Hello! What number did the grinder cut the coffee to?
Ultimate coffee nerd-out. (Looks delicious)
Can you share the recipe? Thnx!
What was the grind size you used?
Hould you reccomend a kingrinder k6, or a baratza encore esp to pair with my delonghi dedica 685?
I bought one of these recently, and I love it!
What is a bottomless portafilter and basket ? Size ?
For the ROK, it's 49mm
Ok, but you didn't measure them out, and why in the world are you spraying them while they are falling mid-air into the grinder?
It's all just a video!
How much grinder clicks did you use for aeropress?
With the C2, I think it was around 15, but I can't really remember
I dont like that it tilts when you pull the lever so the coffee tail is off center. Am I right and this happens every time with flair58?
Yes, it can happen. It's not every time, but it does happen and you don't really notice it happening.
How awesome would it be if they came out with a second model that actually had a built-in grinder that had flat burrs?
You never know :)
Great review. I’m thinking about asking for one for my birthday.
Go for it! Great little machine
Could you lose the...music?
Nick, i have seen people run water through for a preheat then the espresso shot. Have you tried? Cheers
Yes, and it does help. Though if you're getting the machine to heat the water it doubles the time to make a shot and uses up twice as much battery. I think it makes more sense if you're using already hot water :)
@@nickscoffeestudio thanks mate
I had to stop watching because of the squelch/smack/champ sound you making between each sentense. Please talk like a human.
Didn't like the noisy coffee machine
Ironically, it's one of there quiet machines out there
@@nickscoffeestudiothe thing is it’s such a high pitch whir on the meraki that’s more annoying than even the super loud vibration pump on my Silvia pro x
I agree, I’d prefer a low humm than a high pitched whine. I actually think the DVT1 Meraki was more quiet than DVT3.
Really ruined it right
I really like the music, could you give the name?
It's in my library without an artist just titled, "good night". No idea where it came from, sorry!
Very nice video. Can we not reuse the gauge that comes with the Flair?
You could… but it would be facing the wrong direction 😂
What grind size?
I can’t remember exactly, this video was shot a long time ago. But I can say that since it’s a 49mm basket, you can grind more coarse than say a 58mm basket since the puck is deeper. Also, grind size will really depend on the beans, if light roast, more fine, if dark roast more coarse. Hope this helps.
Oracle jet is not aimed at the same market as the Jet. Both are brilliant products
I think I get what you meant there, and I agree, Meraki and Jet are aimed at different markets. Both shine in their own ways, but consumers will need to decide which bracket they fall into
Do you have a link on the grinder and blow?
Can you fill two cups at once on this machine?
Yes, you can fit two small espresso cups on the scale :)
Thanks for the video Nick. Any idea how this grinder does with light roasts? Does it struggle to grind fine enough?
I have tried some medium light roast beans and I was at setting 16. I've been using mostly medium roasts at a setting in around 20 ( scale of 1 being finest to 30 being coarsest) - so yes, this will do light roasts no problem!
Do you do a pre infusion?
Yes you can do if you want to go a little more advanced with it - up to three bars, hold it there for about 5-10 seconds and then up to 8/9 bars and slowly decline :)
Thanks for the honest review, Indiegogo backer here and looking forward to retiring my Gaggia SwingUp, a faithful machine which is slowly giving up
Thanks for watching!
Really well done! Love the editing
Thank you! Appreciate the comment :)
Good until the crap about Tesla
I think it’s a valid comparison, no?
@ No. Alot more enjoyment from a Tesla. Only the sound from GTI may be missing, sometines
My point here is to state the difference to a beginner between having something that can be operated manually vs something that is fully automated. If you're into cars, having a manual gearbox means full control, but you need to know how to use it. The same way the Meraki gives you that control aspect, though you need to understand espresso. Both the Oracle Jet and Meraki make good coffee, same as how the GTI and Teslas are both good cars. The difference is in how you operate them. Some will enjoy one over the other. Both can be enjoyed immensely. But people tend to fall into one bracket or another.
Hi, can I ask what ranges of grind size are you using with those two machines? I have the same setup - Dedica + Fellow Opus and I'm quite unsure about the pump and OPV of my Dedica. I tried dozen of different coffee beans (from a supermarket, from a local roastery, speciality beans etc.) and my Dedica keeps on choking up with anything finer than 3-3,5 size on the Fellow Opus.
For the Dedica, I was at about setting 4. Don't give up! If it's choking, just go one click coarser each time, and maybe try using the inner burr adjustment too if you find yourself too quick/slow between the main steps. I know it's an awful waste of beans, but you'll get there!
@nickscoffeestudio thanks a lot for quick response and much needed motivation 😉 I will keep on trying 💪
That's like asking "What's the difference between a retinal ganglion cell and Modal Modell of memory?" Doesn't make much sense. Should have been non-pressurized vs presszrized. Has nothing to do with bottomless or not. You can have a non-pressurized with closed-bottom and vice versa.
You're right, but most people starting on their espresso journey - just like I was when I made this video - have likely seen these naked portafilter shots on YT and will know the phrases "bottomless" and "pressurised". Hence the comparison.
Been waiting for this video thank you! Excellent job as always!
Glad you enjoyed it :)
Love the comparison. How does the Meraki grinder perform if trying to grind more coarsely? Can it be used for pour over coffee?
Thanks! I asked Meraki this question before and they said it was designed for espresso specifically, allowing more fine tuneable adjustments across the range
Great video! I have no intention of of buying as i am very happy with my Flair 58 and DF83V which is a testament to your videos! Out of curiosity, what beans are you using?? My latest coffee phase/obsession is trying new quality coffee beans. I have come across some bangers!
Thanks, Larry! That's a great set up you have! Where are you based? I generally end up with medium roasts - Ireland hasn't quite gotten into lighter roasts just yet so they can be difficult to find. I also love a good Geihsa bean for pour over. And I tend to like beans grown at higher elevations. On the bar right now are some lovely Geisha beans from Peru and some Costa Rican espresso beans too - I'm always trying out new beans!
Hey! I am interested in that “modern take on Flair 58” and I already have a Cafelat Robot. I love manual machines because I teach. Would you know what price range the lever machine would launch in? It may be sth i have to save up for… 😅 people who drink coffee don’t have unlimited budget all the time 😊
Hey there! Nice, which do you prefer between the Flair and the Robot? I know that Strad Espresso have an early bird price on their site now for €590, I think the retail will be closer to €900
Thank you for this video. I am one of the first backers of Meraki through Kickstarter. It was a bit of a bet but the price discount they offered (40%) compared to the current market price was really tempting + all the videos I've watched on it convinced me to go with it. Unfortunately the machine is still not with me. They shipped it with during the first week of December but seems I will not get it at least for another month... Can't wait to set it up!
Thanks for the comment! Fingers crossed it gets there soon. I experienced delays too waiting for the DVT3. Seemed to be a carrier problem rather than Meraki. Hope you enjoy it when it arrives!
Excited for this video
Thanks! Hope you got something valuable from it :)
I was so excited to see your video pop up in my feed. You’re quickly becoming my favorite reviewer and this video did not disappoint. It was so insightful and fun to watch. Can’t wait for more videos. By the way, I think you can find a thread adapter for cheap at a home improvement store.
I really appreciate this comment :) I did try to find a thread adaptor but I couldn't find anything on short notice unfortunately. Maybe it will be a future video
Thank you Nick, for the very useful video. It was a good comparison. I am now even more looking forward to receiving my Meraki, which was shipped mid December and should arrive in a few weeks. And why not compare the Meraki to the Lelit Bianca? I would really like seeing that video. Thanks again.
If only Lelit would send me a Bianca! Maybe one day ;) Out of curiosity, what machine are you using now?
@ Thank you Nick, fingers crossed you’ll get one. Currently I am using a Nespresso capsule machine from Koenig. I‘ll be diving with the Meraki in a new world of coffee making. :-)
Wow big step up! You'll love it. :)
I subscribed a few weeks ago and you don't disappoint. Great Videos. Thanks for the comparison. I backed Meraki at Indiegogo and can't wait. But the more videos I see, the more I am happy that i might have made the right choice for beginning with making my own coffee :)
Really glad to hear you like the videos! I hope you like the Meraki when it arrives :) Do you have any machine right now?
Great comparison!
Thank you! Hope you got something from it :)
nice! finally a meraki grinder comparison! are you still using the DTV3 or is this a production model? if DTV3, has Meraki stated the differences between that grinder and the one in the production model?
As far as I know, The DVT3 and Productionn Grinders will be the same - if there are any minor updates, it can only be a good thing I guess :)
@nickscoffeestudio just finished the full video, great job testing despite not being able to fit your scace tool in there (I do think they make one that's just a 58mm basket so you could use it with the Meraki portafilter, but it's not a big deal). No need to get too particular with testing, I know Lance backed the Kickstarter and we know he's gonna get real nerdy with his. I already backed the machine on Indiegogo so if they deliver on everything I've already seen, I'll be (very) happy. Feel free to post tons of content dialing it in with different beans and doing other stuff with it though! I've watched every Meraki video on TH-cam and I just want more content to hold me over until I can get my own hands on it.
Thanks for watching :) Yeah I was looking at getting a 58mm basket one, I think I will get it for future videos, it would be handy to have! I will have more on the Meraki soon - I wish Lelit would send me a Bianca and I can compare to that! Wishes come true, right?!
Reliable sources say Meraki will develop one without a grinder. That's something I would upgrade for. I've got too many grinders already.
Yeah that's a common problem amongst us coffee fans! I'll be doing a comparison between Timemore's 064s and the Meraki soon too - just waiting on the time more stuff to arrive :) What machine are you using now?
@ I have a Breville Barista Pro paired with a Zerno Z1. Nothing out there that’s reasonably priced makes me want to retire it except the Meraki.
Nice set up - I think you're right, the Zerno is your focus point - from what I've heard it's about the best 64mm grinder out there so I understand the temptation to upgrade if there's a unit without the grinder. I'm trying to imagine the aesthetics of the Meraki with a third of it chopped off!
Thanks Nick. Great to see the grinder is actually capable. Looking forward to mine arriving from indegogo. Liked and subscribed! 👌🏻
Thank you! Hope you enjoy it as much as I have when it arrives :)
Hopefully this video gives some comfort to those who have backed the Meraki Espresso Machine! ☕ What are your thoughts?!
This built-in grinder really is that good? Or do you think its worth to upgrade grinder to stand alone after few months for example for df 64 gen 2, or Eureka mignon specialita / other?
Dove lo hai preso il braccio ? Puoi mettere il link?
What scale was that? (Not the subscale)
It’s the Normcore pocket scale! :)
This is a very tempting all in one machine. I'll definitely be following it to see how early adopters feel and are supported post purchase.
I’ll have some more content out on the Meraki soon ;)
چرا پرتافیلترش فرق داره دستگاه شما❤
I bought an upgrade from Ali Express
How is the cleaning process?
Cleaning has been pretty easy. The grinder can be easily cleaned by removing the top burr. And you get a blind basket for backflushing. The machine actually gives you step by step process for cleaning in the UI.
Hi Nick, could you tell me if a Normcore 58.5 tamper fits the Meraki portafilter/ basket or do you need the 58mm size exactly, thanks Stephen and happy new year, keep the video’s coming mate I’m really enjoying them cheers.
Yes it does fit! The tools that come with the Meraki are 58mm, but the basket will fit with 58.5mm tools
What I would pick is the WW blind shaker.
