalls. Does what I need. Cheers!
@@michaelbrodsky it's the 'damage' effect - only pedal who can do this! :-)
I can’t wait to use this pedal, I just put one on lay away
Great demo!
🥲Distortion❌ ✨Fuzz✅😃
Was always unsure was ths pedal an overdrive or distortion, seems more like a distortion.. ..
I would say overdrive, check out the LT Dist
th-cam.com/video/ps3vIIYM6mQ/w-d-xo.html
Usually- and I don't know with this particular circuit because even though it's called a "Muff" it's also an "overdrive" not a "fuzz" - but with most fuzz circuits- they only sound good if you adjust the volume on your guitar. Usually, you turn them on- and they sound way to over the top, way too washed out, the bottom end is all flubby and distorting- sounds awful. But you turn the volume down on the guitar- and you start finding all kinds of useable tones. Some od are the same way- they're just not made for a really hot pick up. That's one thing I like about modelers- you can usually find a good setting on the input block for hotter pickups and save it as a preset.
I feel like this pedal needs to be run into another pedal
Haven't tried, but sounds like fun ;-)
@@WallofSoundDK or put after an overdrive
Needs more mids
OCD into a MUFF!
This is just a LPB-1 with different component values.
I love this pedal, it's managed to stay on my board for a really long time.
Thumbs up
👊🎭
why you didnt use another half of the pedal ? o.O whole things was about that pedal boost & overdrive and i watched how to dont use it :D
Cool, so now you'll only get nice sounds out of it (knowing how not to use it)
@@WallofSoundDK thanks man :))
@@lonercheki ;-)
Do you remember how noisy it gets when feedback is fully cw and rate fully cw too(audio rate)? Thank you
No, don't remember - but I do test the settings fully clockwise, in the video, just nok at the same time :-/
Everyone says these are too thin. Tinny???? I agree
I own one n i love it ❤
I understand how you feel, I think it's one of Boss best sounding pedals :-)
Congrats., you made it sound like crap
Thanks, man - means alot. It takes years of practise to master the crappy skill - but don't worry, even though you seem a bit slow, you'll get there eventually...
Electric Wizard
Lil late but i find to get the best out of this particular circuit the volume needs to be cranked. The gain then should be dialed according to taste. But that would make things too loud which warrants the need for an attenuator.
Sounds awfully synthetic and sterile. Even garageband can give a better tone.
This is such a nice sounding pedal.
I have this very pedal. It's more than I could imagine. It's Metal!
