can you please tell us about the wheels on this car?
Nice job, great video. Worth mentioning to slide the small clip on the axle before sliding the boot on. ;)
My SPG only has the drivers wiper working. I’ll have to dissect it but thank you for the detailed video!
This is tragic! But your resilience and tenacity is so inspiring.
The new generation getting into old saabs. Love it!
@@BWTECH0521 Jacob is a great and committed guy. it was crazy news to me that he was into the same cars as i was and i really enjoyed having him over for the whole process
good job!👊🏻
Cheers!
ive bought a SPG recently too! fun cars. thanks for the video, all of mine are gone
the fender mod looks great! i think the picture was of the cable throttle wire?
I've learned that each car has a lot of personality, I'm working hard to distinguish mine!
I'm 30 now and it always warms my heart when I see teens like you appreciating these older cars
@@japython means a lot! watching my dad restore his SAAB really got me into cars in general and across just about 6 years, i’ve been hooked
When I saw him struggeling up the hill, I was thinking... He must have put it in the wrong gear, but as I know who your father is, I can not think so that Tribell senior would make such a mistake.... But then you tell, the shifter was wrong adjusted, and it was actually in wrong gear, I felt good about I was right about the gear, but I also felt bad about thinking Tribell Senior could have done such a mistake.... Sorry Todd..😇🤥 Congratulations with the progress...
@@TerjeNormann thank you again for keeping up with the channel and supporting as always, and yes indeed, he was beating himself up for the issue before we both realized that we had covered an issue exactly like that in a previous video. We had reduced that error as a casualty of shifter installation during the engine drop.
My guess on the last pic is a rubber seal.
You're not off base with this guess, my only hint is to focus on the distinct "features" of this "seal".
@@BumpyRoadAheadpretty sure now it's the hatch glass seal
@@hagerlin unfortunately incorrect, maybe…. it’s not a seal👀
Great to see so much progress, congrats!
Thank you so much for supporting me and my journey!
Not gonna lie, looked at that final photo for about half and hour and I think I may be stumped. Is it the outside sill of LH rear valance side window looking towards the front of the car? I was thinking the pic was upside down at first, but then saw what seems like reflections of clouds at the bottom of it. Regardless, congrats on getting it back to running condition!
Unfortunately not, I admire your attention to minute details though! My only hint is to analyze the features of the image... I promise you it isn't what it seems to be.
To reference wisdom just offered to me, the 900 progress is awesome and the connections between you guys working together is awesomer. Making memories!
Yes siree! It's all coming together quickly and nicely!
Another saved Saab. Kudos for a great job.
Thank you!
Hey bud, I've been following your journey all the way from Turkey. Love Saab 900's. Keep at it. Good luck!
Thank you very much for supporting this journey!
Congrats on getting the Saab running!...
Very much appreciated!
One more cool video from you, Colin, and "dad"...... Thank you...
@@TerjeNormann thank you for your constant support! it’s very much appreciated.
The cracked tanks are the later version ones (90-93/ 94 vert) which are different from yours - which generally speaking, do not have issues. I repaired my 91 SPG with fuel compatible aerospace epoxy.
@@TheBTG88 neat solution, figured it was worthy to point out after filing through forums, thanks!
Is there one same spot where they all cracks, or several places to look for cracks?
@@TerjeNormann Most of the examples I have seen are on the top of tank where they start to curve down the vertical sides. If you have a crack - and the fuel smell will alert you - it will be evident where the hole is when you drop the tank.
@@TheBTG88 I have for sure smell of fuel, and that is why I ask... I replaced the two short hoses for the fuel filler neck earlier, because it did smell fuel from the outside of them too, but still I have a strong smell in the trunk, outside the car and also inside the car if it has been parked for some day closed. 1992 convertible.
Thank you for helping us to keep our beloved Saabs on the road, and helping us to teach Saab owners to do as much as possible themselves to keep costs down in our Saab hobby. Greatings to you and your awesome father, from Norway.
Thank you so much for your continued support! It means the world especially having a startup hobby and channel!
Kudos to you and your dad! Your problem was a slipping 5th gear and you proposed two methods to fix it. What would have been the first method? Remember to light your shots well, position your camera so that the viewer sees clearly and without obstruction the process you are illustrating. Go slowly. Details are most important. Tell, then show. More videos, please!
Hi! I rewatched the video to see at which point I referenced two options, I was referring to servicing the shift linkage catch, or the catch stud in the diagram that I show in the manual. Given most mechanical faults in a car can be caused by multiple factors, I had simply reduced the first method to diagnosing issues but I didn't clarify that in the video so good catch! Looking back at it now, I'd also like to add that my earliest (and most popular) videos were lower quality due to a lack of capturing equipment and editing software. I've taken bigger steps to fixing quality and video lighting to make the videos better. Yet still, the statistically best videos aren't my best work in my opinion! But, within the last few months I've settled into a high quality editor and have started to get comfy with it so hopefully I can put out better content! Thank you for your support!
Ah yes, the good ol' fuel tank strap. I imagine that's gonna be a fun video! It's a handful even when the tank is bone dry, let alone somewhat full of fuel. Informative video about the fresh air vent flap. That pesky square-holed arm is somewhat fragile cast aluminum - broke one when I was disassembling my 900 a while back. Bought a new assembly for that specific part and extra goodies, and unfortunately the "new" one was broken during transit. Luckily the salvage yard owner that I bought the used assembly from sent me another lever arm for free. Nice folks.
Very fortunate luck with the comped replacement arm! And congratulations on being the first commenter to guess correctly! Stay tuned for your feature!
I have a smell of gasoline in my trunk, and I have been replacing the fuel filler neck hoses last year, but still it smell. I think I have to lower my fuel tank and see if there is any cracks on top of my tank. I have heard the tanks could crack if the car lives in very hot areas. My car have lived the moust of it's life in San Diego CA, so it could be the case for my tank. Luckely my car is also rust free, so my fuel tank straps still looks like new, and easy to unbolt.
@@TerjeNormann Sorry to hear that, I'm working hastily on this next video to hopefully shed some light on your issue!
I like how you and your Dad took a negative and turned it into a positive experience! I have a SAAB myself and I know how you can easily become attached to these! They're great cars!
They are absolutely wonderful cars, and I hope to prove they can make it through a lot!
I feel like there's going to be a "yes, yes, of course it is" moment here 😊 My best "and only" guess is that it is part of the trunk floor lock, it probably has a torsion spring if I remember correctly. Can't claim to have studied that part very carefully, even though it is on my two OG900s.
it has a very close similarity to that and the hood latch spring, but it is actually the air ventilation intake lid under the hood gill
@@BumpyRoadAhead Aha, it is related to the AC system, recirculation shutter? Even though Sweden is relatively cold, I wish I had AC in my Saabs 😎
@@janneeriksson9654 Correct, and don’t worry, SAAB has your AC problems covered just as long as your window switches work 😉
Throttle spring?
close but not quite, it is the air conditioning intake lid spring
Hi - This is great content! Keep at it, Colin!
Also - Love the Ronal's!
Thank you so much for the encouragement. Supporters like you is exactly what I love about sharing this project
Fun fact about panel fit on the 900: The 900 CC is one centimeter shorter on one side from the factory. This is a result of tolerances adding up differently on each side.
That spring closeup seems to be of the ventilation air intake box shutter spring, coincidentally located just below the hood gill before it is repurposed to the fender. Another excellent video from which we can learn!
Amazing guess and you nailed it! Unfortunately there is already a winner for the feature, but I sincerely appreciate you sharing your expertise regardless of being first!
That spring reminds me of the hood release latch...
very close! it was the air ventilation lid spring
I recognize that spring, i have fiddled with it years ago but i am not sure where. Coupe recirculation lid?
You’re absolutely right! Congrats for being the first one to comment correctly and stay tuned for your feature in the next video
Hood hinge spring!
wrong, but not a bad guess at all, you’re on the right track.
Sprayway glass cleaner is an autobody secret weapon! So is naptha. Great stuff long live saab!
amen, it works wonders!
My painter who specializes in high dollar hot rods taught me that. Its been a pleasure to apprentice under his 40 years of knowledge and experience. Another great pro tip is using aluminum foil to mask off and wrap parts that doesn’t need paint. The foil forms nicely and doesn’t give way to the pressure of the paint gun.
Interesting design with the cable drive. I'm guessing the malfunction was caused by the cable loosening over time just enough to hop off.
The picture looks like it is the air intake on the hood. Early models actually had those on both sides but there was only an actual air intake on the left side, the right side was just for symmetry
you’re correct about it being a hood air intake, although you’ll see us taking an interesting spin with it in the next video.
I would have titled this episode "Rattle Can Restoration"
The paint looks great! is the photo at the end a vent in the fender for a cold air intake?
yes it is, unfortunately Mr. Noel already guessed it. But i’m pretty excited to put it on my car because I think it’ll not only make it look cooler, but also make it a little bit more unique as far as the average saab goes
Those are gills (like I have on mine - so I guess that is cheating, eh?).
I would say that having gills on your car simply made you prepared! Congratulations on getting it right and stay tuned for your feature in the next video!
My brother inlaw had an 86 and I recall him complaining about the wiring falling apart while trying to work on it. I thought he was making excuses but now I learn this was a thing with these model years.
Absolutely it was a big issue, sometimes a nuisance but other times a catastrophic event in my case. Hopefully my loss raises some awareness to other people’s beloved 900’s
@@BumpyRoadAhead I'm looking for a video how to replace the belts. If you can show that I'd really appreciate it!
@@stephenmorrissey1254 I’m coming up with new content as we speak, eventually we will feature the installation of my engine with all of the components involved in that installation, so stay tuned for more information
Better get Another Paper Route... to help pay for parts.
No kidding there!
Generally alone working on 900s, I've learned that hood removal or install can be a solo job. Being tall enough to see mount forks over an open hood is key. As Bumpy says, the hood sits open with the two mounting bolts out. Stand in front of open hood and grasp it firmly at the sides. Slowly lift and pull hood forward to disengage forks. It's only moderately heavy and can be carried to a safe resting spot that has been prepared. The hood will rest well on front center edge leaning against a wall. A padded resting point can be a heavy towel folded into multiple layers. Rolling the hood to its side on similar padding can also be done. Reverse steps to remount. I have done this alone often.
Beautiful alternative! The way I described it in the video is the way my father taught me, and generally only safer with more people (although not as necessary). We use 2 people also to preserve the paint the best we can as there are some low hanging parts to the hood. Thanks for sharing expert knowledge!
Yikes! But good info about the wiring harnesses. I'd definitely be wary if I had an 84-86 model. Fortunately mine is later.
Yes absolutely, I'm just hoping some take my incident as a warning and a lesson.
Supongo que tengo el mismo problema ya que la 5ª marcha no me entra, parece como chocara con un muro, y lo quiero arreglar, gracias por tu ayuda I guess I have the same problem since 5th gear doesn't fit, it seems like I'm hitting a wall, and I want to fix it, thanks for your help
Had the same issue with mine, we would try to shift into 5th, but the gear would not engage or stick and go into neutral, I hope the video provides a solution!
Once again great video. The SEM (not sure that's correct spelling) spray paint can is dye and not spray paint? If it's a dye do you happen to have part number from the can or dye code for this?
Yes, it is a dye, I'll get back to you tomorrow with the dye code, it's very very very close to the buffalo gray seat color, although not exact, however, the actual paint we will use on the car is a match to an original 900 Edwardian gray.
@@BumpyRoadAhead okay definitely will look forward to hearing back
@@jimprice9251 Hey again! The product we used for this video, and my seats is: SEM Color Coat (flexible coating) 15303 Graphite We bought these in 12oz quantities, but i’m sure you can get them bigger/smaller Hope this clears it up, sorry from my end. Have a good one!
