I climb West Mountain, a remote peak in the Adirondack Mountains of New York, and in the process discover why anyone would want to climb such an unimposing summit. I access the 2,902 foot peak via the Sucker Brook Bay Trail creating an 11.4 mile round trip. This was a 2-night backpack trip which I did December 7-8, 2020. The solitude was total - I saw no one. I venture on a 2-night backpacking trip along the eastern part of Pennsylvania's Elk Trail. My mission is to find elk. The elk rutting season is on and the animals can be seen and heard. The days are sunny and bright, and the nights cool. The fall foliage is spectacular. I solve the expected lack of water issue. October 8-10, 2020.
