Nice
great video. im from Slovenia. This January I went camping and could not start a fire. I started fires in storms and in 10 cm of snow but I couldn't even lite up tinder. It wasn't that cold about -2 but everything was wet and frozen and I could not even find one piece of wood that wasn't fully soaked and frozen. I resorted to hiking to a friends house to ask for his fire starter cubes (those white things I forgot their name). Do you have any tips on making a fire in such wet frozen conditions without using synthetic fire starters or do you just give up.
If there has been a lot of rain or snow and I can't find anything dry within the first 15-20 minutes of being out, the first thing I do is go look under evergreen trees, in the US we have cedars and pines not too sure what the options are in Slovenia though. If I can't find anything under big trees, I start splitting or shaving down wood. On bigger logs, generally, unless you have had heavy rain for weeks, everything but the first inch (3cm) is usually dry. From there you can continue to split it into smaller dryer pieces. For tinder, I prefer cotton balls soaked in candle wax. The candle wax adds a good waterproof coating on the outside and you can still unroll the cotton ball and light the dry inside. Another trick I like is putting wood shavings, paper, and cardboard in a plastic bag at the bottom of my pack so they stay dry. Once you get a fire going, you can put the wet logs and sticks near, but not in, the fire to dry them out. I would also recommend bringing a small waterproof tarp to put any extra wood you find under to keep dry. If we get a good rain I will for sure head out and make a video about starting a fire with wet wood. Hope this helps!
These videos are so helpful and informative 🫶
thank you so much raccoon hat man!!
Was that a soft shell fleece or a hard shell? Also you can raise your heat output with physical activity. you don't necessarily need a fire or heated shelter, you can increase you body heat output with a set of pushups or jumping jacks or by picking up your walking pace.
Technically it is a soft shell fleece since it is not rainproof. Good point on the physical activity. I try to avoid too much as it is exhausting for your body to stay in the cold and moving around burns more calories that are hard to restore. If you have the food, definitely not bad to be moving around. Thanks for the comment!
I was 69th like i deserve some socks wont settle for less

Hammer the handle with a leather hammer to fit the handle
Better to have the handle protrude up to about 1/4" beyond the axe head. Then once it is all together soak the head in antifreeze for 24 hours.
Nice, just keep on thinkering and you'll have a tool you're going to cherish mate.
Showing off survival kit by bragging how much you get lost in the woods? And are insufferable?

I dont use spinners for trout much, but I've seen alot of folks have success with them. I think I just have to use them more often to gain more confidence in them.
Give it a shot. Let us know how it goes!
