    Great job and information. Just curious what Bimini did you order from Amazon? If I order one from Catalina direct they are over 700 bucks !

      6'x67"x72 Bimini top $125 surprised to find it's a decent top. I cut 7 " off the height to fit under the boom

    I enjoyed watching your videos I’m new to sailing I bought me a 1985 Hunter 22 foot about six months ago and I haven’t haven’t had it in the water yet. Still been working on it but I do little stuff to it each week got it to where I can raise that mass up by myself. I don’t know how the Catalina is put mass on my hunter I mean it’s like 28 foot long I mean it’s aluminum pipe but it’s still heavy awkward to pick that thing up I watch so many different videos on reason the mass and I found one idea that I really like, I put the winch actually on the mass and built a pole on the front of the trailer up in the air with the hook but I’m getting it The boat came with a 10 horse Yamaha long shaft, but it needed too much work. I ended up just getting a little. I found a Suzuki for horse but it’s a short shaft but I’m gonna try to get me a different bracket for that to see if I can get it one that lowers down a lot. Maybe I can get it in the water anyways I enjoyed watching your video.

      Thanks for watching. Definitely setting the mast is the part that sucks with any trailer sailer. The biggest trailer sailer I ever had was a San Juan 26 it was mighty big and heavy. I had a pole on the trailer some how, I can't remember how I did it but I did. Just keep trying stuff you'll figure it out. The Catalina mast is almost that long. I use that pole I bought then the mainsheet from forward stay to the bow plate. It works. Good luck!

    Nice job man! I'm a young guy in college and i just took over this huge project boat. It's a spirit 6.5, which is basically off brand cat 22. Doing a total rebuild over the next few years, basically blank slate right now, saving this video to watch later for ideas! 😊

    Look at building a birds mouth mast! Then sleeve it with a fiberglass sock wet out in epoxy! You won't be sorry. Light weight and super strong. 😊 keep it painted or varnished! UV damages the epoxy! On the west coast we call Shallow water cruising "gunk holing"😂 that's why I bought my Catalina 22 swing keel. Cool looking skow! But I dig the pilot house! We get colder, wetter weather up here I guess?

    Hey thank you, this is some great inspiration! We just bought a Cat 22, first boat I’ve owned myself. Question: how do you attach snaps to the interior surface? Or exterior? Thanks

    • @Land_an_sea
      @Land_an_sea 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There are snaps available with a screw in the male side. Look for stainless steel snaps with screws on Amazon. I always put just a tiny bit of beutal tape around the screw before screwing them in. A tiny pilot hole helps alot to get the screw started in the hull. Hope that helps good luck with the new boat. Where are y'all located?

    I really enjoyed all your Catalina 22 upgrades especially since I’m also upgrading a vintage Catalina 22. I’m in the process of replacing the spongy bow deck and installing a front hatch. My Catalina is in Wilmington and if you are not too far away, I would enjoy meeting up sometime for coffee to talk about upgrades. I also hope this message isn’t getting posted twice.😊

    Cool boat! I've seen that double rotating centerboard design on a Grumman sailing canoe. 8750lbs on a 25' boat, woowee that's heavy! How much of that is ballast? I didn't see that on the print? Looking forward to seeing your build. When you say sitting headroom, how many inches you talking? Good luck with everything:)

    • @Land_an_sea
      @Land_an_sea ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the headroom scaled at about 4 ft 6 ". The ballast is 2500 lbs but I don't think I'll add that much to begin with. The boat is wide for the length at 11 ft. It will surprise me if the boat finishes out that heavy, the designer probably is airing on the side of caution. I've looked at other designs that wasn't that wide or heavy for the length. I had a 26 ft shoal keeled fiberglass boat that only weighs 6500 lbs. Those centerboards you mentioned are called leeboards. You have to raise one and drop the other when you tack. It's a very traditional way. Thanks for your interest! I'll post more videos as I get in the building project more. Right now I have more irons in the fire!

    I believe the weather helm is built into the Catalina 22 for safety reasons. Once you heel 20 degrees you can not control the steerage, which means you need to de-power or reduce the sails size. By angling the rudder bottom forward under the hull you reduced the pivoting radius enough to increase steering and maybe putting the boat into harms way. A friend replaced his rudder on a Cat 25, with the new and improved one, and ended up in a broach beyond anything he experienced before.

    • @Land_an_sea
      @Land_an_sea ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks I'll watch out for that. I reef early and I try to be careful. But since I've moved that rudder back at the top the boat has been way easier to balance. Also I did not do that blindly I did a lot of research before hand. Many cat 22 owners have did it with similar results, and Catalina Direct sells a rudder that does about the same thing. But thanks for the warning! It says a lot about your character to care for others safety!

    Love the boat!! I got a 76' I'm working on now. It has been in storage for 20 years and it was given to me. Didn't have all the parts. Putting on new spreader brackets now. The majority of the mast was filled with spray foam and I'm trying to get it out so I can run lighting and vhf through it. It's been a PIA. I love your upgrades and will be doing some of those for myself. Thanks for putting in the time to show us.

    Galvanized cleet? I have bronze or stainless cleets in storage for free.

    • @Land_an_sea
      @Land_an_sea ปีที่แล้ว

      That would of been my first choice if I had bronze or stainless laying around. I just used what I had. Those big ole double dipped galvanized cleats like for a dock work good. I use one on the foredeck kind of like a Samson post. I did have two matching cleats that were nickel covered bronze that I used to replace the plastic OEM ones on the stern. I've got two more plastic ones on the bow to do yet.
