Bowden Tube Faceoff: Sovol vs Capricorn PTFE
Good day, Makers!
This video walks through several tests, putting Sovol's new PTFE Bowden tube offering head to head against the leading competition, Capricorn. Because I used my WeeDo ME40Pro, dual extruder/single nozzle 3D Printer for these tests, it's a true apples to apples comparison. Links below are not affiliate links, but simply reference. Feel free to leave your feedback, as I am still learning myself!

    I cant seem to get my belts 100% on correctly, straight lines keep wiggling. The one connected to the limit switch is the main issue. If I try to tighten it from the back end, it pulls the limit switch forward (because its literally 'floating') and trying to deal with the belt through that end is even worse because the belt goes through the same hole that the screw does, so just the act of putting the screw in, pushes the belt back, creating slack.

    • @ce3dprinting94
      @ce3dprinting94 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have the same set up, I believe you have the limit switch in the wrong place. Mine is located on the underside of the frame, so that it contacts the bottom wheel

    How do you focus the laser?

  • @cimjohansson4878
    @cimjohansson4878 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    You do not get the temperature you dial in, it is not a feedback guage, it's simply a number connected to where you move the dial. maby a decent estimation of where the core of the iron will eventually end upp, but as you may have seen on a printer, that really has a real sensor giving feedback to the screen showing actual temp. it takes a good while to get there. you se the number you like on the screen and push the ptfe against the tip....

    • @ce3dprinting94
      @ce3dprinting94 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting point of view! Will keep that in mind going forward

    • @tallskinnygeek
      @tallskinnygeek 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can briefly see at 5:12, after the screen displays 280, it drops back to 278 and rises again. When you adjust the temperature, it displays the target, then switches to the measurement after about a second. 3D printers have to very delicately arrive at a specific temperature and stay there. They have large thermal mass, and very low power heaters. Soldering irons can comfortably use 150W-300W heating elements, and relatively low thermal mass tip designs. This iron really can heat up 20 degrees in a few seconds, and is displaying the measured temperature after he stops touching the dial.

    • @ce3dprinting94
      @ce3dprinting94 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know much about the 2s2, specifically, but common reasons why an axis won't move usually include not connecting the wires correctly (maybe wrong ports on the board itself? ), too much tension on a belt, or a bad motor to start with. Do you have a multimeter to be able to test your connections?

    I appreciate the resource but the instructions are not very clear in your description or visually and can easily lead to a lot of errors in assembly. Very frustrating to follow along at times. For example at 16:57 when you recommend to thread the belt prior to screwing after you already finished that step. The viewer is following along so almost certainly that isn't helpful. Not trying to sound ungrateful for your video as it is helpful, but just hope future viewers can save some headaches I had.

    • @rileyneufeld7001
      @rileyneufeld7001 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is both a false statement and a dangerous one. While upgraded tubes like Capricorn can go up to 260°C and still print good well over that it is still off-gassing dangerous fumes. Now if you don't print inside your home or with proper ventilation/filtering this can be mitigated but it is still not advised. Capricorn themselves stated that while they have gone as high as 270°C and been fine they don't recommend this because it will shorten the lifespan of the tube and eventually degrade it's lubricating properties, and release even more dangerous fumes.
