Professor Suneil Jain is a consultant in clinical oncology at Queens University, Belfast. He splits his time between prostate cancer research and treating patients with prostate cancer through advanced radiotherapy, or systemic therapies like chemotherapy.
Prof. Jain believes that his work alongside Sciensus has been of great benefit to patients because they can now access a large number of therapies and cancer treatments over the course of their illness. However, getting to hospital regularly can be difficult for those living in rural areas around Belfast, where Prof. Suneil is based.
So, when needed, Sciensus goes to patients’ homes instead. Feedback received by Prof. Jain shows that this is enormously beneficial to patients’ cancer journey. It’s a high-quality level of private cancer care; they don’t go to see the oncology team, the oncology team comes to them, and patients build a closer relationship with the nurse delivering their treatment.
Of course, if patients need to be seen in a hospital they are taken there, but their overall quality of life is good. With the side effects of prostate cancer treatment being less severe, receiving their care at home ensures that patients can continue living their lives as normal.
