1995 AMOC Thruxton
มุมมอง 25814 วันที่ผ่านมา
August Bank Holiday 1995 and the AMOC holds a joint race meeting with the Porsche Owners Club at Thruxton circuit in Hampshire. Based on an old airfield, this is one of the UK's fastest circuits - too fast, in fact, for the pre-war cars most of which would spend almost the entire lap in top gear! The audio and video on this film are not as good as those shot earlier in the summer, but at least ...
1995 AMOC Silverstone, 46th St John Horsfall
มุมมอง 27114 วันที่ผ่านมา
The annual St John Horsfall race meeting was always the pinnacle of the AMOC club racing scene, and never more so than in 1995 - the Club's Diamond Jubilee year. Highlights of the meeting include Barry "Whizzo" Williams debuting the new (fuel injected) Goldsmith & Young DB6, and the Robin Hamilton Le Mans V8 RHAM 1 making a rare on track appearance. This amateur video of the day includes: 0:00 ...
1995 AMOC Snetterton
มุมมอง 16014 วันที่ผ่านมา
This sixty minute home movie was made nearly thirty years ago, using a Sony 8 camcorder and a shotgun mike aimed straight at the PA loudspeaker. It captures much of the atmosphere and the action from the first race meeting of the Aston Martin Owners' Club Diamond Jubilee season in 1995. Anyone who enjoyed AMOC Club racing in that era will be thrilled by the variety of cars taking part and the d...
What I did on my holidays...
มุมมอง 1629 หลายเดือนก่อน
Last Monday was the Adelaide Cup Day public holiday here in South Australia. The temperature reached 38' C, so I parked GY541 in the sun for four hours to soften up that seven and a half year old vinyl wrap. After that the green and yellow colours (which took two and a half days to put on) came off in only two and a half hours, working entirely with my bare hands. I gather that I was lucky: the...
SS15 Old Norton Summit

I like this video even though it isn't especially fast: Kyle was 3 seconds quicker in the afternoon but I still had a bit of "somebody else's car" syndrome going on. However, all three cameras fired up and you get a good idea of what's going on during the drive. I especially enjoyed the LH hairpin at 2:00 minutes (or 1:39 on the lap timer) where a bunch of spectators are ringing cowbells, Euro ...
2023 Adelaide Rally Tour (Packet 1) - livestream summary
มุมมอง 139ปีที่แล้ว
A big shout out to Adelaide Rally 2023 for the live stream they provided from six stages - I hope this isn't infringing any copyright? (Let me know and I'll take it down if it is). Each ran for about two hours, so I went through and copied just the three or four minute clips covering our tour group and stitched them together into this compilation. It's really meant for those who were in the gro...
2.0 RF LE - quickest lap yet (2:31.4)
มุมมอง 252 ปีที่แล้ว
Previously I struggled to get this car around the International Circuit in even 2:35, due mainly to the original Bridgestone tyres, I suspect. Moving from 205/45 S01s on 17x7" BBS wheels to 225/45 Yokohama A08Rs on 16x8" Enkei RPF1s has made a huge difference. Other improvements are limited to upgraded Whiteline sway bars and Verus Engineering flat underbody panels, but their combined effect is...

I thought this would be about the other DBs: Deutsche-Bonnet, LOL.
Another of the little clubs that sadly has vanished
Some lovely and rare historic Astons, great to see.
@9:00 the dip across the 2nd apex is unsettling!
If we ever get an earthquake, that perfect tetris shed wall storage system will be amazing
Good lap Tim
Are you enjoying it turbocharged?
Just driving in the Tour again: definitely not racing!
Looks like so much fun! I'm definitely doing this next year! You racing this week?
I've got a i20N coming soon and they do the same thing must have a stiff chassis, I'll be getting front and rear strut tower braces so should do it even more!
Hey Tim, great lap and the mx5 looked stunning (I own an na for the record). I was the white excel and just wanted to let you know how much we all enjoyed your comment about the slow one. He actually put us onto your video and will now always be known accordingly. Keep it up!
Thanks Daniel. I didn’t mean to upset anyone - if I could hustle a road registered Excel around at that speed I’d feel pretty pleased with myself! I’ve no idea how the rest of you go so fast. I guess it’s the difference between a purely track prepped car and one that can be (and is) driven through the city to work every day. Actually, I have a similar video of the preceding lap when you all streamed past me and then I had a front row seat watching “the slow one” three wheeling around several of the tighter bends. Watch this space…
How is your 1.5 turbo going? Have you sorted out the new turbo setup? I'm possibly looking at getting a 1.5 in the future as a track/ Hillclimb car, is the stock 1.5 still fun at the bend or would you recommend the turbo kit?
Hi Ben. The 1.5 is going well, thanks, but is still a work in progress. AVO has now produced a cold air intake and breather kit which makes them run better (corrects the crankcase ventilation pressures). I’m waiting to fit that and get the fundamentals right before I turn up the wick any more. I’ve also had to fit a bigger radiator and an oil cooler to try to control under bonnet temperatures. It’s already melted two turbo coolant inlet pipes. Fun, but expensive. At the moment I’m having more fun with the RF! But the 1.5 is entered in the Tour section of this year’s Adelaide Rally in six weeks, so that will be a good time. Watch this space.
Hey what exhaust do you have? Goodwin racing?
Hi Ben. Yes,a Roadstersport Race axle back - the one that’s just a Helmholtz chamber hanging off a plain pipe. I’ve had custom twin tail pipes fitted so that if looks just like a factory tail section. But the front part is standard 1.5L exhaust. Possibly the most entertaining mod I ever did.
He should have let you go and learned the track and driving skills on his own. Who brakes there, c'mon R8 boy!!
This was towards the end of our third session of the day, so we’d all done 15 or 16 laps by then. The track hadn’t changed noticeably. To be fair, I would have got frustrated following me down the straights at 160kmh if I’d been driving that. It must be about four times as powerful as my car. Didn’t get away much in the corners though.
Tires? Lsd?
Toyo Proxes 888R in an alleged 195/50x16 - although they’re nearly as big as the 205/50x16 Goodyears I run on the street. They have a similar effect to switching from Road to Soft in a Gran Turismo game! LSD is whatever the factory put in it, a 2016 1.5GT, so at least it’s got one. I haven’t even started on the engine yet, let alone the transmission.
Good clean lap Tim. Nice.👍
Thanks Chris. The fastest line for a low powered car is very different to what you see the V8s do on the tv. Most noticeable through turns 6-10, as the uphill approach to T7 means I haven’t gathered enough speed to use all of the track in 8/9/10! Still learning, and still accelerating out of T10 on occasion.
The engine and gearbox are standard, but not the exhaust. More importantly, the tyres, brakes and suspension are all very non-standard. Originally, as standard, it was 15 seconds a lap slower than this. For a normally aspirated 135bhp/95kw street car with leather seats, aircon, satnav etc, I’m pretty happy with it. (A good driver would go several seconds quicker than me, so driver training comes next).
I bought a 1.5 gt myself last Friday. It's a lot of fun. My heart wanted an nd2 but my brain said it's not worth another $20k! What tyres and suspension are you running? Any mods to brakes?
@@Shadowstormau Hi Sam. Back then I was running the Whiteline Gripkit - stiffer lower springs and uprated sways on OEM shocks. Sways are brilliant - do it - but couldn’t recommend springs. Choppy, uncomfortable, too low. Fitted MCA Street Supersports (one down from Reds) at the start of this year. Brilliant again. Best way to spend $3k of the $20k you just saved! Also Nielex front suspension knuckles from Rev 9. Exhaust is a GWR Roadstersport Race tacked onto the factory midpipe. It’s just a plain pipe with a Heimholz chamber hanging off it. Tyres were Toyo888R - lots of grip, but again not recommended. Too noisy all the time. Save up for Yokohamas, or else go Nangkang or Hankook. Have fun.
I picked up a used gwr race exhaust a couple of days ago and wow you're so right it completely changed the car from grocery getter to a little roar machine.
Further following in your footsteps I just put the order in for the mca pro sports!
Sounds so good. Is it stock?
Nice drive and it looks like your 5th does give you a little more than in the clio. Love that track and hope to get to the east track this year.
Thanks Cris, it was a good day out wasn’t it? You’re too kind about my driving - nowhere near smooth enough yet. May see you there next year? I’ve got GoPro footage and car telemetry (revs & throttle position) synced to the Track Addict now as well. Watch this space...
I doubt I will be there next year as I have to drive from Melbourne and it depends if I upgrade the brakes first.. As they are stock now and struggled a bit. I have some gopro footage of you from inside my car if you're interested? On that note, do you have any of me from the 3rd session ? (I carried on our road trip afterwards) Let me know please. Look forward to your next vid 😁
Great driving Tim ! Considering the power deficit compared to everyone else that day and the soft suspension/body roll.. You did bloody excellent mate. Thanks for your friendship that day too ! 👍
