The First GP38-2
Miss the Southern Railway so bad.
The second I saw the title I knew Jacob would be the Narrator
Amazing video! When will episode 2 start? And what editing software do you use?
Ah the old 4501. Such a beautiful and handsome looking locomotive, and a powerful reminder of how things used to be. I couldn’t think of any better engine to represent such a beautiful class of locomotives than the class leader herself. May her status as one of the largest and most famous preserved Southern Railway steamers go down in history as the engine that changed America’s view on steam locomotives.
I was there on the 30th
I rode behind 630 the day that episode 1 dropped.
I got to ride in that car a few times. I’m still amazed by how well engineered it is. I’m considering making a model of that car in HO scale to go with my 4501 and 630.
Very glad TVRM has saved this car and operates it so passengers can experience what it was like to ride in a Heavyweight Pullman car! However - it definitely isn't how to make up a Pullman bed.
Crushed under building in Florida so at a different building or at Gold Coast Railroad Museum?
Gold Coast RR Museum. It was alongside the FERDINAND MAGELLAN at the time which faired quite well, a lightweight (destroyed), and a few other pieces, which were subsequently cut up.
Tennnse train rides love hear that bell 🔔
Lord, hes like a Winston Churchill jr!!
We were just talking just last week about doing something like this at our train museum. Keep 'em coming.
Which museum is yours? Does it have a channel to which I can subscribe?
Stellar video.
I’ll be at tvrm on May 19th I’m coming to ride the 4501
Awesome.
Thanks Drayton!
Oh boy!
We're looking forward to the first episode of this!
How come yall don’t have that much working railroad crossing on this line?
Most of the crossings on the East Chattanooga Belt Railway are protected by traffic lights. The train trips a circuit, making the traffic light change to stop traffic coming across the tracks. We have five crossings on this route with lights, and one that also has gates. There are a total of 27 crossings on the four and a half mile stretch of track.
@@TennesseeValleyRailroadMuseum u should add a crossing bell on those traffic lights crossing lol
@@TennesseeValleyRailroadMuseum are yall gonna add more crossing gates to non traffic lights crossings?
@@rodgodx345 That is up to the city of Chattanooga, not us.
I was cab riding that trip
Is there anyway that I can volunteer for day out with thomas. I need 8 hours of community service since I'm with the TN achieves program
630 is 120 years old? When was she built and by who?
1904, American Locomotives Works (ALCO) Richmond Works
I have a question where did you find southern railway 630
After riding the Missionary Ridge Local in june, I understand about being safe on a train as well. A conductor for the trip gave me permission to ride the vestibule of the rear coach as we departed Grand Junction, but the coach swayed about to the point that I had to get on my knees to steady myself and make sure I didn't drop my phone. It calmed down afterwards and I was able to stand up again, but held onto the handrails as a precaution, so that I could continue filming. I rode in the middle coach (no.1000 btw) on the way back. Thank you for posting this. And if you like to see my video, I've recently posted it on my channel. Please check it out and let me know what you think.
Saw bunch trucks suv going fast trying see train last week
Thank y for this information herd tennse train in Lafayette area hearing seeing traseing train dont do it not safe
It’s interesting how that some people just don’t understand the concept or importance of safety
So true
It’s always important to put safety first, no matter what!
So true
610 looks like it’s finally time to start her 1472
So are you dodging the point of the video?
That is some important information right there.
So true
I love 4501
A Big Thank You to everyone at TVRM for all you do to keep trains running so we can all enjoy your excursions.
I have one of y’all’s railroad spike off the missionary ridge local branch line
What made you guys to give 630 her red cab roof back?
It was a nod to her history in the steam program, as well as an attempt to reflect heat on a hot summer day with a lighter color on the cab roof.
are you going to do it to the 4501 at some point? I seem to remember a picture being posted on Facebook of her with a red cab roof before the season started last year but when the season started she still had a black roof
@@Ian-qs3fz The photo of 4501 with a red roof was a photoshop job by one of our employees. He merely photoshopped 630's roof onto 4501. There are no plans at this time to paint the 01's roof red.
@@TennesseeValleyRailroadMuseum oh that’s a bummer I was looking forward to seeing that
630 return
Good to see her back
It’s about time she showed up again. 😂😂😂 Thank you.
Didn't hear that that train 🚂 while in rockspring ga area yesterday ?
This video is from 2019. We have not operated a train through Rock Spring since early 2020.
Will the 4501 be running August 19th
At this time, it is expected to be the 630
@@TennesseeValleyRailroadMuseum could that change
@@baileyjanssen8911 It is not expected to, as 630 is much more suited for the Missionary Ridge Local than 4501 is.
@@TennesseeValleyRailroadMuseum and since you just fixed the 630 your going to not let it go to waste
I hope 4501 does a special excursion soon!
Same thinking
4501 and 630 are doing a double header to Summerville again next week
There appear to be very few passengers on board. Why??
Most of the passengers were scattered amongst the three dining cars when this clip was filmed.
From chickamauga park girl
Nice done with this video
The beam of the headlight, the rain illuminated by it, the clang of the bell, the gentle giant slipping past the camera in the dark...the calm of the moment in contrast to the immense power of the locomotive, the lights' reflection off the tender and the coach...this is why I love live steam, and why it reminds me of my dad who loved steam locomotives...if only he could enjoy the ability TH-cam gives a railfan these days, to instantly call up video images on the screen of nearly limitless models and Roads...this is a classic...nice work.
Nice
In 1976, I believe was the year, I was working on the Southern RR combination gang (rail and surfacing). My dad, John R Smith, was the Supt. of Safety over the Kentucky and Tennessee divisions. The 4501 was doing an excursion run from Danville Kentucky to Chattanooga, I believe was the final destination. It was making it's stop in Somerset Kentucky. Of course, my dad had to be with the train the entire time. And because my dad was an officer with the Southern RR he asked me if I wanted to ride on the engine / coal car. I jumped at the chance. The put me on the coal car - cutting coal. What an incredible ride!!!! From Danville Kentucky to Somerset. When I arrived in Somerset I was so dirty and black from all the coal and soot. I will never forget that awesome and incredible experience. Every time I see the 4501, I am taken back to that time and my dad, whom I lost in 2006.
Will you guys ever do a charter like this again
That is unknown at the current time.
When was this and the other videos recorded?
All the footage of this freight train was recorded in March, 2018.
Thank you@@TennesseeValleyRailroadMuseum
