Great memories as a kid around the workshop back then, when I got to go 💖 and still very proud of my mother's time working with the guys in the workshop 🔥🤘😎👍🔥

It's always nice to see the past but it is fruitless to 'want to be back in those days!' it was always called progress when I was a kid but now that I have finally seen what progress really meant by looking at the condition of the world today, I wish we could go back, too. O well.

Fabulous!!! What lucky people they are to be playing with such glorious toys. I think I might be able to understand something of how they feel. I will never forget the feeling, tucked under the fairing of a motorcycle approaching 200mph on a German autobahn. I content myself these days building my own short stroke Norton Domiracer special. Perhaps I might try it at Millbrook once it's together.

If it has wings or wheels it's meant to be raced, ridden, driven or flown. I once met a stupid old man who owned a Manx Norton who told me with a straight face, 'It's too valuable to be ridden'. I'm still angling for a drive in a real, pre '33 Bentley. It's always worked for me and I've driven so many things from a single seat classic FF to a Countach 😁

This is from an edition of Blue Peter on Thursday 22nd September 1988. This item is described in the show's running order as Centenary of Bentley Cars, although it is really the centenary of it's founder's birth. This was followed by something described as Young Engineers and Falcon. After that was the third film from that summers expedition to the West Coast of USA, featuring Yvette doing white water rafting. The final item was a personal pinboard make, with no more details given, but I believe this make was featured on the Here's One I Made Earlier VHS and was the one where Caron famously stuck the pocket on upside down. Incidentally the expedition film may be featured on the Summer Snaps VHS too.

We have a small B&B in Devon and were privileged to be visited some years ago by the great grand daughter of Benjafield. The stories she told........

I've been saying for a long time... If you see a 90 year old car sliding around a curve sideways, it's a Bentley. They were made to last forever.

Great video. I am a fan of Stanley Mann & Bentley's, but unfortunately, I have to complain about the sound quality (or lack of it) & the camera lens....everything all squashed up. It does not do justice to a great piece of work.

The content is excellent, but the production does not do the talent justice - poor sound, wrong lens and rather a lot of strange camera work. Must see more of Stanley Mann!

These machines were so advanced for their time, a real automotive engineering milestone. Yet it takes courage to drive "in anger" no seat belt, no air bags, no role over cage, no wind screen, no power steering, no power assisted breaks, brake fading due to over heating is a real issue, no ABS, narrow tires = reduced grip to the road, gear changing with double clutch technique ( no paddles as in a Ferrari or Aston Martin ! ) , foot pedals in a different configuration, gear stick outside the body, ignition timing is manually controlled from the steering wheel column. . . I'd like to see how a professional modern race driver races "in anger" a vintage Bentley ! Respect to the owners for their time, money & commitment invested into maintaining these priceless machines, & to the artisan skills required of the mechanics. Thank you.

Where did you get the Top Gear footage from? Do you have anymore from this event??

I remeber that show well. I was 18 and my boyfriend's dad was the Executive producer for Top Gear at the time. We had VIP treatment. I was driven round part of the Silverstone circuit in that blue Bentley by Jeremy Clarkson. He told me it was worth about £500,000. I remember the numberplate was 20 TU. I never had any pictures and so never saw it again until now!! I remember Tiff Needel zipping around on that scooter too. What a great day. Best thing to come out of that relationship!
