Chi Cross Cup Race #9 & Illinois State Championships - Montrose Beach Preride
Kind of tough course. Flowy but hard. Carry your speed into the sand and lean back. Better to be at a higher cadence going into the sand as well.

I forgot my camera and bike computer so I rode with one hand shooting on my phone as much as I could. Cyclocross is hard with one hand so it I go even slower than normal.
CCC Number 7, not 5. Wheeling - Heritage Park

The course was 1.75 miles long. They were talking about taking out some of the flat sections. People cooking it were lapping in 9 min which is pretty long. I think start stretches are supposed to be 200m, not 250. Either way, not complainig. Happy to have a race! Word on the street is that the barrier line is faster. I believe the finish is going to be on the stretch of course immediately paral...

After we switched the camera the view isn't so good. Here's a link to the course map. Guest commentary by Joe Sullivan. I hadn't eaten all day and thought I was going to tip over.

Glenwood Academy Preride. I couldn't figure out how to get the stats to load, but I didn't break 400 watts or 13 mph.

Only one wrong turn! And then I cut off the section with the railroad ties.

Cat 3/4 Race at Quarry Cross. Hosted by EMC2 Masters Cycling. Really fun new venue. Bumpy, washy corners, mtb features. Lot of fun, lots of crashes.

The moment you have all been waiting for! A 39 year old racing poorly! I didn't love this course, lots of jerky turns. Start chute was a mess!

Cat 4 race, with commentary. It was a really fun course. Pretty hilly, plenty of grip. Great times!
If you wrap top to bottom you don't need any electrical tape. And it looks 1000x better.
Bless
Awesome, thx! A perfect substitute to a pre-ride…
I had to bribe them to let me, and said that it would help others since they couldn't Preride.
Straight to jail.
Thanks for posting these. They have come in handy to show some riders.
It's been fun! Today I was called an influencer. I feel so cool. See you tomorrow!
Are we still pretending this course isn't totally sketch? Woodchips?! Bunch of people got hurt pre-riding. Multiple people wound up at the hospital last year too.
@@myoung14 the course is pretty narrow in some spots. I don't think the berms or bridges are an issue. They are hazards of the course, there are alternate lines to all of the mtb features. You have less grip on gravel and mulch so you need to ride appropriately, if you don't you might get hurt. I think we need more features that challenge peoples abilities in different ways, our races generally don't need a lot of handling skills. IMHO the young juniors shouldn't be able to finish the full course on the main lines because it requires you to do hard things that young kids likely can't do yet.
@@TonyPizzaBikes Ok tell all the novice riders that they "need to ride appropriately" or they might wind up with broken bones or in the hospital with a head and/or neck injury. Cyclocross courses need to be designed with the bikes and riders in mind. If SO many people are getting serious injuries, the course should be modified. You can have a course configuration for novice and junior riders and open up the riskier features for the riders in the experienced categories. Or, don't call it a cyclocross course, call it an XC course and invite people to bring their mountain bikes. To be clear to anyone reading this far, I am friends with Kevin and appreciate and respect him. He's awesome and this is just a discussion about amateur bike racing.
@@myoung14 I get what you are saying, but one of everyone's main goals should be to not crash or crash anyone else out. Like above winning, because if you crash you won't win. Unless you are Tom Pidcock. When I've done races elsewhere I've had to think "can I do this" I don't have to think that very often in our series (mainly due to terrain). Yes, Mikey and I are friends. I was going to say that we should have this discussion while building trails at Big Marsh.
Were there any injuries race day? I hope not.
I broke my hand on one of the berms today (newb training error). should've trusted the successful low lines I took. have a safe race yall!
@@francaisecole5053 I saw! Kassi showed me your story then I added you on insta and messaged you! So sorry to hear that!
Another rider broke a finger. Those features are meant for experienced riders on mountain bikes. Was sad to see you blaming yourself. It's not your fault.
Was it slick?? I'm worried mostly about muddy tires and small cross knobs. Last year was so dry but this year😅
@ragethomas no, my tires had mud clumped on them but only the couple of really muddy spots were slick. Any mud on your main tread will be gone by the time you get to the berms. Grass, gravel, cement, asphalt, then berms. You have about as much grip as you'd expect on gravel and mulch.
@@myoung14 thanks. I took a low line successfully 2 or 3 times and then tempted fate :( Ah well. Can't wait for next year!
Dude, love the commentary…. A turtle is exponentially faster than me rn….
@@mejdrichjThanks! Same buddy! I was hoping to race tomorrow but I am still having issues breathing due to a chest injury. It doesn't hurt, I just can't go fast.
love the calorie counter in the bottom right
No data this week. I forgot my camera and bike computer. I had to ride it one handed hiding my phone. Upoading now.
*Taps rule book* That start wasn't 250m.
Any advice on skills to practice for this course?
Thanks for these vids they're helping me prep!
@@francaisecole5053 sorry, just saw these. Lots of turning. Nothing really technical at all! Happy to help, stop by our tent tomorrow and say hi!
I agree about the night cross race! I have talked to Ty about seeing if we can make it happen.
Is the "under construction" part where the infamous sand is?
@@francaisecole5053 no, but the sand is not included. At least in day one. I don't believe it will be in day two, but I don't know everything.
I can't tell if your serious with all this toilet talk. It sounds like ya washed that bb with some Drano.
TYSM! I can't for the life of me see the "finish" in orange--is something wrong with me??? Thanks again!
@francaisecole5053 it was spray painted sideways on the ground. It's just somewhere near the blue tent.
@@TonyPizzaBikes aha! Really appreciated the commentary on your vid--super helpful! HAGR!
@francaisecole5053 happy to help! See you out there today! I won't be racing but I'll be around from around 10 on
Shout out to the high bb on the colnago prestige
What’s weird: this was the direction we went last time I did CamptonCX
@@thesullivenge I've never gone this direction.
Love it! Great course.
It’s the Kevin commentary for me: “My moms texting me😊”
