Saab 9-5 Upper Timing Chain Guide part 2
มุมมอง 5K3 ปีที่แล้ว
There is a rubber grommet and a plastic nipple that fit into a hole in the valve cover for the PCV system. I reused the ones that were there even though i bought replacements. If my valve cover develops a leak and i have to use new gaskets i will then replace the PCV parts(they only cost $2). I actually broke the nipple 1st time i took it out and super glued together. It's still in one piece. T...

This is an overbudget bad video. Does your Saab have a bilge pump?
Saab 9-5 Blower Install Part 1

In reverse. Tools needed to start pick or mini screwdriver to take off wiper caps 17mm wrench to remove wiper nuts stubby phillips head for cowl screws 10mm socket for wiper mechanism bolts and frame under cowl 6mm socket for 4 screws blower cover pick or flat head screwdriver to pry harness plug out of blower cover
To clarify i tried driving the car towards home BEFORE i called for a tow.
how did you take the liner off? just the torq screws in the liner? Also did you end up finding the nipple in the same area on the passenger side. Thanks for the video, just realized im having a bit of a sunroof leaking problem as well so been looking for as much info as possible!
My car is missing that big plastic cover.
After 4,5 year it broke glad that i have tyraps. Lifetime warranty. The sent me 2?? Dont no what thats says about quality?
Mine stopped working today. Keeps popping off. Had to get folks to hold it down so i could put it in gear. Put a zip tie over. Lasted til i got home. Need to buy a new one. Still cheap than a full cable
No oil leaks. No longer adding oil. Drive this car 50% of the time. love it
Still working, no leaks
Still working, not 1 problem. I forgot to mention make sure you use 2 wheel chocks for both sides of tire. I do recall chasing my car down the driveway by putting it in neutral by accident.
Still works, no issues
It still leaked. Not as bad as before. Don't really know what i'm going to do. I ordered 2 more crank seals an elring and a victor reinz. That will make 4 different brands. I really don't think it's the o-ring. It doesn't appear to be leaking from that area
I've owned my Saab 9-5 Wagon 2.3T for about 15 years and have done the majority of my own engine work. I've never changed this part, but now @ 191K miles I'm trying to diagnose engine noises I'm not familiar with. Was the purpose of this part, (when new and pliable), to muffle timing chain noise when the timing chain inevitably stretches? I would imagine the purpose was to also prevent the timing chain from touching the cylinder head cover. Did you notice any difference after installation of this part? Thanks
Yes, it quieted engine noise though i don't remember how bad it was being 3 yrs ago
@@thingserik7269 Thanks, I'll probably do this repair, although I dread taking off the valve cover again, it's so easy to pinch the rubber gasket.
WTF!? Don't waste time watching this
It's a SAAB. How much money do you want to waste on it? Both my power mirrors worked when i bought the car. Neither work anymore. If you're the only driver just put a stick in there and be done with it. I've had to change the stick 3 times.
@@thingserik7269 you 4ssh0l3. If u dummie don't blame Saab for it
I’ve got new ones to put on mine. When you put the new ones on, did you have to move the clips out of the way or do they get pushed out and then spring back?
Just did the head on mine for a head gasket. Man this be like the third time I’ve taken mine off. Mine sounds the same as yours did. No big deal I’ll just drive my other Saab till it gets warmer out and I can fix it
I really miss this car
Just did mine as part of a big renovation, your guide was very helpful. Thanks!
You're welcome!
Thanks for uploading this, I just ordered the bushing.
You're welcome!

Glad you got it sort Erik!
Thank you!
I mispoke at 01:06 . You must pull the cylinder with the key in it in OFF position
Did you make almost a ticking noise after you installed it ?
The old one made a rattling noise. That noise is gone but ticking is different. It ticks a bit until warmed up. Has 230000 on ths engine
@@thingserik7269so the problem was chain guide?
I drive this thing 5 days a week. It still makes this noise any time the key is on. It has not broken yet
Sounds like a stripped coupler! Enjoy the fix👍😎🇺🇸
If it's stripped why does the door open and close normally? Where would i need to get access? Outside? Under the dash, or dare i say through the dash? Company truck they wouldn't pay to fix this. If it burns out i can just prop the door open as i prefer fresh air
@@thingserik7269 I just know I had a similar issue on my Ram pickup and when my shop replaced a leaky heater core they had to replace a worn nylon coupler that wouldn't always actuate the air door. Not familiar with Kenworth.
nice ty for the help
Thank you for the info!
I really appreciate this video, I may have the same issue. However, if not they only cost £15 and £8 for a gasket so worth a look.
Shit video
Alot of ppl forget this
I sold the car not long after this video. I really miss it. It just was not practical to keep 2 cars registered and insured at the time. Could afford it now but alas
Fixing to do mine this week, replaced for the same reason. Best and only video Ive found of any sort of solution. I appreciate it!
Glad it helped. You can still buy the full cable if you need.
Is there any easy way to check the numbers on the white sticker? I need a new ABS and have zero car knowledge so I'm going to a saab mechanic but they want the numbers first since it's a bit of a drive from my house. I tried sticking my phone in to take a picture but no go. Can I see from underneath the car?
No, you have to remove it and turn it over. There is/was a place that repairs them for about $100
What year and model 9-3? I have an 07 Aero. The WIS tells me that I have to lower the subframe.
Says 9-5 in the title. Sometimes you have to improvise. Like i just did my alternator from the top. WIS says take off exhaust remove from bottom
Great video was very helpful
I'm now replacing the guide on my 93 turbo. While the cover was off I cleaned it thoroughly and scuffed it over with some 240 wet/dry paper and repainted it satin black. Looks much better than before with the original flaking paint..
Yes, perhaps next summer i will do that. It would look better
Based on all that Blackened BBQ'd oil everywhere You need to Change your oil Semi regularly AND find out /fix Why your engine is running too Hot. Beyond that your timing chain has stretched , judging by the wear on the rubber bumper piece. Best save up for a fresh chain Or an engine rebuild.. your choice.
Hi, thanks for your observation. 17 yrs, 208k miles, black but no sludge. Change my oil every 6 months, with 0w-40 synthetic. Temp gauge rides same spot just over halfway. Next stop for this car is the junk yard
It's not always the chain. Many chains get condemned when it's a simple matter of just changing the cam cover guide. A chain and guide kit + labour circa £350. Cam.cover guide around £10 and if its still in good condition you can even re use the old gaskets.
@@thingserik7269 Note that 0 w oil in that engine is TOO thin.. Seriously Shortening it's remaining life. Temp gauge display on that Car is 'processed' by the ecu.. Don't be trusting it's accuracy... Pull out the cam chain tenshioner and measure its' ratchet extension... if at 15 mm it's New chain time.. Period.
@@barenekid9695 I've actually been running 0-30 advanced economy for past 6 months as it's recommended on the mobil web site. When a SAAB specialist won't try to remove your trailing arm bracket bolts or change your fuel filter and says maybe you should think about parting it out. You tend not to care and just drive it into the ground.
4:55 You can take this off, three Torx 30 screws, one is a bit hidden under the mount. Thanks for the video!
I know i tried taking it off but it didn't budge. I assumed it was epoxied on and didn't want to break the windshield trying to force it
On my car I get a tiny bit of air coming through on max. Would that be the resistor that failed?
Sorry, i did not get a notification on your comment. The rule on blowers is if the speed does not adjust it is likely the resistor. If the fan cuts in and out it is likely the brushes on the blower are worn out. Mine was the latter. This is why i replaced it. If the speed adjusts but there is low air flow you need to first recalibrate the ACC buy pushing auto and off buttons simultaneously. This adjusts the blend doors to correct positions. If this doesn't work you will probably see fault codes on the ACC display
Where's the first video?
Most people bailed in the first minute. I opened it to the public again
Caution: use side cutters to remove the plastic. If you use any type of knife you could slice your hand up badly. 7/8/22- still on, no leaks, been through a few touch car washes 1/21/24- rain, snow, wind, still on doesn't leak
Update: still works no issues. Use my cruise every time i'm on the highway. If it wasn't for this video i'd have forgot it was ever broken
So, the bottem line is, doing this on a lift and working from underneath would be the ideal method. I think i put the car back on ramps to tighten the back screw with a wrench. I used the old screws. Because i work mostly on dirt or uneven asphalt i will not work solely off jackstands i use them in conjunction with a floor jack for safety.
You shouldn't have removed all the plastic part on original antenna...
I`ve got this job to do soon. My valve cover gasket and vacuum pump/cam shaft blank is leaking badly.
I've owned this car for about 3 years. Don't know the last time the gasket was replaced. But i have removed the valve cover twice and retightened with same gasket. No leaks
It's a good idea to clean those two breather pipes with some compressed air while you're in there
I had taken the nipple and grommet out and saw bare metal inside chamber. I did not know there was a tab on the nipple and broke it off. Actually superglued it and reused both parts even though i bought new ones. It was already form-fitted. Thanks for the reminder!
I’ve never seen the inside of a 9-5. Great content!
Tools needed: 2 flat screw drivers(1 narrow, 1 medium to disconnect ignition cassette and to pry out valve chain guide) 10mm socket + extension(banjo bolt and turbo valve bracket) T-30 ignition cassette T-40 valve cover Shop towels
Hi thingsErik, it might be condensed water of the airconditioning tubes (sec.0:31) that drops down and soaks into the carpet. Especially when the car is used in warm and humid areas with airconditioning cooling all the time.
Thank you, the odor appeared suddenly. I think it was due to a rain event. This car has ACC, the ac is on most of the time from Spring to Fall(defrost/defogging). My drain tube was not leaking nor was it clogged. There is a cheap carpeted cover that covers those tubes. The floor carpeting goes behind the cover. It would have leaked on the outside of the carpet. Thanks again for your input.
After a few rain storms and no water present I finally reinstalled the front carpet. No odor
It's important that you first put paper towels or other material under the underlayment and press the water out before airing out. I used a whole roll.
If you have never removed the wipers you will probably need a butane torch. I have removed them numerous times and put on anti-seize so they are workable by hand now. Got my grommet in the mail today and put it on.
