It amuses me when people call cities with thousands of people "small towns." I grew up in Carpenter, S. Dakota. My parents, two siblings, and I made up 1/4 of the population (i.e. the population of was TWENTY). Willow Lake, where I went to school, seemed HUGE by comparison, because it had 300 people in it! It's the I5 bridge over Lake Shasta. Bridge Bay Road is a small road a ~mile south from there, the exit you skipped at 1:40.

I used to pull a mt 48 footer once a week from Phoenix to Prescott to swap out and used to piss off people going up the hills just outside of Black Canyon City because the signs said slower traffic stay right well I was flying by every truck but just because I was slower than everyone behind me they thought I should be in the right lane and I was only going 5 mph slower than the cars behind me and they were going 5 mph faster than the posted limit.

This stupid technique (which ONLY Oregon requires) scared the cr@p out of me the first time I encountered it. I was a northeast US / eastern Canada regional driver who only occasionally got past the Midwest. On my second trip to the west coast, I had picked up a load around Portland and was heading eastward going up Cabbage. I was in a line of trucks climbing in the right lane, all about 1 car-length apart, when suddenly there was a slower truck climbing on the shoulder! I'd never seen such a thing being done anywhere else in all of North America!!

That's not Ashland hills, that's the Siskyous. I worked on that piece of road for years, all you smell is hot brakes. 5 miles of 6% grade. Dangerous place, be smart drivers.
