Shit. I saw these guys play in boise outside the old penitentiary/botanical gardens. And Perry (Who is also a master MC) suddenly pointed to the prison walls that were the back of the arena/show and remarked how it "It's I wonder I didn't get locked up in there for my propensity for...STEALING" ..And boom, on the beat 'been caught stealing kicked off liked they 'd rehearsed it a hundred times before. ..And then I thought, "Shit, how many acts do you have that you have one especially made for when you play in front of prisons?" ...They did it though. These guys' talent is something I'd never seen before. True story 2012 Boise Old Pen. I cold witnessed it. Lollapollusa. People don't get this. That come's from the Three Stooges. Perry being Jewish adored the Three Stooges and that's where the name Lollalalooza came from, a Three Stooge Short. ..Now let us first say that the Three Stooges Larry Fine, Moe Howard, Curly Howard all amazing Jewish comics not to mention athletes/stunt men. But the way they worked together to make stuff you could still not make to this day. Navarro, Perkins, and Farrell are the Three Stooges in Farrell's mind,. If you've seen their act you get this. ..But it's not in the dismissive way. It was out of the great respect for The Three Stooges.
I was at the night before holloween. Place was electric! Never in my life have I experienced crowd in that way. Most fun I’ve ever had. I’ll never forget it! Greatest show ever
Heroin is definitely better than wine.
This guy has sucked from day one…..he just sounds constipated.
What is the name of the song at 51:50 ?
Word up Cart!
Literally the most overrated band ever. Lead singer is insufferable and a degenerate.
YEAH ONE OF THE MOST GAY BANDS EVER..LOVE THEIR MUSIC BUT WHATS UP WIT THE MAKE UP N WOMANS CLOTHING REALLY IS THERE A MEANING FOR IT OR IS IT REALLY WHAT THEIR INTO WHICH IS JUST FUKING JUST WEIRD
it's just not a band flea should be in. too bad about the fight/end of Jane's Addiction
Got some bad shit Then I walked the beach in Venice, oh! I went outside I been in too long I went outside For some inspiration Did the G-O Did the No-Go There were stars There were flies Even the flies dropped like... What does a fly drop like? Stars Oh, but I didn't slow down I went outside I thought I was a Chinese blues player Outside I've been in too long Did the G-O And then I did the No-Go There were stars There were flies Even the flies dropped like... What do flies drop like? Like stars But I didn't slow down I didn't slow down I didn't slow down Never went down I didn't slow down Stars! Stars
So you see kids, Perry never sang the songs live “like the record” 🥴 But most of you now days are used to tracks & dj stuff & I’m okay with that - as long as you don’t expect a band like JA to be that. Perry isn’t your “lead singer”. He is a shaman. He’s an instigator. A conduit. It’s punk rock & some people don’t like it. That’s okay but stop telling him he’s missing cues. He’s not missing anything.
Ish.... I agree up to a point... I was just about to post this video as evidence that he used to be this way but was still able to perform & put on one hellluva show! Not so now... he sold his soul to that etty thing... I've had too many good memories with this band to not go away happy. But I wish it hadn't ended this way...😢
@@siscili333Dude he LOVES Etty & they’ve been together for many years. If you respect a person, you respect their SO. She’s stood by him through thick & thin (and gotten him to rehab twice that I know of). He can’t do the same things now that he did then because he’s 65 man. Some artist can continue & some just can’t.
@@lisacantlose slightly disagree again... SO don't automatically get respect. They must earn it. & in my opinion, she's done the opposite. But what the hell do we know about celebrity lives... it's all tragic afffff no matter what or who is to blame. Respect for the music that has shaped my life!!!
Not singing in time with the band. Isn't punk it's just a screw up . Lots of guys can perform well without tapes and backing tracks.
@@lisacantlose He didn't stick by Casey though did he ? Abandoned her when she needed him the most after supporting him and doing everything for him .
"'can get a sandwich in an hour" - flexing a little too hard there Perry.
Amazing
janes is nothing like they were, please retire, hopefully they break up
I saw Jane’s with Flea and it was a great show, but any real fan knows that Eric was the rug that really tied the room together, and the band was never the same without him. Upvote if you agree.
This was a crap one-off for the band. The strippers were distractin bullshit. They never really sounded right again until Eric Avery was back in the lineup.
12:52. two headed dog
Worst Band Ever. And pricks too.
Perry is my all time favorite, Jane’s and the first Porno For Pyros are amazing
flea goin into a trance state when he played his bass....spectacular
Disgusting zionazi prick.
Wow! Thank you
I used to possess a VHS of Gift - Perry’s film, anyone know where I can reacquire this seminal film?
First saw them live in '88 at age 17. Mind forever blown. Love Flea, but what's the story behind the Eric no-show?
flea looking like the lovechild of sting and billy idol
Saw them at the Glen Miller Ballroom in Boulder, CO in 1989 (March 17th). Perry was onstage bitching about someone selling him bad smack. Someone threw a tampon on stage and he put it up his ass and then threw it in the audience and said "This is for the dude who sold me the bad smack". LOL. The Buck Pets opened. Remember them?
BEST live band ever seen. Period I'm 47, seen em all
1989 TB...Florida
Interesting... I'm 47 and color BLUE has been my fav color since I was 4
Saw them 03 ×2, 09 w/NIN, 12 ×2. So five times
"Nothings shocking..." hasn't been a movement like this b4 and lololol!.DEFINITELY not after. Musically and Pop culture wise
Dave looked liked Chino Moreno in 1990 trials of his stepdad murdering his mother.
Let's not lose our heads people! They're okay. That's it. Okay. They have a few good songs. Big deal.
startng with xxx there were three albums in a row that didn't have ONE miss. Scratch that . ONE miss . "My Time" from the triple x record is weak , besides that homeruns all the way .
Fun fact: Dave Navarro is a Mayflower descendant on his mother's side of the family.
And his mother (and aunt) was murdered by a psycho stalker when he was a kid.
The 3 headed dog wtfunk 😮
Thanks!
I love lamp
Saw this tour in Atlanta 🖤🌹
Flea ruined those songs.
This movie disturbed me!
Then, your prob good to go! 😂
Perry Farrell screwed over his band and his long-term romantic partner and creative director Casey Niccoli who named his albums, designed his album covers and early stage shows, co-created the sculptures on Nothing's Shocking and Ritual De Lo Habitual, directed their videos and often appeared in them, gave Perry her wardrobe and sense of style (which is what drew Perry to her in the first place), and financially supported Perry in the early days. Her thanks was that Perry abandoned her when she developed a terrible addiction (which Perry himself shared) and she was locked out of her own home. He at least admitted the kind of person he was in the Classic Girl lyrics: "Such a classic girl, gives her man great ideas. Hears you tell your friends, 'Hey man, listen to my great idea!' It's true I am a villain when you fall ill, that's probably because men never can be-not like a girl, a classic girl, such a classic girl." ...not only did he tell on himself about taking credit for her ideas, he even told on himself about how he would behave if she fell ill. He *did* become a villain when she fell ill. As great as Jane's Addiction was, Perry took most of the credit for himself in the most egotistical and selfish way. Not only did he take credit for Casey's work and abandon her after her years of loyal support and artistic contribution, while renegotiating contracts, Perry demanded 50% of the royalties for writing the lyrics and another 25% of the remaining 50% because he worked on the music, too. So, for all the great work everybody else put into the band, Perry demanded 62.5% of the money, leaving the other 3 band members to receive just 12.5% each. This contract renegotiation forced them to either accept Perry's demands or break up the band. That's what broke up the band at the height of their fame if you didn't know...oh, and Casey was paid just a piddly amount for her contributions when the band broke and she was told the band would never get back together. It's funny Perry presents himself as a well-intentioned guy who just wants everyone to be happy. In the 80s, he was like the Fireclown in Michael Moorcock's book The Fireclown (aka The Winds of Limbo): a charismatic revolutionary who advocated for radical change and preached against the stagnation and authoritarianism of the society in which he lives. The Fireclown's rhetoric and flamboyant persona attracted a following of people who believed in his vision of a freer, happier world. However, his methods and the consequences of his actions reveal a more ambiguous and darker side to his character. From now on, I will refer to Perry as The Fireclown...or simply 🤡. I hope it catches on.
Is this an essay for your emo 101 class?
@@tommym321 no and what a stupid thing to say.
Truly self absorbed and opposite of humble.
He jewish. Scorpion and the frog, if you know.
@@GarbagePailKyuss You should pick up *The Secret War Against the Jews: How Western Espionage Betrayed The Jewish People* by John Loftus and Mark Aarons to learn how the USA and UK have scapegoated the Jewish people for decades. The USA and the UK have caused untold numbers deaths to their supposed allies and millions of innocent people in their greedy quest for oil by pretending to be their allies and then selling their secrets out to their enemies. I am sure Israel has figured this out and uses this to their advantage now, but they don't have many other options. They are a tiny nation with 2 of the biggest superpower nations pretending to be their allies while the rest of the world's superpower nations either don't care about them at all or want them dead. The point is, Israel isn't pulling the strings and, sorry to tell ya, they aren't the greedy evil ones, either. No more than any other race of people, anyway.
This Reunion paid for there rehab bills, the second tour was to buy more Shit .
I always liked Jane's Addiction, but they were never an "I MUST see them" kinda band for me. That changed in 2009, when I went to a Nine Inch Nails show that they opened/co-headlined, the NINJA tour. I love NIN, but honestly, I thought Jane's stole the show. Perry is a fantastic front man and showman...plus Eric Avery was on bass that tour, and when Mountain Song came up, you felt it in your bones. Great show! I still remember some dick threw a beer bottle at Perry, he stops the show, very politely, and says, "Don't throw shit at me. I'm up here trying to entertain 30,000 people." Dave comes up and whispers something in his ear, and Perry says, "Oh yeah, and don't throw shit at Dave either." Continues on with performing like nothing happened. Great night.
I saw that tour in Atlanta or Nashvegas, cannot quite recall fully. But HOTDAMNNN that show was fucking epic!!!! HUGE fan of both bands. & that was just life changing!!! 💜🌙🖤
Remember when (rock) music was truly original? Seemed to end with the 80's. Two quintessential L.A. bands (Jane's and RHCP) - I was a square from the Valley, so I didn't really catch on until Nothing's Shocking and Mother's Milk - I appreciated the Chili Peppers, but loved Janes Addiction from first listen. Perry Farrell was brilliant but he could also be an a**hole.
What’s “the valley” like? Not from California but I remember when that surfer punches Keanu in Point Break and as he paddles away he says “go back to the valley”
@@tommym321 In greater Los Angeles, 'the Valley' is the San Fernando valley, continuous with the city but a bit more of a bedroom community. More families and commuters - less bohemian. Historically a TV industry area rather than movies. And landlocked. So the artistic milieu is more in LA proper and its various neighborhoods. But SF valley is a big, busy, LA adjacent metropolis as well. When it comes to beach locals - they hate all outsiders, and calling someone 'Valley' is the perfect insult, whether true or not.
@@notsure7899 Thank you very much and if your username is an idiocracy reference then 🫡 I salute you!
@@tommym321 You got it! Idiocracy! Awesome, made my day.
@@notsure7899 I don’t have a “favorite” scene from that movie because there are so many great ones, but my friends all know how much I love the absurd “heavy metal army” band at Rehabilitation. As a guitar player, it is so hilarious on several levels and couldn’t be more perfect. Whoever decided on the look, guitars, totally lame generic riff, and specific lame compression tone really knew what they were doing. I will never not laugh out loud at that quick cutaway
I was at the Halloween show just after this one on the East side at Hammerstein Ballroom, NYC. Flea was a great fit in the band in '97. They went all around the room from the tiki hut to scaffolding and during "Ted,Just Admit It", we got a hold of the MTV crane camera and brought it into the pit with us. This also invited 2 BIG Hell's Angels to the pit to retrieve it.😂 The encore of "I would for you" with Dave and Perry arm and arm was ❤
Epic show
Yeah, man! Lights went out! Immediately they are on this stage at the back of the crowd. Which in Detroit was really hilarious, cuz there was really effed up people just laying around and shit! 😂
Originators original no one liked them.
Now Perry does Real Housewife tv shows with his fucked up plastic surgery face. What a dick.
Saw them twice, I grew up in coral gables and went to the same schools as Perry, missed him by maybe 2 years. Nothings Shocking changed my life, Ritual changed my Afterlife, saw them twice, Jane's is pure esoteric beauty onstage, those are among my most treasured memories.
True saw them on Saturday it was amazing
That's right. The colors of Israel are white and blue. Forever Israel.
