Tipmont REMC for the win!!! Here's a quick rundown of my Tipmont fiber internet installation experience a few miles outside of the Battleground area: 11/23/2024 New service requested 11/26/2024 On-site survey scheduled 12/04/2024 On-site survey conducted and completed 12/12/2024 Fiber run to house exterior (over existing power poles, no appointment, they just showed up) 12/31/2024 Fiber run into house, modem and router installed and configured (by appointment) Their default quote is that it could take 10-12 weeks, but since our fiber runs above ground on power poles it took slightly over 5 weeks from start to finish! As you might expect, the fiber connects to a small modem which converts the fiber to ethernet, which is then connected to the Calix router/wi-fi box: Calix GigaSpire® BLAST® u6.1 (GS4220E) www.sharontc.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/GS4220E.pdf Tipmont/Calix has an iPhone app (CommandIQ) which provides an OOKLA speedtest which shows me 248/246 with a ping latency of 2ms. It's not clear to me what server it's connecting to, probably something hosted by Tipmont. The bufferbloat test (www.waveform.com/tools/bufferbloat) gives the connection a "Grade A" (26ms, +16ms, +25ms, 256Mbps, 242Mbps) (of course, YMMV depending on the the state of the internet outside of Tipmont's network). Best of all, there was not a single charge for the installation nor equipment, and no recurring charges for equipment. I opted for the 250/250 plan which is currently $65/month. Contrast that to my previous internet service, $50/month for xDSL over POTS (from Centurytel/Brightspeed), maxing out at 7Mbps down and 700kbps up on a good day. Suffice it to say I'm now a very happy camper!!!

Wilmington, NC also had this law. How we got around it was just by not abiding by the law. Not a single fraternity or sorority house was ever ticketed or any of the 1000s of unaffiliated houses were ticketed. Just don’t follow the law. Easyyyyyy work around

No they are not. People aren’t going to buy just because prices go down. People still don’t feel good about the economy, you need confidence not price sensitivity. If people see prices go down they will only wait for the bottom when its obvious there is a looming recession

To be fair, where i live that would be an extemely good deal on rent. Breaks down to about 220 a month. Even with roommates you can't find rent that cheap here. That's cheaper than Gov funded halfway homes.

Buy a small floor AC and put the plumbing in the window 😂

Shame on Universities for doing this, they owe upperclassmen affordable housing to continue their degrees. Not all are trustfund babies with rich daddies.

For me, it's generally cheaper than average, snd you can find enough employment opportunities that pay the cost of living within Lafayette with a short commute distance

I grew up in and around Lafayette in the 70s & 80s. Went to both Miller and Hershey Elementary Schools, Sunnyside Jr High School, and Jefferson HS…moved out of state for sr yr of HS though, but was right back in Lafayette after graduation. I joined to Army to escape and never looked back.
