The Ankara Polyphonic Music Association (AÇMD) was founded in 1973 by Muzaffer Arkan, Ahmet Adnan Saygun, Cevat Memduh Altar, Mithat Fenmen, Samim Bilgen, Cevza, and Cenap And. The association attained the status of a Public Benefit Association in 1978.

The Ankara Polyphonic Choir within AÇMD started its activities in 1973 under the name Ankara Youth Choir. That same year, it became the first Turkish choir to represent Turkey in an international choir competition by winning fifth place among 24 choirs at the Guido d'Arezzo Polyphony Competition in Italy. The Ankara Polyphonic Choir participated in international festivals in Serbia in 2015, Hungary in 2018, and Serbia again in 2019, earning various awards. In 2022, it was selected as the best choir at the 5th International Astibo Choir Festival in North Macedonia and won first place at the 57th International Mokranyac Days competition in Serbia in 2023.
