SK is good to own 👍
I have some Indestro wrenches, great design aesthetics; have some Miller's Falls punches, are they a well-regarded brand?
Indestro and miller's falls is great brands Indestro ratchets and sockets are great they were made in Chicago Illinois just like S-K they where affordable good quality tools
@@Donthetoolman ty for the info, love your channel!
You're welcome my friend glad you love it I appreciate it
I just went to Amazon and individual SK sockets are real cheap..Are those knockoffs..Love SK but I know they were borderline pricey years ago..Any advice?
The ones on Amazon probably are sk China made sockets by great star I'm assuming some people say the quality is there but others are disappointed in the quality I for one have no experience with Chinese sk products unfortunately but in my opinion vintage sk is the best
Love old SK tools!! They were great tools! Very popular in my area!! 6 point are the rarer ones!! Thanks Don!!
@jefftovani5535 you're welcome my friend to find a whole matching set in metric might take a lifetime
It is fun chasing down the old tools! I never started out as a SK collector, but it just keeps finding its way to my shop as well. But the question is, do you collect SK and SK Wayne separately or combine them? Good luck!
@westhighlandsshop I combine them for now I don't have a complete set of any brand when it comes to sockets and wrenches I could if I went the ebay route probably but I try to avoid it as much as I can it's more fun to find them in the wild and my wallet thanks me lol thanks for watching my friend
Going by memory, Swiss cheese that it is, Symington Wayne Corp bought SK in 1962, and held it until 1969. That's close anyway. I used SK wrenches for decades, have them up to at least 2", maybe one or two larger. Lectrolite and SK had some sort of deal between them going on in the 50's and both got bought up by Wayne in '62. Anything Lectrolite or Tru-Fit is a good wrench, I think it was that SK needed a line of wrenches to go along with their socket sets and Lectrolite filled that need. The Wayne marking makes for easy ID as 60's era tools. SK sold well around here so wrenches and sockets turn up at estate sales frequently. The largest auto part store in the county was an SK dealer into the early 2000's
@RockIsland1913 thanks for that info my friend yeah I hear ya on memory I often forget things you're right lectrolite and tru fit are good brands I have a Tru Fit wrench from the 30s it's 7/16 and it is very snug on a bolt so when they called their tools Tru Fit they weren't lieing thanks for watching take care my friend
Nice Don! I will keep an eye out for them for ya!
@Uwannawatch thanks I appreciate it brother I got some stuff to send to you
They are out there keep looking and you can build a real good set or sets.
@JefferyBurchett ill keep on the lookout thanks for watching my friend
I have a set of USA made SK metric raised panel wrenches. The edges on the raised panels are rounded, unlike the sharp edges of the Craftsman raised panels.
@mlieser1230 I agree the craftsman raised panels are sharp around the edges that's one thing that I didn't like about craftsman don't get me wrong they are a good looking wrenches design and the fitment of the older craftsman wrenches are spot on and they work great just a wrench I would use on quick jobs due to the sharpness of the raised panel
Hi Don. I have 4 Proto -Challenger wrenches, 5/8, 22mm, 15/16, 1 5/16 Would you have any interest
@donwendling7800 I think I have only one proto challenger wrench and it's 14mm I like them satin finish wrenches for sure I would be definitely interested Don
Those are the best versions of sk !
I agree thanks for watching my friend take care
USA FOREVER!
Hell yeah brother USA forever the best nation in the world
Hey Don. Nice show. See ya soon.
Thanks brother
Great vid i have the blue and red
Thanks my friend I appreciate it
That's a pretty good little ratchet, i have had mine and its sister bit driver for a couple of years now. Don't reef on them to hard and they hold up pretty well. I had mine skipping teeth after a few months and O'Reilly's warrantied it out no problem.
Thanks for the info it's good to see they uphold the warranty thanks for watching my friend
Before you upload something, at least check to see if you even caught what you were recording for.
You have a knack for finding some nice vintage tools!! I always love seeing what you find next!! Thanks Don as always!!
Thanks I'll try to keep them coming my friend
The red, blue, orange are aluminium!! The black is steel!! These micro ratchets are neat, awesome for tight areas!!
They really are convenient Jeff that's for sure every tool box needs one in my opinion I've really changed my views over the years on 1/4 inch drives they do have a purpose after all wish the young me would of realized that lol so many jobs would have been much easier with the little 1/4 inches probably would have eliminated removing a bunch of parts to get to what needed to be replaced thanks for watching my friend
That’s a “cool little tool!” Anyone interested in tools at all should be watching “Jeffs Garage Adventures!”
Those look like a nice ratchet to have in the collection. I thought they were all aluminum handled.
I think the red and blue and I can't remember all the colors lol are the aluminum ones it is a nice one tor the collection I'm planning on doing my entire ratchet collection here soon it's not much maybe 20 but it will be neat i think thanks for watching my friend
Kool Tool!
I just noticed I got the part # backasswards in thr description it should be 964a instead of 946a lol thanks for watching my friend
Great find. Thanks for sharing.
You're welcome my friend thanks for watching
Interesting find.
It sure is Dale glad I found it thanks for watching my friend
Really nice little ratchet!
Thanks my friend I think so also most my tools are vintage USA and I prefer it to be that way but modern tools you just have a limited choice of USA products especially automotive tools which is sad so if I do buy something overseas I watch youtube tool reviews and get what I need to make my decision on what I'm going to spend my money on the quality has gotten alot better with overseas tools since the 80s but every now and then you get a paperweight unfortunately I just wish we had more USA tool manufacturers to choose from its sad how corporate greed has destroyed this country they have definitely destroyed the Middle class and eventually they will put us all in the same boat
@@Donthetoolman I couldn't agree more!
Thanks Don , i have the red version, very handy 1/4" ratchet. Thanks for the video
You're welcome my friend
Wow!!! I love it!! I really love ratchets!!I bet its a strong ratchet!! Little lube always helps!! That's one I make a shadow box for!!! I wouldn't use it,just display it!!
Thanks Jeff for your take on it yeah I'm not going to use it as much as I'd love too it's been in that condition for 50 years it would be really cool if it could go another 50 in that condition a shadow box is a great idea thanks for watching my friend take care
Boy Don you always to good finding these vintage tools, you got a nack for it,no doubt!!
Thanks Jeff it really helps when you grew up using these tool brands if I didn't they would just be names on tools and would look like anything else out there so that helps but these vintage tools are becoming more scarce as time goes on unfortunately, brands you'll never see again that's why I like doing this to get history out there I know it's not important to some and that's ok different strokes for different folks as they say but I still think it's important for this younger generation to know that we had great USA tool brands out there and how corporate greed has destroyed these once great American tool companies thanks for watching my friend take care
That ratchet looks like it was Never used!
It hasn't been I was the first to take it out of the package I'm debating on using it I can't make up my mind I do like it very smooth thanks for watching my friend
Hey Don see if that wrench will ratchet on the open end. Put it on a nut and check it out, thanks
I'll try that you might be on to something thanks for watching my friend
What a beautiful find! The New Britain made quick release ratchets are a very rare item indeed, let alone a NOS example. I'm in CT and have yet to find a quick release version at flea markets, yard sales etc. The Kilness design was way ahead of its time as far as smoothness is concerned. They can be smoother than todays 72, 90 and 120 tooth ratchets. Thanks for sharing!
I agree new Britain was ahead of their time nobody else even ventured to copy the design sk was the most copied round head mechanism I'm assuming because it's cheaper to make that design as opposed to new Britain's design but I agree even with 46 teeth it still feels just as smooth as a 90 tooth thanks for watching my friend take care
I have a USA made Husky like this except mine isn't quick release
Thanks for sharing that new Britain husky are nice anything new Britain for that fact is
I have a 1/2" drive HUSKY USA with the black finish, non quick release. Thanks for the video
You're welcome my friend @91Z50
Don I would have paid $2 just for that funky wrench because it's different and nice little lot of sockets. Take care Brother!
Yeah 2 dollars for a funky wrench I get ya George you're like me when it comes to something odd you just got to have it and learn all you can about it take care brother
Kind of an oddball wrench
It is kina odd for sure I have never seen one like it thanks for watching my friend
Hard to pass that lot up for $2
It sure was I didn't have much time they were about to close so who knows what I left behind but I think I got a few goodies thanks for watching my friend
Strange wrench, need to find more history on it. Thanks for sharing
@91Z50 yes I do I'll try my friend
Nice find bruv. I love the recognition of earlier times with your grandpa.
Thanks for Watching my friend he was awesome for sure wish I had all the tools he gave Me alot of Williams billings indestro sk craftsman fleet new Britain Fairmount just good USA made tools so when I see something my grandfather used to have I grab just for the memories of what I can remember
Those were actually pretty strong ratchets great video
Thanks my friend they are tanks for sure
Great find, thanks for sharing.
Thanks and thanks for watching my friend
Father hello ok i have a question for you father how come i have more videos and you have left i only have 61 subscribers and you have 152 whats up with that
I don't know but I'm here cheering you on I love you my girl
Wright still makes open head ratchets, they even have a dual sided one with 3/8 and 1/4 inch drive (# 3482)
Wright I believe is the only one that does damn good tool company and its still USA thanks for watching my friend
Nice find!
Thanks my friend glad you like it I also have the Phillips head#2 version somewhere just can't find it 😀
I bought a new Snap-On 3/8" drive swivel head ratchet in '88, that thing broke every other time I used it for normal tasks. After the third time in less than a month it was the Snap-On dealer who suggested I buy SK ratchets and then gave me crap about the warrantee. All of a sudden the supply of rebuild kits evaporated, backordered indefinitely. That crap ended quickly when a lawyer got involved and corporate found out, I ended my association with Snap-On over that and bought SK ratchets as had been suggested, and continued to use my old Easco as well. I never broke any of my Easco ratchets, and only wore out the pivots on my SK swivel head ratchets. These round head ratchets may not do well in tight quarters, but they hold up very well over the long term. I still pick them up at estate sales. That Snap-On ratchet was replaced with a new one, and I tossed it into a closet where it remains to this day. Indestro made good tools, and like the name implied they could stand up to commercial use.
You can't go wrong with sk for sure and indestro is right behind them I love these old gems thanks for watching my friend
I love that handle!
I do too my friend when I had that same ratchet in use from my grandfather it was my baby along with the Williams s53 thanks for watching my friend I appreciate it
I’ve got my dads 1/2 sae set of sockets and ratchet that I bought for him many years ago. Seeing these makes me wanna give them some attention.
That's cool I'm glad my video sparked an interest in you wanting to give your father's set some attention it will be well worth it if you do thanks for watching my friend
@@Donthetoolman his set resides in an 80’s Craftsman 20” or so gray painted tool box with the red lift out tray. It was in a blue flip open metal box originally.
@Snowmannorth that's cool vintage USA craftsman is becoming gold especially now that craftsman went overseas
That's one cool looking ratchet Don!! You have a good eye for vintage tools!!!!
Thanks Jeff you just don't find indestro ratchets at yard sales and these ratchets can be kinds hard to find on ebay once in a blue moon they pop up that's how I got this one just had to be patient thanks for watching my friend
We all know how good those are!! Still in good shape for the miles they have on!! Thanks Don!!
You're welcome Jeff they do have some miles on them for sure thanks for watching
That's one I don't know about!! Love it Don,keep them coming!!
I'll do my best I'm planning on buying another set to see if it's going to be the same deal that one is in my car for good the other set will be in My collection
Love it!! Well broken in and rustic looking!! Great find don!!
Thanks Jeff it sure is I was really happy about the Harry j epstein pliers sheath
Nice find Don regardless, You know you had my attention at Kraeuter. I might do a little show and tell of my entire collection (which isn't very large} one day after I get my shop back in order. Thanks for sharing them!
You're welcome George I know how much you love Kraeuter brother and I can't wait to see your collection I know them s wrenches you got are beautiful thanks for watching brother take care
Good find well broken in!
Yes it is I might make a few mods to it someday for mechanics work lol thanks for watching my friend
Interesting set of sockets. First I've heard of the name Kraeuter. I had a set of JC Penny 3/8 12 point metric sockets that came in an orange metal case. I also had a set of JC Penny metric open end wrenches. I received both sets as a Christmas gift when I was a kid. The wrenches were polished nicely and resembled Snap-on in shape. Perhaps they were manufactured by Dresser for JC Penny.
That's what I'm thinking Dresser made some for jc penny Kraeuter has been around for over a century but no longer they where better known for their pliers at the time these sockets were made Kraeuter was just a name they had stamped on them unfortunately thanks for watching my friend
