@TommyBiswell if I'm comparing islands in SEA, Th, Ph, Bali. Then I really only rate a small part of Phuket, Laguna. To make somewhere liveable (just talking about day to day and not exhaustive), you need; decent infrastructure, a range of price points for dining or entertainment, a good source of "talented" labour, green space/pedestrianized areas for outdoor activities and in the case of islands specifically access to beach without needing to bypass hotel developments, I'll forgoe medical this can and should be accessed in BKK, for anything serious. Samui's main ring road is passable, but access to from areas like Bhoput, Fisherman's village if coming via Chaweng is sketchy for all road users. Chaweng is undeniably in the doldrums, most hotels live on a reputation rather than having invested to upgrade - there are exceptions. Staff shortages and lack of training (service staff) is evident in a high percentage of outlets, I found very few where I would be a repeat customer. If you prefer your cardio outside, I'd rather not run/cycle along pot holed sois side on to (mafia taxi drivers that are looking for a fare rather than at the road), with the added bonus of the soi dogs deciding to have a go. Development, like most places that are mafia/family run, has meant on some beaches, access points are bottle necked. I found myself shocked when a Thai, would actually Wai (There are fewer Thai in service rolls) Those that are, are jaded with the massive influx of foreigners (some of which are permanently settled). In especially crappy areas don't be surprised to see people walking into a supermarket with their tops off - I ain't prude, but really the class divide is clear. Samui is a bottom fishing island now, it could be so much more, and areas like Mainam are a good throwback, but sadly for Samui that's just the way things go in the land of the smiles.

One extension allowed on each 30 day exemption. Should be aware that you're only allowed to do 2 LAND border bounces per calendar year - after that you'll need to fly in/out and take your chances at immigration

@@dw3514 Yeh I know about the 2 land and air crossing but I was just curious about extending on each 30 day entry , so instead of leaving Thailand every 30 days , you leave every 60 days . I would want to explore other bordering countries anyway.
