Dawn Phoenix Folk Show (Ep. 5) - Joe Callahan & Brian ("Under Oath" & "If It Were Only That Easy")
Joe Callahan joined us in the studio in June of 2024, and shares his original song called "under oath" which he explains a little about in our chat... Joe hosts a show on cfcr community radio in Saskatoon... check it out! So Many Roads is a radio program that Joe hosts Monday mornings on a bi-weekly basis on CFCR 90.5FM in Saskatoon. The show features blues, folk and country music with a heavy emphasis on Canadian artists from western Canada, most particularly Saskatchewan. Joe also keeps the longer/complete interviews with songwriters from the so many roads show (where he mostly shares short clips of the interviews and plays lots of the artists music instead!) on shares those full interviews on his youtube channel...

In honour and remembrance of Bruce's contributions and living practice
with songwriting and various other living traditions all to eventually be introduced on this shows upcoming special guests! (we may end up calling the show "Living Traditions")
Stay tuned for more shows! we'll have singer songwriters, story tellers and poets and more sharing traditional and original songs, stories, wisdoms, poems, interviews and chit chat... We're excited for all the collaborations on the way with a wide variety of hum drumming folk strumming chums on the playful way!

no lie...I was oogling oggling (mybad english) those mikerafones in the first 10 seconds, They are good!! All of a sudden I heard like a donut monster voice and no ones lips moved and Kaia was playing a wicked pentatonic donut blues on her fiddle,,,oh my! so much for running commentary cuz BOOM all of a sudden you guessed it, THE SINGING DONUT MONSTER APPEARS (Fred?)

@@brianpauldg The list of songs about longing for home and going home is long and great. Homeward Bound. 500 Miles from Home. Don't It Make You Want to Go Home. In 'California,' Joni longs to return to California; in 'River,' it's Christmas and Joni is dreaming of ice skating, presumably in Canada. After starting this reply, I started noodling around to find out something more about the earliest home song I knew, 'Goin' Home,' and my reading took me down a lovely rabbit hole. I had known the Frank Sinatra version of that song. He thought of it as a Christmas song. I discovered that the music to it was written by Antonin Dvorak, the Czech classical composer, in the 1910s after he'd come to the US to help develop a center for the preservation of American music. One of his students thought the structure of it was similar to that of what were then called Negro spirituals and wrote lyrics for it, and the song 'Goin' Home' was born.. Paul Robeson sang it at Franklin Roosevelt's funeral. Carl Lester, playing Robeson, sang a gorgeous version of it in the movie Eleanor and Franklin. And the US military still digs it, and I dig what they've done here: th-cam.com/video/N_HMTE_9psY/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=TheUnitedStatesArmyBand%22Pershing%27sOwn%22. Anyway, your tune belongs on the list of great 'home' songs & Christmas songs. It's great the way you did it and to my ear it could be arranged in other ways too. Like, I'd like to hear how Tuba Skinny would play it. Like Fairy Tale of New York, the melody sounds as though it is of this earth and must always have existed.
