Let’s face it orthodontists are scam artists they pay dentists money for every patient that they refer to them and they drive around in $160,000 BMW’S. if any parents out there want my advice let your kids choose whether they want braces or not. If they aren’t willing for the lifetime of commitment then let them decide if they want to get them later in life or not and they have crooked teeth for life. It’s their body their decision

All those retainers have pros and cons. Plastic retainers will wear out and you'll need to replace them. The Hawley retainer will last so much longer and who cares if you have to wear them daily for a couple of months. The permanent retainers will block how you floss the same way the braces did. I want everything OUT of my mouth when I floss and brush.

I had braces in 2002. I’m still wearing my retainers at night. I’ve had new ones made at my dentists. Not every night, but minimum a week a of night a month.

Oh great, so my orthodontist told me to only wear the retainers full time for the first week after I had my braces removed. Then 10 hours a day. Did I not wear mine enough??? (I have a Hawley retainer, a fixed retainer on my upper front teeth and Invisalign plastic retainers.)

I didn't have a gap before my braces, and they took my braces off early, I told them more than once to visit. But it seperated after I got them off and I had to wait two weeks until I got my retainers and I even got them whitened on the same day, I received them. I don't like having a gap and I'm trying to find every way possible to fix it.

My parents got conned into buying braces despite 17 yr old me having a weak lower jaw and tongue thrusting. Three and a half yrs of pain and four heathy teeth extractions later, my buck teeth remained unchanged. What I needed was jaw correction surgery first. Now I’m sixty and the surgery remains financially unobtainable.

I'm from the UK and I was supposed to get braces when I was a lot younger but it never happened. As a result, my overbite is more of a deep one. I have a normal lower jaw, but a small chin. I look deformed. 😔 There's nothing I can do because it's so expensive.

That's fucked up, I just paid 5260 for braces and they didn't mention anything about retainers afterwards lol at least I'll have braces on for 18 months only . But retainers for life wtf ?? I didn't have any crooked teeth , happened from a fight. so will it shift back if I dont wear retainers often ? It was only 1 tooth , my front one .

I had braces from the age of 12 - 16 years old. I was wearing my clear retainer diligently until I hit my 20s. Then I stopped wearing it. I'm now 34 and noticed my teeth started shifting again. Luckily I still kept my clear retainer and it's in good shape. I brushed them and put them in, and oh boy are they tight. Lol. But at least they still fit over my teeth.
