i know its minimal but doesn't the sanding make the bars weaker? if your heavier and put alot of torque while riding

I remove the bolt from the clamp area of the stem and use a small hammer to tap in a wooden shim (Home Depot, etc) to hold the clamp area spread open. Drive the shim in parallel to the handlebars. This also helps to keep from scratching the center area of the handlebars by keeping it spread open. The shims are 5"(?) long. I cut the skinny end off so I have about a 2" piece remaining and drive that in. It works very well, give it a try.

Do shielded bearings last longer yet? Metal in place of the plastic?

I've never seen a bike wheel using sealed bearing before . Do they last longer than the cone plus loose ball bearing?

Here is a tip, loosen the valve stem first, see video at 3:21. The tube has to come out for repair/replacement anyway.

Forget the threaded rod - they cost too much - do the same setup with a 1/2 bolt - it's cheaper than the rod and you don't have to buy the 2nd nut.
