Horse Pole & Jump Exercise To Improve Rhythm Before & After Show Jump. Equestrian Training
#poleexercise #showjumptraining #equestriantraining
I bring you my current favourite pole jump exercise!
Great for working on your approach to a fence. If you have a horse that maybe struggles to maintain a canter round a corner or tries to bend the wrong direction this exercise with help. Great for making sure as a rider you are looking up and ahead.
Good all round gymnastic exercise for your horse. Ideal for whatever discipline you are into whether that is dressage, show jumping or eventing.

#storybehindphoto #equestrianjourney #equestrianvlog Can I start a new equestrian trend? Probably not 😂! I would love my fellow equestrian You Tubers to take 3 or 4 photos that mean a lot to them and chat about the story behind them. Why that photo is so important. Might be a first horse, first international show, first big win or over coming a challenge. Either way it would be lovely to hear y...

I'm tempted by the Insta360 too.
I wanna comment but i dont know what to,so i liked the video
Also ... CONGRATULATIONS ON 2K!!!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thanks! Much easier to get then the first 1k 😂😂
Oh goodness I want a pivo so much They look amazing. The only catch for me is that I use a go-pro instead of a phone to film, and from what I understand I would have to have a phone connected as well as my camera or it wont work 🤷 confusing. Anyway ... Yet another great pole exercise ❤
Oh having to connect ph and camera would be annoying. I need to find some videos on the Insta 360 one to see what it’s like. Otherwise I need to persuade mum to be cameraman more often!
@@EJMEQUESTRIAN huh ... I wonder if a bog standard 360 degree camera would work? 🤔. Rather than having a rotating stand
I bought one, the Pivo pod. I have not used it much YET (mostly due to climate), definitely it has a certain quality of footage that you can see in all videos online that I might call "lurchy". This is to say that it doesn't pan as smoothly left-to-right as a human would do. But, compared to "no footage at all", pretty okay!
Thank you for this!
Corp's such a legend!! 💖
He really is. He only looked like he’s was enjoying himself once we put the jump up at the end. 😂
@@EJMEQUESTRIAN that flying leap earlier on was impressive! He was all "put the jump up!!!" 😂
Aw he loved that ❤
So happy with himself 😂
The tree down would stop vehicles. Always a bonus.
Original horse power the best 😃
I'm guessing that's not actually a river?
😂 no. Everywhere is going to look a river if we get the rain tomorrow isn’t it.
@@EJMEQUESTRIAN oh yeah I forgot about the storm 😭
Ooh great video, and what lovely memories ❤ Your absolutely right, I think we often don't realise how amazing something is until we look back years later Sorry to hear about your grabdmother passing x
Thank you. I look forward to yours! 😁
So sorry for the loss of your grandmother. Sienna is such a character. I have a photo that means something to me. It's a photo of me standing with my Highland Pony, Kippen. It's a notable photo because Kippen has Cushing's and was thirty one years old in the photo and he looks great. (He's thirty two years old now.) I'm at a normal body weight after having been morbidly obese. So it does look like a normal my horse looks nice photo but it's also a triumph over adversity. Such great photos. So nice to meet Basil and Molly, so nice to see a younger Coop. Coop is such an amazing horse.
Thank you. I love Highlands, had one on my books a few years back at he was great. Love your story behind the photo.
Emily I’m sorry to hear about your grandmother, sending hugs. Xxxxxx
Thank you so much
Loved this, seeing the photos and hearing the stories ❤ Wish I could find all my old horsey photos - from the days of 35mm film that you'd to get developed- sadly I think they're either lost forever or fallen prey to damp and mould, I'd be happy to make a video, but I'd have to subtitle it, my voice sometimes doesn't want to work! 🫣
Oh no about your photos 😢.
@@EJMEQUESTRIAN I know I had all my negatives in a box, but I've no idea where it is. Such is life when you move house semi-often and had a mother who was overly fond of binning everything
Beautiful! What is the distance between your poles? I have trouble with that at the lope.
Thanks. For that horse I probably placed 3 decent steps of mine in between the poles.
I love these videos so much!! :) this one really helped because I have an original character who is a hunt horse and I wanted to get him as accurate as possible! appreciate it
Thank you ☺️
The to do list never ends. You can think it's been done and then realise that's not true.
Indeed! 🙂
Oh, we all have those lists... I feel mine is getting longer and longer. And I don't even own my own horse. The mystery of Sienna.. she is a hard nut to crack..
The never ending list. Sienna is a mystery indeed. 🙂
@@EJMEQUESTRIAN ❤️❤️
Ah the forever growing 'to do' list 😂
Got to stop feeding the damn thing 🤣
Free concert 😂
🤣
Oooh that's a good canter track ❤
So nice.
So very odd that Sienna is sound and able to jump when she's loose, but doesn't want to know when you're riding her...I wonder is it a pain memory thing? Such a shame cos she's an amazing jumper xx
I totally agree on the pain memory, however I still think something physical is also going on. And interestingly she was a smidge sore in the back after she loose jumped which she isn’t normal for her.
@@EJMEQUESTRIAN as Toyah said "it's a mystery" 🎵 Something that floated across my brain [when watching a vlog where a horse was being vetted], is there any chance she might have been put in foal when she was very young? Used to be the done thing back in the day, get the fillies pregnant to get a foal off them so they'd "earn their keep" before they could be ridden (gawd knows what they did with the colts and geldings!). Can damage hips and pelvis...
Made my daughter’s horse more fussy and chewing on the bit.
Oh no that was disappointing. Still probably my mares favourite bit. But they are all different, what suits one doesn’t suit another. Hope you found a bit that worked.
Sienna Sienna hahaha! Those boots looks soo nice =)
Boots are great, and will hopefully keep my toes toasty!
Love the positivity you’re right grin and bear it
☺️
Wow she can throw some shapes 🙈little monkey🦄
She does love to party. She’s so daft, it was all because I moved the fence and gave them a bigger space. 😂
The view of the lake was gorgeous 🥰
It’s so beautiful down there.
😂 at Sienna hooning around in the field, and Corp standing there all mortified "must you be so unladylike??"
😂😂😂
Ooh what a view ❤
It’s a great view
Corp is just so dazed by her energy 😂😂😂😂
😂😂 I think most of the time he’s trying to keep out of her way. Daft horse
Well I have nothing useful to sugges here, but I really can relate on the stop start with the horses this year. On the plus side I'm sure we are both learning a lot through all this 😂 Just a thought, and I'm not trying to suggest ill of people, but I wonder if something happened to her when she went away to be backed? I know she's done herself a few mischiefs at home but I can't understand why she is why she is.
Oh, I just got to the part of the video where you also wondered that 🤔
I do wonder I really do. Something doesn’t add up.
@@EJMEQUESTRIAN and they'd never tell you if something did happen, that's the worst bit 😔
I don't have anything helpful to suggest, you have way more experience than me. At times my horse shows tension in his mouth, curling back with his neck and his lips and showing his teeth. He can then sometimes go absolutely beautifully, take the contact, beautifully forward and responsive, and seem to enjoy the work, but I am not sure what makes the switch from fussy boy to happy working pony. There is some element of my confidence in there.
I have a clients horse that sometimes lip curls and shows their teeth. I agree confidence definitely plays a part. If only we could know what they were thinking and how they were feeling. 🙂
Do English bits have a cricket? My horse can ride English and western and he loves a western bit with a cricket and leverage. He seems to prefer it over a sniffle even with a dog bone.
I had to look up what a cricket was in a bit 😄, yes we do have bits with a cricket, like a barrel? It’s a good shout, so will give it a try. Thanks
My horse also does the tongue thing when stressed. He's not ridden.
Siennas the same she also does it when waiting for her feed or wants my attention.
You are doing a great job as always! ❤
Thank you ☺️
Have you looked at all into Phillipe Karl and his methods? The idea of lifting the bit in the mouth and having the horse chew and push forward and reach. I have ridden several horses similar to her- my current Greye horse (his name and his color) curls up and stiffens in the back. Very anxious horse. The PK method works great for him. I learned about it years ago when I took on a VERY anxious, tense horse that had been abused? He would curl and rush and then explode. With that method I found keeping his shoulders (thoracic sling really) up as he reached was a game changer. He went on to do quite high level training despite being older and having lots of baggage. Just a thought. I like having many different ways of doing things. 😊
No never heard of him but will definitely have a Google and read about his methods. I agree great to look at many different ways, one thing this mare is teaching me is to look at different approaches. Thank you ☺️
Hi I am having similar issues with my mare and her mouth - I haven't fixed it but she is now in a Micklem bridle and a level 3 myler eggbut for more tongue room and she has improved quite a bit - its hard keep trying everything but keep perservering you will get there. With the ridden work would it be an option to stay in walk to help build her confidence but maybe do walk polework and obstacles to keep her mind busy?
That’s interesting because I was looking at a Myler style bit and wondering if the shape might be something that would suit her. I’m not keen to do any ridden pole work with her currently as the few times she’s decked me heavily there was always a pole involved. Thanks for the bit suggestion 😃
Don’t happen to have a pic of the bit?
@@EJMEQUESTRIAN above is level 2 - this worked well too and more common than level 3 so you may get one easier
mmm it removed my links? Search MB04 Myler level 2 eggbutt (no hooks) and MB33 level 3 eggbutt
😮 you had frost already?? We're still swimming!
I know! We will be swimming if it keeps raining. ☔️
I do get your frustation <3 But you have worked her well and you do put in a lot of energy in her and love it <3
Thank you ☺️. Hopefully she will get there, at least she’s young.
I feel your frustration. Sorry. She is such a beautiful mare and I am so looking forward to seeing her advance in dressage. I don't know how much you do but could you maybe not lunge her? Maybe lead her from your other horse for a bit and then ride her?
Oh she hacks out on the lead off of my other horse 3/4 times a week. So is only lunged twice a week and it’s a good opportunity to use the Equi Ami in its entirety. But hopefully if she does feel happy working under saddle again then the lunging can be dropped slowly.
@@EJMEQUESTRIAN Yes, I just thought maybe on the days you plan to ride her to lead her off your other horse as the warm up and see if avoiding the circles helps at all. Just a thought. Good luck!
@@lindaederofficialyoutube oh I see, yes certainly another way like you say to reduce too many circles.
I also have a horse with a sacroiliac issue. Fingers crossed, we both work out how to keep our horses happy.
🤞🤞🤞 fingers crossed indeed. It’s a tricky joint when it wants to play up.
So glad you've found a way to keep Sienna happy working!
Fingers crossed will can keep her happy when ridden 🤞🤞
OH how I love videoes like these. I just love watching people tidy and get a sneak peak in to other people tack rooms.
☺️
How did you arrive at diagnosis?
Vet X-rayed back after some explosive behaviour when ridden. However we injected around the processes with steroid to see if she would improve, this made no difference. So we now believe her kissing spine isn’t the primary problem.
@@EJMEQUESTRIAN Thank you. That’s very helpful!
Felt stressed for you when you were trying to decide what to keep. It's so tempting to keep all of it. Mind you, I actually gave away three saddles. Tied to sell them, failed and gave them to a horse charity.
All the stuff I put in the sale has had zero interest, and I kept prices very low as wanted things to just go. So disappointing when that happens. Charity is a good shout though.
