Nobody Understands the Male Gaze
I mansplain about why I think the term "female gaze" is kinda bad and diminishes how the male gaze and patriarchy as a whole ruins art (and life) for everyone.

man spends 11 minutes realising he doesn't understand the male gaze either and comes to the conclusion that the patriarchy exists
I personally think of it as what women think the male perspective is like
I just want to say your videos are incredibly important to me as an immigrant in another country (not us.) The thing about not knowing your roots and feeling disconnected to them is especially relatable for me. Sometimes it feels like even knowing english language thrusts you into a context where you understand not just a new language but also a way of doing things, the colonialist gaze as you said in another video of yours. Thank you for doing this!
a minute in and you seem very toxic e: okay you just hated on that filmbro for some reason, the rest of the video you just sound confused, but i appreciate the struggle
I feel confused I don’t know for the movie thing i don’t think I have ever heard anyone call a movie anything other then movie and this goes for movies made by everyone to my knowledge I don’t know why am confused about this video it just does I never even heard of the male gaze is this a thing people regularly deal with and am just blind personally I just it as all genders race’s religions and so on have to deal with a bunch of stuff that’s unfair and harms them but eh what do I know I guess am just some random on the internet
excited for your isttvg vid after watching this rant, it was my favorite movie this year, owen is just like me fr
Why does this guy sound like Company Man
The male gaze ain't bad? Huhhhhhhh? Also nah, as someone who is actually not a soft liberal, its not like appreciating form is taking away from the deeper person who resides in it. Damn, you sound like a man, but damn are you generalizing people. Kinda sounds like you're gay and just bullshitting your way through how heterosexual men feel attraction
i would have clicked in this video way earlier if the thumbnail hadn't been so unnapealing
Bruh
I know about the male gaze. I'm watching one right now!
The male gaze is weird
@@zainmudassir2964 "Male Gaze Situation is Crazy"
I see we both learned about anime from Trixie (former channel name Digibro)
I think one of the things discussion of the Male Gazes misses is that the value of it isn't necessarily in ticking off a check box of traits that make it up. Rather it is, as you point out, the value the term has in emphasising that the dominant gaze assumes a masculine viewer. With this in mind I think a singular Female Gaze makes the same mistake, assuming the possibility of a singular, coherent and dominant gaze. Instead, I always think, we should be chasing an opening up to accept gazes (which obviously will involve an active pursuit of minority voices because we already have dozens of actually distinct male gazes pretending to be 'The Male Gaze' in the dominant eye, because it's easier to pretend to be normative when you're closer to it). With that said, I've been toying with the idea that the normative male gaze does imply a normative female gaze of a sort, given the binary logics that get overlaid over sex and gender. Specifically, I've been thinking that possibly the (sexual) Male Gaze implies or constructs an anxious female gaze (exemplified in kidnapping panics, the image of masculinity and sexuality as threat, and typified in the Berger line that a 'woman looks at herself being looked at') these both overshadowing and attempting to deny the possibility of sexual female gazes and anxious male gazes. It's a theory I've not credentialised very well, it mostly being based on analysis of media, conversations with friends, and general knowledge, but I think it has legs at least vis a vis expanding my awareness of my own gaze technologies (watching for how I respond to or feel anxious about where I am looking or how I am looked at for example). Anyway, it's a bit of a ramble but I thought your video cued it up well. Especially as I like your move away from assuming a 'Female Gaze' that must naturally counterpose the male one (while we could probably build something like that. I don't think it's a particularly healthy strategy of resistance with how unitary notions of femininity tend to cut out black, queer, disabled and working class women as well as girls).
while its not actually to the contents of this video, i have to say; thank you. i found your work around 6 months ago by complete chance on a search for youtube videos about the wolf of wall street, and have been thoroughly impressed since. be true to yourself (whatever it is): you are with ease one of the most thoughtful and attentive people on this website and i will continue to observe what you do on and off it. superb
I would say I also don’t understand the male gays as well.
fantastic work

where is that "man is blamed for caring more about third world ideology than about paying the rent" clip from
tyler the creator - sorry (slowed)
I'm so glad that I came across this video because I genuinely understand this disconnect, I'm Indian and because of the pace of increasing social mobility and the fact that we are a "developing" nation, there is a pretty clear divide between the "elite" middle class population and the rest of the majority who are not. The quality of education received, the resources at hand, all vary vastly in between these two social groups (also the threat of a slowly disappearing middle class as the rich become richer) , not to mention the unending diversity of different languages and cultures and subcultures that exist. There is so much divisiveness that at times it seems almost like a fantasy to imagine us mobilizing for any kind of a cause (or any meaningful changes being brought about) politics almost instantly becomes populism, and of course media a tool to either appease the population through fantasizing about stories of rags to riches, historical dramas to relive our "heroic" times or plain childish comedies. I tend to consume mostly "western" philosophy and fiction, and so do increasingly a lot of our population, and the problem of culture and identity can get a bit muddled for people who do not accept it in face value. In short, so much of it seems performative, to take pictures of or post about. The Indians who do move abroad, or live in different countries tend to turn to extreme conservatism or religion. Our nationalism is being used as a tool to further corporate control, of course to build better infrastructure but at the cost of checks and balances not being placed upon them thus work never actually getting done. Things need to be changed and acknowledged, precious human capital is increasingly leaving our country for better opportunities. Perhaps this is a situation most developing countries are facing. Maybe it is time to move away from culture to another means of identification.
Dude your art is so fucking good. I love your channel and even though the films you spotlight in your essays have already "made it" you're still showing them to a wider audience and making these film scenes more widely known even if most people will never get to see a lot of those caribbean films that only get shown at festivals. I'm a white american but I'm also an autistic trans person so I'm interested to hear what you have to say about queerness and neurodivergence, idk you always have something interesting to say.
As an ukrainian, heh, what can I say, I feeling myself as samurai in castle under siege for whole my life, I wish I never leave forever my city, because there is nothing and nobody so indigenous then my own fellow friends, family and just random people. It's my duty to hold this castle at all cost.
Any opinions about Patricia Taxxon? I find her a really great all around Artist and she even has won Awards for her music. Her video's also are of high quality and contain "non pretentious" Philosophy like Cj the X'es video's (both are friends and have collabed music wise, Panty Hose from Wax under Wolcnum (WuW) being higly recomended here!). Exsprimantal while having a emotional core is definitely one of her strengths. Often has a Unique view on things, while being great at expressing it. Her podcast: Bout knife, A Crimanaly underrated podcasts. Contains a lot of "non pretentious" discussions about art that I think you would find interesting to cheak out. Especially her last on Djesse vol 4 is a really fun one! Her "On the Ethics of boinking animal Poeple" started getting me out of my fear of being wierd. That one can be smart and wierd. Not in contradict, but taken simultaneously! Still can't belive how that video got me out of my depressive state. Ending up on a path of proper self improvement and self acceptance. Sometimes, God changes your views via a dog. A being, seemingly in oposision to wat you are. Til you look at your own artifical hands. The paws or claws underneath it all. An Animal amoung humans, That you where from the verry beginning. Let's be a good being towards others, not a Good Human. Tryed it, failed at it. Time to live as a Being in a human world. Because we where not considered, when that world was created. So let's make it one! One From those of all places, all backgrounds, and all stages of live!

You sound extremely Irish for some reason
The Jamaican accent is actually influenced by the Irish one a little bit because I think there were a lot of Irish people who were sent there by Oliver Cromwell for some reason. There’s some of their descendants still there and they’re the “white Jamaicans”.
