A random with random hobbies, I'm building a OO gauge layout on 200mm shelves and occasionally play Cities Skylines. Don't expect anything too snazzy here :)
OO Cabin Shelf - Main station update and a river rippled
I've been doing a few bits here and there, main focus was on completion of the river and at least getting the station building painted before Xmas..
This is a model from www.inthegreenwoodlaser.co.uk/ I forgot the name in the video 😂
I also added brickwork to the main platform with slaters card rather than wills sheets and stuck it with some left over pollyfilla I had laying about. I also finished off the water ripples on the river to make a more fast flowing appearance, I think it worked well considering it's my first ever river scene.
Enjoy

OO Cabin Shelf - main station building takes shape
มุมมอง 180หลายเดือนก่อน
I have finished the resin pour for the river, and found a bargain on eBay I couldn't refuse. I've always liked this station building from inthegreenwoodlaser, when first saw it on @MouldyRaspberry I wondered if I could get it onto my layout as its a great building and really fits the larger station vibe I need on this station. I've been close to buying it but when I saw a pre built on eBay for ...

I've finally got on with it, I wanted to show all the resin pour in full glory and everything was going really well until of course there were issues... I've tried to give some sense of the disaster that occured but I was able to work around it and finally have some resin poured on the river scene. #modelrailway #layoutupdate #modelrailwaylayout #oogauge #hornby #bachmann #train #railway #sceni...

OO Cabin Shelf - Biting the bullet...resin prep
มุมมอง 532 หลายเดือนก่อน
Ok. Having spent lots of time procrastinating over this I've decided that I need to just get it done. ✅ I've seen and read comments to do a bit of a test first to make sure no materials react weird with the resin. So... Of I went and found a plastic tub and bunged all the various bits and bobs I've used on the river scene to date (that I can remember!) and magically I seem to have created a lit...
OO Cabin Shelf - Update and river scene progress
มุมมอง 1122 หลายเดือนก่อน
I've been doing a bit here and there and wanted to give a bit of an update. There's 3 New locos to see, although the castle I think was in a previous. All in these 3 rescues cost less than a brand new railroad loco and I got a chance to do a bit of soldering and fixing away from the layout. On the layout, I've been able to progress the corner and finished the back scene by the tunnel exit and c...

This past few evenings I've been doing loads of bits and bobs, I've made wire frame trees with seafoam, but had issues with the quality from wwscenics so only managed 3. I've glued down some more of the trackwork over by station 1, and also added landform to the tunnel entrance by this station in prep for static grass. I've been messing about with electrics and fitted a tester station lamp fitt...
OO Cabin Shelf - mimic panel mockup and a mazak surprise
มุมมอง 683 หลายเดือนก่อน
I fancied a change and carried on with some electrics after adding the 2 final points. I used a bit of spare 5mm foam board and drew out the 2 stations, and used momentary push buttons to wire up a test. It works well. The next step is to think how I can wire up to the board so I can take it around with me. I think I have a solution to this, but I'll save that for another time. I also wired up ...
OO Cabin Shelf - New locos, points all in, main station
มุมมอง 6763 หลายเดือนก่อน
I decided to get the last two remaining points in and ready to wire up. method of digging out the insulation board, and then super gluing the motor to the point under clear plastic and dropping it in. Works a treat. Once all in and tested, I got out the 5mm foam board and got the base of the main station platforms cut and into position. #modelrailway #oogauge #modelrailwaylayout #hornbyrailways

Have you got the M27 and M3 interchange? That looks brilliant!!
@@Aidan225 thanks Aidan. Yes. I've not been playing it much recently actually, but yeah the M3 - M27 was difficult to get fairly accurate
Looks great and a great backing sound, Merry Christmas 🎉🎅🎄⛄️🍻🥳 Stu from Kingsclere model Railway
Thanks Stu. Hope you had a good Christmas ⛄ all the best for the new year aswell
Very nice work Mr Pea, your channel just popped up in my feed. I've just started watching some of your previous vid's and I'll be watching the progress on your wonderful layout. It's a big thumbs up from me and a new sub. All the best.....Andy
@Andy-SharlstonEastgate ah that's great Andy welcome and a big thanks for taking a look. Have a great Xmas
Awesome! Love it ❤
@@Proper_Chuffed cool isn't it... Think this clip fitted perfectly. Where did you record it do you remember?
Caught up now that station is looking great. Views are dropping on my channel also, time of year I think. Have a good one and see you in 2025
Thanks Tony. All the best. Have a fantastic xmas 🎄
Just catching up. Nice bit of kit bashing would be interesting in how you will set the lights up how they connect and everything as I have no idea how to do that.
Hey Tony, I'm trying to work out the best way to get them hooked up tbh, I'm certainly no expert but I'll try and cover this in the next update mate no worries 👍 have a happy New year
@ I look forward to any advice on the subject. Have a great New Year 2025 here we come.
Nice update, river looking really good. Merry Christmas mate
@Kingscleremodelrailway thanks for watching along. Glad you think you, I definitely think I nailed that with some beginners luck... Apart from the disaster that was the pour 😂
Im not sure whats going on with the image quality of this short at the start. Sorry. Blame TH-cam 🎉
Your river pour was far more successful than mine even with the leak that is for sure. I ended up with a cracked resin. I might have to try the same resin you used to see if I can get it to look better than it does at the moment. Nice work I think it looks really impressive.
@@ChobertonJunction thanks Tony. Honestly I wish I'd had a remote camera as it would be hilarious watching me trying to plug it up 🤣 I've seen few diarama folks using UV resin, I'd definitely try that next time, or at least plan better next time 😉. added ripples now, and despite a bit of dust getting caught in it that's actually coming out really well. The only issue I've had is trying to cut off the lip of resin from where it crept up the dam. Explain more on my next update, probably next week when I have more done 👍
@@ChobertonJunction added the link to the one I got in the description btw
Mate, this is absolutely epic!
Thanks Martin! really appreciate the support. I've actually blocked the view a little now with a large tree, love to know your thoughts on that.
Looking so good mate
Thank you very much. I'm pretty happy with how it's looking, hours of watching others coming to fruition 😆
Hi mate I hope you are well It coming on fast snd looking good. Am glad you fixed your issue with points Thank you for the update Keep safe ARP
@@AdiPullen hi Adi. Much appreciated. The points issue is still very annoying. Out of all the points I have in a box I choose a broken one 😭
Looking good 🙂
@@Kingscleremodelrailway thankyou 👍
Good to see you back with an update. Layouts go if fits and starts as with mine. Not touched mine for months due in part to health (psoriasis in the hands) but returning slowly now. Keep on with yours as it just gets better and better.
@@ChobertonJunction hi Tony. Thanks for the comment. Sorry to hear about your health issue, glad you are getting better and back to modelling. Have you been able to visit any shows?
@@_RandomPea psoriasis is something that I fear I will have to live with from now on. Such is. Not done any shows this year although I will be going to the NEC this month.
@ChobertonJunction sorry to hear that Tony. Enjoy the show, I'm at a local open day in a couple of weeks, hoping to get a load of scenic bits without the daft eBay postage
The trees look great lights looks great too. Am not electrician.
@@AdiPullen thanks Adi. Trees were fun but I got poor quality seafoam from Wwscenics as end of Harvest season so that was a bit frustrating. Getting there. The electrics are quite fun but totally limited in my knowledge
Prewired Sub D connectors have very small wires to the plug in the multicore, that means high resistance, for the high surge current that solenoids use. Cat5 cable is similarly too high resistance for solenoid motors, especially if they are a long way away. Sub D connectors are OK, but dont use the cheapest as they wont handle the current, use minimum of commercial or better, industrial type (gold plated) that can handle over 3 amps, and you will then need to solder to the connectors with decent size wire (equal or greater than 16/02). As multicore cable gets expensive after 7 core, I think you will end up with 4 multicores
@@TimberSurf wow ! Fantastic insight Timbersurf thanks. So you don't think I'll be able to get a single cable from the points? 😞
@@TimberSurf reread this and understand now I've activated brain lol 🤣 the cable is 30v rated, no idea on amperes but should be fine. Have you seen anything similar to what I'm trying to do before? I'm sure I'm not the only one trying to make a single walkabout panel. Appreciate your post and advice. Thanks 👍

@@_RandomPea Not really, the male is for pcb mounting only and the female will need the pins crimping with a specialist tool. Cheapest, most robust, easy to wire solder able, are GX16 Aviation Connector, available inline and panel mount and only £1ish per side.
@@_RandomPea Not really, the pins need crimping with a special tool and the male is for PCB mounting!. Hi mate I hope you are well Yes n25 s15 yes drain cocks yes that what was wrong with mine on 3rd radius Glad you got it fixed Very nice loco too. Track cleaning i use make up pad and lighter fluid and a hoover Look nice layout Thank you for sharing your models and layout with us Keep safe ARP
@@AdiPullen hi Adi! I used to use ipa to clean but found out that white spirit is a better conductor, as is lighter fluid... There was a table somewhere on it. It seems to keep the wheels on locos a lot cleaner aswell so double win 😆 In fairness to horny they do state I the instructions that locos with drain cocks would be restricted, but just wonder why they didn't think to design it differently... Baffling... As it did look good. It still derails on the same point though, just not elsewhere... I think it's the spring on the front pony 🐴
That panel looks great, even for a mock up! Shame about the mazak rot - I've personally never had it happen, but I've heard it's a pain in the backside 😂😂 good luck fixing it 👍 great video mate :)

@@Tauraco00 the one that keeps derailing? It's very nice yeh, it's so annoying that it seems to like to jump off the rails 😔 I think I'll take it apart and take a look if I can spot anything else. It was a shame to remove the drainage pipes but I could see it hitting the front pony
