Sweet City Woman by The Stampeders Ukulele Tutorial
มุมมอง 34K6 ปีที่แล้ว
Just a video of how I play this song. I combined two tutorials I liked, added a little, and made this. Chords- 0:55 Strumming- 1:48 Bridge- 2:50 End example: 3:28
How are you doing these days? Get out of college now i'm sure. This was 6 years ago. Our daughter is just now in her Freshman year. She's an only child...
I'm doing good! I got a puppy so my days consist of making sure she doesn't chew things up and taking her on little adventures! She was not a fan of when I played the ukulele so I'll have to try that again!
Well done! ❤
I love, love, love this happy old song!!! I enjoyed it in high school in the 1970's. 💖💖💖
Ese instrumento es un cuatro
Si dices que el instrumento tiene cuatro cuerdas/es un ukelele, estás en lo cierto
Over thirty years ago, I briefly became acquainted with Rich Dodson, the writer of the song "Sweet City Woman" and the guy who plays the banjo on the song with his group The Stampeders. What I can tell you without a doubt is if he has seen this video, he loves it. You have done a terrific job.
Wow, that is amazing that you were acquainted with him! Thank you so much :)
A very nice twist on a classic gem that never gets old, that I heard when it was new. ✌️👍
I wish I has the skills to make music to make music like you! Awesome choice of a song, so simple, but has meaning to me growing up in the 70's. Thank you!
Ever since I first heard this song, it has become a favorite!
I wanna jam with u
Released May 1971, #10 on BB Top 100. CORRECTION: G TO G6 is used ALWAYS, EXCEPT for opening chords. After that it is like this throughout song: G G6 G G6 Am Am9 Am Am9 WELL, I’M ON MY WAY TO THE CITY LIFE Am Am9 Am Am9 G G6 G G6 TO A PRETTY FACE THAT SHINES HER LIGHT ON THE CITY NIGHTS Great video. I enjoyed it very much.
In the Cleveland Ohio area this song was played a LOT during the break segments of the Big Chuck and Lil' John Show back in the 80's.
😱😳 OMG! You Rock. I've always wanted to play the ukon but was afraid. I guess it just wasn't big enough for me to hold. But I'm tipping my hat to you. Because it's awesome not only for you to break it down on how to use the cords. But then you played the song. Has the Stampeders ever reached out to you. I'm impressed
Thank you! It is a very fun song to play!
@@stellarstar5 you're being modest. I think you're pretty good. Do you know any more 70's songs? Keep up the good work. BTW can you play Hungarian Rhapsodies or Song of fire and ice on that lol, just curious
@@vaughnwright521 I don't think I know any more 70's songs that I can think of but I bet there are many more that would be fun to play. And ahaha I haven't heard of those two!
@@stellarstar5 Hi there. I have a question. Is the yuk the your only instrument or do you play others?
@@vaughnwright521 the one and only!
I play it on a banjo ukulele!
Nice! I bet it sounds great!
Great song. Thanks for the work and demo. Sounds right :)
Aloha, when that bass dropped 3:30 you were wailing ;) grateful that you broke the rhythm and chords down so precise. I wanted to play this song and you helped me figure that out. Peace and love.
Ahaha I’m glad the video was helpful!
Hey Star!! How have you been? I still think of you every time I hear this song. Have you graduated? I hope you're doing great and hope we can catch up sometime soon 💓
Hi Robert! I’m glad the song brings good times. I’m doing well and hope you are too!
This is awesome thanks so much!
What a great audition . You're hired !
Nice done!
Great toot!
Great lesson! That being said, I am a couple of inches from tossing my uke in a fire.
Ahaha oh no! You got it!
You make it look easy,
So glad you figured out this song for us rather than studying for your finals !! Really nice job !! Hope you did ok on your finals, thanks again..
I loved it! My only complaint: you stopped the video too soon. I wanted to hear you play more!
Hi anyone passing through! Hope you enjoy this video I made way back when. I edited the original video so it should be more concise! Also I kind of messed up explaining the bridge so here it is below: (G) - D UD DD UDD D UDUD Bon, c'est bon, bon, bon, c'est bon, bon (C) (G) Bon, c'est bon, bon, bon, bon, bon. (G) - D UD DD UDD D UDUD Bon, c'est bon, bon, bon, c'est bon, bon (C) (G) Bon, c'est bon, bon, bon, bon, bon. 1 down strum on the following part: (C) (G) So long, ma. (Am) (G) So long, pa. (Am) (G). G (DUD) Gpinky (DD) G (UDU) G (strum up and down as the song exits the bridge) So long, neighbors and friends. Hope your year has started out well! :)
I watched your video years ago, then recently heard this song on the radio and came back to watch again, so thanks for the updated version. You're awesome, so if it's OK, may I follow you on social media? I live and work in the LA area, so if you ever want to get into the entertainment industry...
Thanks, awesome tutorial btw
Awsome ! As a Canadian growing up in the 70s ,, I loved this band and song.. Great job figuring it out on the uk 😉👍
It really is a great song and it's so fun to jam to!
Nice !!!!
This is an awesome tutorial. Thx so much for sharing. 💞
Who would give this a thumb down? You go girl!
Ahaha thank you!
GREAT tune. From the intro to fade out. PERFECTION!
Ah why thank you!
Wow: great lesson I'm still trying to master the acoustic guitar and open chords; I'd love to learn this song soon!
It’s such a fun song to play!
@@stellarstar5a fun song all around: looks easy to learn too :)
Fuck, what a great tune! Thanks again
Nice
Really nice job one of the few and good lessons on this song!
Thank you so much! I admired two lessons but decided to make my own and combine parts of each!
LOVE this song. A very nastolgic tune from my youth. Great teaching, and thank you for sharing. "I'm on my way":-)
Thank you so much!
Watching this May 2021! Thank you for the tutorial! I just got a Ukulele and this is a great song to learn.
I’m so glad you enjoyed it! Welcome to the uke community!
My pinky hurts, but I love it. Ain't no gain without the pain
Ahaha agreed! It took a bit for my pinky to get used to it. Glad you enjoy the song!
Thanks 4 the tutorial my dad loves this song. Could you please let me know the strumming for the bridge .
So sorry for the late reply! ~busy times~ The bridge (starting on G) goes D UD DD UDD D UDUD (then to C) D (then to G) D then repeat that. For the line starting at "So long ma" One open down strum each note - C when he sings "so", G on the word "long" , one on Am on "so" and then G. One strum on Am and then G and then play the usual G + pinky part before he sings "neighbors and friends". Let me know if that helps!
I love this song, and it is so fun that you figured out the chords to play it on a ukulele. It sounded really good when you were playing right along with the song!
Plz make more
You should challenge davie504 on yt
Nail'd it👍
Awesome Star! When I was stationed in Germany in the 90’s a few friends in our unit formed a band and played mainly stuff of our youth in the 70’s and 80’s. For this tune I’d play the banjo at gigs if we had a bass player to sit in for me. If not, I’d stay on bass and our regular keyboardist would play the ukulele on the banjo parts. I rather play bass on that tune because I just love that bass line. But, I didn’t mind sitting in on banjo either. Thanks for sharing your love of music and not being selfish with your knowledge to teach others that wanted to maybe learn this cool song from our rich musical past. Much Aloha and stay safe! 🤙🏾🤙🏾
Kealii, thank you very much for sharing! I love hearing what memories and stories this song is tied to. Playing bass and banjo must have been fun since you were able to experience the song from two different perspectives. Wishing you well and an early Happy New Year!
Yo I love it. I'm in utah watching this in my room stumble on this song this morning before work.
Nice job! Takes me back a half-century...sigh.
d'Artagnan thank you! And I totally feel that sigh
Nice job. Try it on a Banjolele and you really get the sound. :) Thanks for sharing!!
Fred Stemp Thank you! Having a banjolele would be so fun, especially for this song!
@@stellarstar5 I'm working on your lesson with mine. If it's any good I'll share it with you. Thanks again!!
Fred Stemp ah that’d be great! This song would sound so good on a banjolele! Cheers!

Wow, good job!
Si bon!! Keep makin dem oldies new again! ;)
Thanks! ✌🐸👍💙🎵
Not to nitpick (as you pick your ukelele, lol), but Sweet City Woman came out in the summer of 1971, not 1973. Nice job on the tutorial!
David oops, thank you for correcting me!
