Bolt Action: Figure & Terrain Modelling
Unboxing Some Familiar Normandy Terrain
This week I’m unboxing some new Normandy Terrain, which was funded largely by letting go of the last of my Dutch terrain pieces. Although I’m closing the door, for now, on other theatres of WWII, it will allow me to explore the Normandy campaign more closely. This means I can expand on the variety of my terrain pieces to more accurately reflect the battles which took place in Normandy. Over time I can continue to introduce some instantly recognisable terrain pieces, to bring key battles to life.

Refurbishing My Wargame Trees
มุมมอง 35819 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
This week if refurbishing some of my play worn and damaged Wargaming trees, you know the ones, the ones you avoid using, stand behind others or just promise yourself you’ll fix next time. So join me as I tackle the yellow snow you were always warned about and those trees that shed more scatter than a Christmas tree on New Year’s Day.
Channel News Update + Converting a Hornby Level Crossing for Bolt Action
มุมมอง 1.8K14 วันที่ผ่านมา
This week there’s a brief channel news update and then I’m working on a project suggested to me by Mark Fuller who commented on one of my railway video posts a while back. He suggested converting a Hornby Level Crossing for my Bolt Action Train project, as he had done for his setup. So I duly purchased an old Hornby level crossing on eBay and this is what I did with mine. Thanks Mark😉
A Busy Week Terrain Building
มุมมอง 66421 วันที่ผ่านมา
This week it’s a short video I made back in August, as you can tell from the sunshine, which seems but a faint memory now🥶. I was in the thick of another terrain building project, but was also trying to thin out and reorganise the workshop to allow myself room to play some games in there too. It’s an ongoing project but I’m getting there. Health wise, I feel like I’m on the mend a bit now so ho...

I’m building on to the two squads of Commando’s I already have, in order to represent the 1st Commando Brigade led Lord Lovat. มุมมอง 445หลายเดือนก่อน
Early video this week for two reasons. Firstly, I’m unboxing my newly arrived Bolt Action Version 3 Rule Book, Francis S Currey Figure and the new Bedford QLT Troop Carrier and then taking a brief look at them. Secondly, I just want to give my regulars a health update in case there’s a break in my weekly videos.
Let’s Make Some Detailed Bocage for Wargaming
มุมมอง 1.4Kหลายเดือนก่อน
This week I’m making some bocage with a bit more detail, for my future Normandy battles. When I was in Normandy we were lucky enough to see an example of true bocage, particularly as there is so little of it left now, as the troops would have known it. So I’ve tried to incorporate the look of it by adding some sea-foam trees into the rubberised horse hair I’m using for my hedge row. Though this...
A Quick Way To Make Shrubs, Bushes or Weeds From Sponge
มุมมอง 691หลายเดือนก่อน
This week I’ve had to make myself some coloured foams to use as shrubs and bushes on some commission pieces that I need to get done. I normally make my clump and scatter foams up in larger quantities using a food mixer, and then mixing it with paint, but because I’m in a hurry I’m going to try a short cut method using a coffee grinder.
Building Log Ramps, Hedgehogs & Barbed Wire for D-Day Wargaming
มุมมอง 617หลายเดือนก่อน
This week I’m working on some scatter pieces for my D-Day Landing beaches. These include hedgehogs, landing craft traps and barbed wire fencing. Though they blend well with my fleece mat, I may return to these at a later date, to try and tone them to represent the true colour of beach sand, or as close to it as my battle mat will work with. It’s a long video this week, but I hope you’ll find it...

On the night of June 5th to 6th 1944, the 101st Airborne Division conducted a parachute drop behind Utah Beach. Buildings look great Send you a msg regarding someone that made a pdf about Buildings for carentan
Thanks Nick, that’s really good of you, it looks interesting sure to be of use. Much appreciated 😉
They look really nice, but lots of work to paint up.
Thanks mate. I’ve made that classic mistake, letting my ‘to do’ pile become a mountain, so I’ve promised myself to work through it all and resist adding to it, until I catch up a bit. Let’s see how that works out😂
I just realised that I had not subscribed when I changed my account and had missed this video. The room looks great.
Thank you mate, grateful for support 😉
Those buildings are going to look amazing when you get them finished. They look fantastic now. Great buys. :)
@@tolemykus4805 Thanks mate, hope I can do them justice 😉
Great building's thay going to look great when panted and on your tabletop 👏👏👏🤠🤠🤠
@@robandrosehobden3344 Thanks mate, looking forward to working on them😉
Wow! They look amazing. Did you cop for import duties? Edit- yes...
Yes unfortunately, but the stuff I parted with covered the cost, so it wasn’t to bad😉
cool stuff
Thanks mate😉
Very nice buildings my friend make for an excellent looking game board
I must admit I love the visual aspect of the game, must be a throw back to my railway layout as a kid😉
I’d think you’d want to brush from the top down, not the bottom up. You’ll get snow on the bottom of the branches otherwise.
@@johnseitz3780 Thanks for watching, normally when dong it fresh I would but I was trying to to cover the old yellowing clump snow, and this just seemed to work better😉
Its good to get more use out of old terrain. I'd recently done up some old railway model trees and also some old GW ruins that I added rubble and snow to. Yours came up nice.
@@danwade5594 Thanks mate, yes it’s always good to revisit some of the old terrain that’s looking a bit worn and damaged and revamp it, so satisfying when it’s done😉
Great video. I'm looking at making some trees, so very useful. Can I ask what brown primer you used, and the second spray before the highlight colour....was that a spray adhesive? Cheers
Thanks mate, I used Army Painter Oak Brown spray paint. Glue wise, I use a variety of glues, I’ve used a fine spray glue, or a tacky glue and for highlight coats you can use hair lacquer or as I did in this video, use WWS Tree & Bush Foliage Spray. Hope that helps😉
More trees than you can shake a stick at. ohhhhwww that was horrific. :)
@@tolemykus4805 I just thought I’d ’branch’ out and try something a bit different, glad you could join me, you know what they say, ‘Twos company, trees a crowd’ 😉
Looking great well done like the ones with snow on brilliant 🤠🤠👍👍
@@robandrosehobden3344 Thanks mate, so glad to finally get them refurbished.😉
What brand of snow covered trees are those?
@@dennisdaniels4386 Thanks for watching. They were originally decorated with Vallejo Weathering - Snow and WWS snow, but the scatter snow I used to refresh them was some old ‘Serious Play’ white Sand Snow
@@TheGreatMim thanks. Who makes the trees? Where did they come from? They are great looking trees.

Hello, First time here - nice to know you are doing well. I would say don't worry about the ads TH-cam will still add ads to your video even if you are not earning from it. I like the latex roads - they look great and I could use them too. Great work on the level crossing, great video. Subbed for more :), Take care, Karl and Debbie.
Thanks for watching and subscribing, lovely to have you onboard as they say. Cheers for the kind feedback😉
Excellent idea. The Hornby Gate Crossing was one of my first model railway pieces. I had considered using one on my current layout, but the position is on a curve, I never thought about splitting the crossing, so your video has given me food for thought.
@@dinmorejunctionmodelrailway Thanks for watching. It’s really easy to take it apart, there’s only four rivets, I hope it helps, good luck with your layout mate😉
Why didnt you just cut the edging off, That crossing was Hornby dublo.
@@tonyrobinson362 That was certainly a possible way to go, I think in the end I just decided to work with it as it was. Thanks for watching😉

Oi oi Mim 😉 good vid mate, tbh the latex roads I had a eye on for a bit, useful versatility exactly for this project. Mim that Train! is that a scratch build? Any chance at some point you’d share your ideas You planning a Von Ryan’s express or Burt’s The Train.. hmm Partizans vrs the Train? that could make a really cool scenario Mim Oooo ❤
Hi mate, yes it’s a project I’m working on slowly(Very slowly😂) The Train model was a resin kit by Micro World, not sure they’re running anymore. I do intend to share my ideas but I have so many projects on the go at the moment that it’s had to take a back seat. Hopefully sometime in the new year I will be able to bring it back to the fore. Thanks for your interest mate😉
No probs with ads. Glad your feeling a bit better
Oh thanks, it was a worry to me as I didn’t even know how it would affect my videos. Hopefully I can learn a bit more and make sure they don’t get in the way. Thanks for watching.😉
Great work as always . If TH-cam makes money off your content you should as well , adds are put on everyone's content in some way, so I don't see a problem with anyone doing it
Thanks for your kind feedback mate. I don’t fully understand how it works and was worried it would spoil the channel. The main reason I do it is to share the hobby and I enjoy the online friendships it has brought my way. Feels like being at a club which is something I miss up here as I haven’t located a Bolt Action/Historical wargaming group since I moved. Thanks again for your kind support, much appreciated 😉
|What a simple project , well done and very effective
Thanks mate, it was an idea suggested to me, so I was happy to give his idea a go.🙂
Hey love the video. I actually just got into bolt action and built up a 1250 list for commandos. I have loved playing them, but I’m trying to decide on what the best transport options are. What do you think works best for the commandos, for outflank or just moving up faster. Been considering either Bren carriers or trucks, I wish the SAS LRDG could be transports as I love the look. Thanks!
@@BigWill501st Thanks for watching. Thats exactly what I’ve been thinking about, like you, I’m certainly going to go with a few Bren Carriers as I’ve seen pictures of the Commandos using them in Normandy. I’m also going to go with a couple of Bedford QLT troop transports. Another option I’m thinking of is a Centaur IV close support tank, as they used those in Normandy too. Good luck with your army mate, feel free to post pictures of them on my Facebook group, I’d love to see them😉
@@TheGreatMim wonderful! Yes I played a match with the centaur as well as a firefly and it worked really really well. Just not having the transports felt off. I think the bren carriers seem fun to maybe do a coupon for smaller squads maybe all with SMGs to outflank in. Although sending a bunch up in a larger truck seems good too.
Absolutely fantastic video.👍
